The devs' previous games, Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, and Desperados 3, are superb real-time tactics games. Highly recommend them.

Ty devs, I remember seeing the first trailer for this game and I was intrigued then. Now I have Splatt to try it out for me!

Skeleton pirate arm stabbing herself through the chest is a real grabber of a visual, so kudos to that.

I am also generally not a stealth game player but this looks absolutely fantastic. Definitely earned a place on my wishlist. Thank you for the review, Mr. Splat.

Totally agree about dishonoured, I don't mind morality systems in games up until they try to make the player feel bad for killing people who are trying to kill you.

I hope you can play as the monkey at some point, or some other piratical critter like a parrot or undead dog, cat, or rat. An animal character might fit through tight spaces, steal energy from enemies, or stun/confuse enemies. A cannon-guy/girl that blows up a large area, and lays down damaging terrain, but draws enemies from all over with the noise might be cool too.

The voice acting of that skeleton dood is great!

I always loved toys I could fit in my pocket and take every where with me. I think this has carried over into video games, because I love isometric games more than FPS or third person games. These miniature worlds are always far more interesting to me than full size ones. :D

The teleporting taco ghost would be a godsend in real life and sounds like a fantastic pitch for an indie title to promote a new restaurant chain.

23:30 the way I saw this stealth-kill puzzle play out was to kill the guard on the right while middle guard was talking to patrol guard, move closer and blink kill middle guard when patrol guard is done talking, then just walk up behind patrol guard normally and kill them.

I'm lookin' forward to this one!

Damn I'm jelly that you got to jump into this early, their previous games were great so I'd be shocked if this wasn't also great. So many good releases coming out in the 2nd half of this year with this, Remnant 2, Starfield and some others.

You know I mostly agree with what you're saying about the 100% clearing a map in stealth games, with one caveat: If there is an actually interesting reward for not killing people. The best example that comes to mind is Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, where every guard has their own voice lines and information to glean by interrogating them, usually with an amusing dialogue between them and Sam Fisher. I mean technically you could kill them after that interaction but choking them out was equally well done... if that doesn't strike you as too macabre.

People, if you like what you see, check Desperados 3 from the same dev. Basically the same game with different setting (and less bombastic, more grounded, but still fun)

I mean, you are pretty much demonstrating the issue with Stealth games, they have exactly one mode, "Peeling the Onion". You create a puzzle that involves X number of guards and the player determines the order and method in which they need to be dispatched, from outside in, to complete each mission. You can usually complete each mission without fully peeling the onion, but if you do so, you could be caught off-guard by a twist at the end, so better to be safe and eliminate each and every guard on the map, even if it extend the mission with an extra hour of shiv and toss in bush. It's why Phantom Doctrine wears thin after a half dozen hours, all the missions are so identical and why folks get so frustrated by games like Invisible Inc. that attempt to subvert this design by actively making it difficult to fully kill guard.

this is that rare occasion when "copy with a different coat of paint" is not a bad thing

The view cone, stealth, speed up and verticality are very similar to the commandos games. I love it. Keep an eye out for this game

the waiting game really sucks when you have to do it CONSTANTLY! I mean if you have an hour to play, why spend most of it watching NPC's walk back and forward. Glad this game takes the edge off.
