Ouch! Sounds painful. Try ducking next time.
They did a good job on the audio and video options. It has a lot of little quality of life things that so many other games forget about.
"31 Contestants we need to Whack (comma) Off, or otherwise Destroy." - Splat
Looks good so far, and a great story hook that you don't see all that often.
X-COM: Terror from the Deep is still the Undisputed emperor of the genre with a fully destructible environment, solid RPG mechanics, interesting Tech Tree and technological acquisition process, intricate elements of base design that later on translate into a tactical advantage or disadvantage and a Public Relation Management in the background to gain funding from various Nations. It didn't try to tell dumb jokes or dumb down elements to flatter a wider audience, it did what it came to do and did it well. It came out in June 1996, it is now May 2023 and no game actually got closer to its achievements and features.
Remember when NAG, PC Format and PC Gamer had their demo disks bundled with the magazine every month. Good times
I swear splattercatgaming has sold me on more idle games than anybody else. Game looks good tho.
Who loves you and whom do you love? Yeah, this is definitely inspired by The Running Man.
I didn't expect a Cillit Bang reference in...Well, any video game really haha.
Wow, this looks like it really melds the theme and mechanics really well. Looks great!
"Here is Subzero, now just plain zero." - Ben Richards.
@33:48: "So that leaves 31 other contestants that we need to whack off...or otherwise destroy." 🤣the phrasing was so funny!
I wish it was a requirement for all games to have demos. There are A LOT of games I never would’ve bought had I played a demo of it.

Nowadays it's possible to buy a game from an online store, play it for a hour or so and then return it before a certain time if you feel it's not for you.

This is reminiscent of Running Man, but it is also similar to Smash TV, so "Big Money, Big Prizes" and bang on.
Some fun facts about the running man. Stephen King wrote the novel it was loosely based on. Christopher Reeve was once attached to star in it. Reeve's version was going to be much closer to the novel
The Running Man in the film is very different from the one in the book. Also, I think there has been one indie Running Man-esque game that you had covered a few years back. I do not know the name of that game, however.

This is actually a cool idea, looks entertaining and I can imagine several sequels/seasons. Nice one.
Thanks for showcasing! ^^
I'm glad I clicked this video. I was needing something for my XCOM fix.
Damn, I gotta get a job at wallmart, they're giving out frag grenades???
Thank you, Splatter. This game is really interesting.
This looks super cool, I love the Running Man style theme, reminds me of classics like Smash TV and Speed Ball from the 90's. Mixed with XCom style tactical play... take my moneys Shoutout to Bobby Knuckles if you're watching this clip! good luck in your next fight.
He’s a cop whose arrested because he won’t blow up a riot of civilians if I remember right. Pretty good 80s flick.
The Running Man Film had at least 2 State Governors: Arno and Ventura. LOL
Interection, best Freudian slip ever lol.
Looks fantastic!
This looks really good narrative-wise. It also looks like a lot of fun.
Damn this game really got me hooked. Thanks mate
I can understand making the demo just be about the combat. While a lot of people like story-driven games, that isn't usually what pulls them in these days. Big explosions and colorful guns seems to be the main draw. A good story is just a bonus. That being said, some of my favorite games were my favorite because of the story, but I guess I'm technically an old-school gamer now...
Oh my lawd, how awesome is this? All my 90s vibes activated
Xcom moments for me are very different. Like a rocket launcher accidentally firing at 90degrees off target straight at someone. Or putting my veteran medic between a couple rookies in cover to calm them and they both panic and shoot her in the face.

This actually looks pretty awesome. I like the sponsorship system.
The sponsor name was very funny, nice detail.
As soon as you said, that drone hovering over your character was a camera for the "t.v. show" I instantly thought this game would've been 10x cooler if that was the player camera and you were playing like in a 2nd person perspective. And then on certain sections you'd go through the game with fixed camera perspectives. This would've been great for immersion.

I do appreciate a solid demo , spot on 👍
Getting Ruiner vibes here, dude we need a sequel!
The runningman is one of my fave movies of all time after seeing it for first time when i was like 12 lol
The movie Gamer (2009) might be better example for similarity, Running Man didn't really have guns in the field.
Nice Work Splatty, you're becoming like a *nice* TB's nephew ;)
Nice, i beat Miasmo. Will buy this game after I beat Midnight suns
What do you mean by the Walters? It's Warmart, so it must be owned by the Warters
Great video as always.
How on earth is this game not multiplayer? bewildering stuff
Going to have to get this one thanks Splat
This looks well cool and its my first time seeing the game
Me: Leaning in and tryin to hear what is happening and to catch one of those "funny one-liners" because volume is 100% in windows and speakers already but still can't hear properly. Splattercat suddenly says something - eardrum explodes and now deaf.
As someone who spent many hours playing SmashTV on the Super NES, this has definitely caught my interest.
I saw Running Man and clicked quicker than I could think about clicking! :D I still would love to see someone remake Smash TV, because I loved that in the arcades. I know this is not it, but I am glad someone is using the same Running Man premise.
Omg I love this
Damn this looks good
I too love X-Com style games. Both old school and new.
Reminds me of Shadowgun Legends on mobile. Same concept. U create a character and enter arenas. It's a looter shooter as well. Pretty solid mobile game honestly. You get more famous as you progress. The sponsors in the game pay you by the day/hour whatever the sponsor specifies. It's honestly this game here, only a mobile fps
I know the game is supposed to be over-the-top but I would think that the enemies don't want to be blown up either so they would hit the buttons for the explosives too.

Maybe mid-level employees from the show were told by their bosses to offer those other contestants free crack cocaine which made it that when those contestants used it they became high as all hell during the fight and therefore were not thinking logically during the fight. Myabe the other contestants were convicted criminals serving out life sentences for first degree murder that were told "we bribed the state to let you go if you win this game show, if you whack that red haired woman and that black haired man we'll get you pardoned but if you fail to whack them before the timer on the bombs run down you'll just be sent back to prison." Maybe the other contestants were going to be sent to the electrical chair for horrific crimes but instead were purchased by the evil corporation, lobotomized and were turned into mindless remote controlled drones instead. Maybe they were killers running free from the law who were told by the corporate executives "the game show takes place inside a city the corporation purchased that is no longer subject to the laws of the United States" and "if you whack those other 2 contestants before the bombs would naturally go off we'll give you each like 2 million dollars and a plane ride to a country with no extradition treaty with the United States government." These are just some possible explanations I came up with.
Definitely looks like my type of game. I will pick this up if my baseline Best Buy laptop can run it :D
The word variety does exist 🎉
Would love a open mode where you have a team of prisoners instead of volunteers and champions.
loved a demo on a floppy 1.44 never needed more
This game looks sick
Smash TV! Jesus it's been about 30 years. Smash TV had a similar running man premise. It was a unique dual stick arcade game where you run between screens Legend of Zelda style but the in between screens you would see all the cameras and film crew. It was really cool.
I tried this in beta. They had a different name then, but this is much better and catchier!

hell yeah
Looks good. The dystopian deathsport game show genre has been sadly underserved since Smash TV.
Really gives me SNES Super SmashTV vibes.
Homicidal All-Stars renamed itself? Neat.
Id totally buy this if we werent forced to play as Scarlett but instead could make our own characters. I really hate when games with cool concepts force you to play a character. Especially when the character is lame.
33:51 I hope for everyone's sake, you choose the latter! If not, then the fans that watch the show in that world are in for one hell of a nasty surprise! Unless of course, they like that sort of thing. 😮 LoL
1:20. “First impressions” is a bit of a misnomer. This is actually an “updated impressions’’ video. Splattercat featured the game 6 months ago when it was still called “Homicidal All Stars”. But given that it has been reinvented with a new name (and presumably new mechanics), I suppose that the decision to treat it as a completely new title, with no reference to its previous iteration, can be seen as a form of professional integrity. Or maybe Splat simply forgot that he played it before? Wouldn’t be surprised, with all the games that come through this channel.
ah so they renamed "homicidal all stars" to this. Makes sense. I didnt think there would be two running man themed RPGs this year.....

Kind of a shame that there is no real time combat, because the graphics do look nice.
Looking forward to this game after its been out for at least the first month. I never trust any game in its first month of release.
i'm wishlisting this just because the "slaver metal" graffiti on the wall hahahahahaha
Love the fact that the levels are hand-made. So many games opt for procedural-generated stuff these days and everything ends up looking almost the same, plain and generic. I don't think it's as simple to say that's for replayability because that assumes you'll even want to replay the game in the first place, and boring levels is one reason that could put you off doing that. Not that it never works and is some cases isn't even necessary, but procedural generation has been irking me for a while because it's way overused. So a big +1 for Showgunners here.
Never clicked so fast
Not my type of game but i hope it does well
Hey Splatter, did you actually think it said Walmart or are you just saying walmart because that was an obvious pun? To be fair, the first like 3 seconds I thought it said walmart and was like "Shit, they paid royalties to use walmarts name?" Haha
Running Man is based off the novel by Stephen King by the same name, it was a decent movie but the book was better.
Smash TV is always fun.
Oh. They literally repackaged Shadowrun: Boston...
I feel like this would be better as a fps, borderlands style. Idk
this looks alot like a 4x smash tv
