SHOULD I STOP THE SOLO OVERLAND EXPEDITION? |S2EP22|
I'm still on the hectic and dangerous road between the busy town of Mazabuka and the principal tourism center of Lake Kariba: Siavonga. It's time for a break. I feel it psychologically. The driving, staying alert constantly, and the sadness of loosing all my writings about the solo expedition preparation, Rafiki's (my Toyota Hilux) build, and all my emotions and thoughts about it. It's an accumulation of things and I feel that my body needs to re-calibrate. I have to if I want to keep enjoying the solo expedition across Africa. So, I'm having a short break of a week in the quiet and peaceful town of Siavonga, directly on the lake. A short break from overlanding. I quickly notice that Siavonga is not as peaceful as mentioned just now. The human-wildlife conflict is real here. The economic crisis push more and more people into fishing, and even though lake Kariba is a man-made lake, it actually hosts one of the largest population of hippos and Nile crocodiles. Fishermen literally risk their life every single day. Some need a bath, and I could notice one having a swim in probably the most dangerous lake in the world! Scary but people need to know about it. There is no time to pretend here in Zambia, everything's real, and especially the value of life itself. I get to meet so many locals, I spend time with them, I talk to them, and I try my best to write as much as possible. Because Africa is teaching me so much, way more than all these oriented facts you have to learn at school. Africa is definitely where I learnt the most so far. Because Africa is REAL.

I have not been to Lake Kariba in so long. As a small child it was a vacation spot we often went to. Always good to see it again from other travelers!🇿🇲

A few weeks ago you were in my mother's homeland Sinazeze and now you're in my fathers homeland Siavonga!! I'm glad you've enjoyed yourself there.❤
I read that is also not safe to swim along Lake Kariba's shallow shoreline due to the waterborne parasite bilharzia, and the high numbers of crocodiles and hippos. It's generally okay to swim further out in deeper water, so a quick dip from your houseboat is usually fine, amazing how they can make manmade lakes!

Why didn’t you buy the chicken??? The perfect road-trip companion! Charline & Rafiki & Chicken !!! C&R&C 🙋🏻♀️🛻🐓… My heart is broken because I did not see the adventures that you could have had with Chicken 😭😭😭 Really cool drone flight👌, but at the end I wondered how close to your face it was going?! 😳 It is still so sad you lost the writing, but it was so good that you took the break, and recognised you were healthy (at least you were at that point!) and Rafiki was enjoying himself in Africa. ☺️ I thought it was so funny that you were shouting instructions to the driver hauling the boat off the lake ! 😂 He waved back as if to say “Ok ok, crazy lady!” The sun shining through the palm trees with the dark grey sky behind looked beautiful. And the sunset was so beautiful but wow the people there have such a hard life eh. Wonderful video 👏👏👏
