Shnootz - Reaction Video (ABBA - Gammal Fabodpsalm + Voulez-Vous [Live at Wembley])

What's shaking, people! I'm back with another ABBA reaction, though as you can see, we're taking a slight detour over to their 2014 release Live at Wembley (recorded in 1979). So join me as we listen to an atmospheric synth-based opener and the always-fantastic "Voulez-Vous" in tandem. Cheers, and big shout-out to Michaela for sharing this release with me!
Also I set up a Patreon a little while back, so anyone interested in supporting what we do on this channel through donation (and getting a little bonus/behind-the-scenes content) can go here. / shnootz
And those who'd like to support the channel with a one-time donation can do so via PayPal, at billshattner@yahoo.com. Thanks!

The openier.... that atmospheric instrumental is magisterial and so evocative.I was about to attent their '79 tour but had to travel miles out of border and after having a passport.Unfortunately i was still in my pre-teens and my parents didn't allow me to travel and join my elder cousins to the concert.I so bitterly cried that night. They saw them in Paris. They told me that they got so overwhelmed by the time the intro started they almost swooned.

Does Your Mother Know/Hole In Your Soul is the highlight of the Live At Wembley for me. The video is phenomenal.

What a lovely surprise this morning, dear Matt. It seems that we will have more immersion in ABBA, now with the live album Congratulations and thanks at the same time for continuing in our ABBA Days You helped me with this new album, because now I know where to best place "I'm still alive" in my statistics hahahaha It will be another column in my excel spreadsheet. As you say, the live album was just released in 2014, about the 1979 concerts. You cited the date of November 10 (the day before my 22nd birthday) That year ABBA was on the charts with their album "Voulez Vous", and for the concert they premiered two songs. "The way all friends do" (which you already did and is on the album "Super Trouper") and "Gimme gimme gimme" (a man after midnight), which at the time of the concert was the single and reached #3 in the UK (remember that in this context Börn and Agnetha were already separated as a couple since the end of the previous year, but they interacted naturally and professionally, ABBA did not resent this) Comparing live tracks to studio tracks may reveal some differences. It is very difficult to match live the level of perfection that ABBA has in the studio, even with twice as many musicians and backup singers to try to sustain the effect of engineer Michel Tretow's "Wall of sound" technique. Even so, ABBA achieves it in several songs, and in others it even surpasses it. Here the introduction is beautiful, ABBA is faithful to its Nordic traditions, which it manifests not only in the music but in its costumes (the colors that Agnetha and Frida wore tried to represent the image of frozen Sweden) On stage I think they start in the dark, and then the lighting shows Agnetha and Frida in the center in a fixed pose and with some capes, while the instrumental part lasts (hence the second applause from the audience), until Voulez Vous begins and they start to dance "Voulez Vous", like other tracks, sounds a little faster (there will be some that sound a little slower) but retains the essence and rhythm In the official video of ABBA in Concert (also like in other songs) the first verse is missing Unfortunately there is no album for the 1977 concerts in Europe and Australia, but some complete songs and others in sections are included in the film "ABBA The Movie" It has been a great start, we will have several weeks until the end of the year with ABBA live I leave you a big greeting from Buenos Aires, Argentina South America

Gammal fäbodpsalm = Old Chalet Psalm, i.e. a psalm that were played and sung at a chalet (an "out place" where Swedes kept their animals grazing over summer, many hours walk from their homestead).

I'm glad you enjoy it! In the e-mail i sent to you I tried to give you at least some information but my best guess one the first song was also that it is a folk song. I wonder how many brits almost fainted in their chairs when you spilled the earl grey.

I've only heard that "Take ME Out To The Ball Game" a few times.(a billion times) The concert video (better than just the music alone) play's it at the end, and you see these pink letters and fish eye effect with Agnethat's very famous dairy-air, front and center LOL But that song gives me goos flesh all over and makeing me cry, every single time. Thank you for putting it up!!! And yea, that transitoin is like a volcano! 👍💅🙏

What a great combination & transition. Firstly a beautiful mix of Swedish/Scandanavian folk music with an ABBA 'influence'😉. Then the always a banger Voulez-Vous taken up a notch live🎉. I have noticed that when ABBA went live with certain 'dancier' tunes, they uped the tempo even more which in my mind just makes them even better masters of their craft. When most others who do live shows tend to slow down some of their songs (no doubt so the singer/s dont lose their way/ breath/can keep their notes😉), ABBA up the tempo & still sound controlled strong & fantastic. Yes I know they had back up singers to compliment Anni-Frid & Agnetha when they went live..but thats how they achieved the recording studio layering of the 2 girls voices when on stage live. In my opinion😋 👍❤

Gammal fäbodspalm has often been played during funeral cermonies in churches in Sweden. I love it, but it is even better and more beautiful when played on real church organs.

This is Benny Andersson playing tribute to the Swedish folk tradition, out of which they very much were born. He also in a subtle way pass you the secret key to their music, and most Swedish music. Just listen to the piano part of a relatively new song, work shit out, by dirty loops. The sentiment is still there.

  • @petterhansson7312

i.e. this is the traditional Swedish music that particularly Benny but also the others grew up with.

The was another official live release. ABBA Live released in 1986. A mixture of live tracks from 1977/79/81. All mixed together and heavily overdubbed with drum machines and trying to make it sound like it all came from the same show. It was deleted from the official ABBA catalogue after a 1997 reissue and hasn’t seen the light of day since. Everyone from fans to ABBA themselves seem a little ashamed of it.

The live version of Money, Money, Money is great on that album. There's a bit of "fun" between Benny and Frida in the beginning that could also be interpreted as arguing on stage. 😁

There's been an change in the tempo to give the feeling of more energy. The intro instrumental didn't really add anything at least from an aural perspective. Perhaps it was a visual thing. The other obvious thing missing from the live versions are some of the higher harmonies are dropped unless taken by the backing singers which they mostly don't do. After all, you cant expect two singers to come up with third and fourth harmonies at the same time! The live tracks from the OZ concerts were the best, but even then some had to be tweaked in the studio because of poor recording quality. It's why the studio versions are always the best. I tend not to listen to live versions as they are not really representative of the multi-layered material.

Remarkably, this live album presents the songs "exactly as they where", i.e. without having the songs overdubbed in the studio like for the 1986's Abba Live
