If you're serious about ballistics and long-range shooting, you know about Bryan Litz's work. As the founder of Applied Ballistics, and the chief ballistician at Berger Bullets, he has made significant contributions to the field of modern ballistics. And that's what I wanted to talk with Bryan about: the last 10 years and the next 10 years of ballistic advancements. What a great conversation!

    Man, when i first started getting into long range Bryan Litz’s books were super vital to me. I had to read some pages several times to understand what some of the terms meant and to retain the information. Hes always been an insane wealth of knowledge to myself and the long range community. Good stuff Gavin.

    My Sig Sauer Sierra3 BDX 3.5-10x 42mm scope uses his software with the BDX app to give me a digital hold over that is spot on - getting a 0.17 MOA group at 200 yards with factory American Eagle 120gr made me a true believer in his software Another great interview - Thanks!

    Great interview with Bryan Litz 👍. I would love to see someone anyone start producing long sleek High BC match bullets in 130gr to 175gr weights for the mighty 270 Winchester so that barrel manufacturers can start making fast twist barrels to suit these long sleek bullets .

    Perfect remarks to end on. As technology continues to eliminate variables from the shooting equation it only makes the input from the shooter more of a deciding factor when determining the quality of the shot.

    Did you ever talk about the ballistic coefficient changing on doppler at different speeds? Example, a 100 grain Bullet traveling 3000 feet per second vs. 2000 feet per second?

    Love to fly Love to fly They implied it at around 13:20. Bryan refers to knowing with Doppler radar the actual drag rather than needing to approximate it using ballistic coefficient.

    Ask Bryan if a labradar readout for the first 100yd or so can be overlaid on his book value for a certain bullet.... to see how your gun/bullet combo is working vs the predicted value? Perhaps a sort of 'your custom'. WillyB

    Looking forward to the day when, no skill is needed. Just point and pull. Or a computer designates where and when to engage. Bullets are assigned a target and auto correct in route. Fully automated is the future of sport and war. Seriously, warfare and the technologies always trickle down to the end user...

    If the bullet will perform at 1000+, then there's a really good chance it'll perform well at 100-300. The stories of a bullet grouping 2in at 100 and magically still grouping at 2in at 1k are myths.

    @@jdlr3777 I'm only new to centerfire rifles, there seems to be quite a bit FOD information out there especially about accuracy and handloading, so the base shape of the projectile (BT, rebated, or flat base) has no effect on bullet stability as it exits the muzzle?

  • @billstevens5277

    @billstevens5277

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@LunaRendezvous Yes, it does. One of the shooting shows recently did a test with high speed cameras that showed the gas disruption of the bullet at the muzzle. Flat base was the least disrupted, so at short range under 500, those are best. Further than that the cleaner flying boattails are best.

  • @jdlr3777

    @@billstevens5277 I can't begin to tell you how many times I've had to physically disprove boat tail bullets not going to sleep until they're past 200 yards (gas disturbances). The only reason a boat-tail bullet would yaw coming out of the bore is either your crown is dicked up or the bullet wasn't square with the bore when it entered the rifling. If either of you wish for me to show you real world target evidence, then send me your email address. My intention is to hit the range come Saturday. I'll be more than happy to load some flat base bullets again to show y'all how little difference there is.

    So... is Bryan saying that he'll be traveling with a mobile Doppler Radar, and we can get a custom drag model for our rifle/ammo setup?! Where do we find the map/schedule, and how do I sign up?! Is it just following on Facebook? Gavin, thanks for your continued methodical approach to this endeavor! It is much appreciated!

    Scott - we are building the schedule now! We will share it on social media as well as on our website as soon as we have it finalized. We are working with PRS and ELR matches all over the US to make this happen for as many shooters as possible.
