I have recently shown my 7 y/o son the Shrek series and while watching the 4 movies through my husband and I realized that I am quoting the movies and singing the soundtrack CONSTANTLY. Shrek IS my childhood

The funniest part of them talking about this movie being a middle finger to Disney is that it was made by an animator who left Disney on not great terms, so it is a literal middle finger to Disney

Zach as someone with two theatre degrees I must disagree with you that Shrek the musical was not a bomb but actually ran for a year on Broadway and was filmed and released on Netflix and is widely regarded by the theatre community as one of the best modern musical theatre scores of our time - it was also nominated for 8 Tony Awards including Best Original Score, Best Actor for Brian D’Arcy James as Shrek and Best Actress for the legendary Sutton Foster as Fiona. It went on to have a West End (London) production as well as two national tours one of which just opened a few weeks ago. Ok stepping off my soap box!

EXCUSEEEEE ME the Shrek Musical was actually so good!! SUTTON FOSTER?! BRIAN DARCY JAMES?! CHRISTOPHER SIEBER?! The costumes/makeup may not have been the best but the show is actually so funny and the soundtrack i think it pretty good for the plot line they had to work with. i literally saw it 3 times and still have the soundtrack cd! 😂

I LOVE Shrek the Musical! It's so much fun, and Sutton Foster is incredible as Fiona.

Speaking of the "not the gum drops" scene, the Latin American dub is ELITE!!!! It has nothing to do with the original dialog, but it plays on a classic children's song and it is hilarious! Also Eugenio Derbez getting sued over the rights to a song and how he solved it is pretty funny.

I love these hosts but I think something that they seem to forget every time they review an animated film or film that was popular among kids in the early 00’s is that a lot of these “kids” movies are actually “family” movies. They’re meant to appeal to a wide audience so you’re going to have jokes that are funny for kids but you’re also going to have little comments that are just for adults to chuckle at. We didn’t have a huge library of content for us to choose from that’s tailored directly for kids. We just had the handful of movies that were suitable for all ages that came out in theaters throughout the year. I think that’s what makes movies like Shrek remain so popular today with the audience that grew up watching them. Watching this movie back now I’m laughing at jokes that completely flew over my head when I was 9.

It is a WIDELY accepted fact among theater people that Shrek the Musical (especially the music) goes WAY harder than you would expect-- it's not on Netflix anymore, but there are clips online that give you a much better idea of how good the show is than the pictures do. Loved the episode, as always!

Other than donkey, one of my most vivid memories was Farquaad running around on his knees pretending to be short just thumping around all over the place with his knee pads looking like he lost his shins in the war like Cotton Hill!

I used to cry as a baby when the movie would end. My aunt had to teach me about rewinding VHS’ so that i would understand why it couldn’t start over automatically.
