Should You Still Take the GMAT Even if it's "Optional?"

We're in an abnormal MBA application cycle due to the ongoing pandemic, and a number of business schools have made the GMAT "optional" this year to accommodate candidates who are having a hard time meeting that requirement. But should you go ahead and take it anyway? Who should take advantage of the waiver, and who should still submit a score to boost their profile?
To help answer this important question, I've invited admissions consultant Barbara Coward, founder of MBA 360 Admissions, to share some key considerations that will help you make the decision that's best for you.
If you're applying to a school that requires the GMAT or if you determine that you should still take the "optional" exam, let us help you get a great score. If you're going to take it you might as well dominate it, right?! Check out our comprehensive GMAT course options: www.dominatetestprep.com/stor...

Some schools like Fosters Washington also have test waiver (as per their website for admission requirements) but they mention about demonstrating some quantitative aptitude either through work ex (quant focused role), a CFA/CPA or similar finance certification, or by giving GMAT/GRE. Now, in this case, giving the GMAT/GRE will be far cheaper and easier than studying for CFA, and only option for people who didn’t work in a quant role. So you still need something …

Yes, you're exactly right. Poets & Quants just published a helpful article on how to boost your quant profile, and that's one of the points they made. Here it is if you want to check it out: poetsandquants.com/2024/05/14/how-to-improve-your-quant-profile

Is there a list anywhere of the top 20 global schools where the GMAT is currently optional? Thanks.

Almost all of the top schools are still requiring the GMAT. I think the most prominent school to have gone GMAT-optional is UVA Darden. Northwestern's Kellogg is offering waivers for students who can demonstrate a direct impact from COVID. Emory has gone optional for its evening and EMBA programs. I haven't seen an actual list like you're requesting, but Poets & Quants often posts an article when a new school goes test-optional, so you might check there.
