Kestrel 5700 Elite w/ LiNK: Setting Up a Target and Wind Capture

Спорт

This instructional video demonstrates how to set up on a target with a Kestrel 5700 Elite meter and perform a wind capture. The Kestrel 5700 Elite has the capability to automatically calculate wind corrections by using compass heading values relative to the target and wind direction. It can also be calculated manually by the shooter.
The combination of the live wind capture on the Kestrel 5700 Elite w/ LiNK and Bluetooth connectivity to a paired device offers some exciting possibilities for the long range shooter. Stay tuned for future videos where this capability is demonstrated in detail.

    oly drawback is it only gives you the wind at your current location then you have to use mirage to determine if there is more then one cross wind further down range.

    Again thank you very much for your videos they are always very helpful. Have a question about the degrees, your direction to the shop we do manually as you show here. But what about the latitude if you go into the environment setting or something that says ”Lat... 34.8°” can you explain the difference? Does the other one and put automatically but we always choose direction of shot? Thank you very much

    Xolani Gubula The Kestrel doesn’t have an integrated tool to measure angle of fire. I use my LRF, ACI, or iPhone to measure it when needed, then input the angle to the Kestrel.

    If you go into the wind screen on the Kestrel, you'll see there are two wind zones (WS1 & WS2). Depending on the speeds you enter there (or the unit reads as gusts while doing a capture), the wind could be so light for the distance that it's splitting both ways. Spin drift is being accounted for, so if you're anywhere near 800 or more yards, you start getting an automatic .5 MOA or more right drift that has to be accounted for. If the wind isn't enough to offset that, you could get a left correction notice even if the wind is blowing from the right.

    Do you feel using this set up, compared to kestrel 4500 and ballistic program in my phone, is any more accurate? Does seem like it would capture the information a lot quicker making reading more current? Thanks in advance.

  • @PanhandlePrecision

    @PanhandlePrecision

    +Extinction X I don't know about more accurate, but it definitely takes a lot of user errors out of the equation, and yes, the wind capture can help with the wind calls. I used a combination of 4500AB, Whiz Wheel, BulletFlight, and range cards last year. I liked them all for different situations. I think that once I get trajectory validations done with the K5700, I'll probably be using it for the majority of my LR shooting. The ability to pair it to my phone via Bluetooth opens up some interesting possibilities.

    Kestrels do not have an inclinometer. You have to use an ACI/ADI, slope doper, or a device with an inclinometer. I use an ACI or my iPhone. I would really like to see Kestrel come up with something for this built into the meter!
