Shnootz - Reaction Video (ABBA - If It Wasn't for the Nights [Live at Wembley])

What's up, people! I'm back with another ABBA reaction from their Live at Wembley release (from '79, but released in 2014), though I am going to react to that long medley for the next ABBA reaction. In any case, join me as we listen to a fun live performance of the grooving disco track "If It Wasn't for the Nights" from Voulez-Vous. Cheers!
Also I set up a Patreon a little while back, so anyone interested in supporting what we do on this channel through donation (and getting a little bonus/behind-the-scenes content) can go here. / shnootz
And those who'd like to support the channel with a one-time donation can do so via PayPal, at billshattner@yahoo.com. Thanks!

To me...ABBA LIVE in 1979 still sound better than many who attempt 'live' performances today 👍👍❤

The backing choir is Birgitta Wollgård, Liza Öhman, and Tomas Ledin. This is one of my absolute favorite tracks from the live album; there is a raw, almost electric urgency to Agnetha and Frida's vocals as they struggle to warm up... it's intense.

I actually managed to get tickets in the UK in 1977 (The Royal Albert Hall) & 1979 (Twice at Wembley). I must admit, I preferred the '77 concert (I was aged 14, many many MANY miles away from home and alone but I did it - my parents went WILD), but... that's not to say I am against the 79 concerts... I did miss Mamma Mia at the '79 gigs though. I have no idea why such a huge hit was missed but at the time they did have an album to promote too (Voulez Vous) and a new single (Gimme Gimme Gimme) so... Exceptions must be made somewhere. I mean they couldn't be expected to sing everything with such a catalogue. Live, they are just electric. The energy from the stage can be felt no matter where you are in any arena and no matter the tempo of any song. They gave their all on stage and for that I was so grateful. Memories I will take to my grave. PS, I like Abba a lot but they aren't the only ones, my ranges go from classical to rock and everything in-between. Depends on my mood of the time. THANK YOU sir for your reviews, I think you got them all LOL. I have many to go through and I will get there. So enjoyable. Thank you again - Hugs xxx

Abba agreed to this live album being released as long as there was no post production enhancement. Benny's son Ludwig listened to a number of recordings of that week they were at Wembley and chose this performance.

More ABBA related material: "Another You, Another Me" (Gemini), "Funky Beat" (Svenne & Lotta), both composed by Andersson/Ulvaeus

For me live is supposed to sound live. I don’t expect the perfectness of studio recordings. I expect them to catch their breath, to be wonderful on one tone and miss out another tone. Also love it when they sing something a bit different from the studio version.

Hey, Eduardo! I was happy to see your comment because I'm excited to tell you: I've just begun experimenting with video-reactions! I'm still tinkering with things, and right now, only two videos are up on my Patreon, but sometime in the near future, I'll begin doing video-reactions for ABBA too, and they will eventually be here on KZread too (I may post them a few days earlier on Patreon). Cheers, keen to hear what you have to say when we cross that bridge!

@@mattsnider2667 Dear Matt Thank you very much for the kindness of sharing this with me, it makes me very happy because when I read you I feel yours. It is undoubtedly a big step to take, I like the way you put it, crossing a bridge to a new destination, but the path continues to enrich us as we advance I will be very attentive to this starting point, and I already have the first suggestion for ABBA videos (hahaha): victory at Eurovision 1974 with "Waterloo" although it could also be the first single and the first television appearance: "People need love" (1972) I always point to historical and founding data I couldn't write to you before, because these days I was very busy moving from my place of residence. always within Buenos Aires, but from the Federal District returning to a neighboring city, San Martin, in what is called Greater Buenos Aires here. I had to do it due to the very serious political and social economic crisis of our country, with a very high inflation announced today of 12.7% monthly and 138% annualized, (I write these numbers and I imagine that you cannot believe it or even imagine it) and on the eve of momentous presidential elections in the next 10 days Even so, I am in very good spirits and health, and music helps. GOD help us and I hope that people elect future authorities better

Ludvig Andersson listened to each night of the Wembley performances to get the best one for release. Apparently whilst 10th November is not technically the best, it had the best overall atmosphere. Which does make one wonder how much more lacking in atmosphere the other nights were!

A mixed comment haha 1) I owed you my own opinion on the live version And it sounds very good, almost at the same level as the studio recording. There are some short videos with small footage from the ABBA concert in Japan 1980, which has the same setlist as this album 2) I know it's a little late, and you'll already have your ABBA reaction plan, but since the next one is "As good as new" and you've already seen the presentation, why don't you do it now and close the initial block of three songs of the album "Voulez Vous"? 3) and this is a very special reason This weekend in the statistics, "Ring Ring" now reached Second Place in your most viewed videos on the entire channel Let's not fantasize about it reaching the first, because it almost triples it in views and it will take more than a year. But it is fantastic that in just nine months ABBA has positioned itself like this on your channel: #2 Ring Ring #5 Lay all your love on me #7 The winner takes it all #10 Don't shut me down I wish you a great new week my best regards from Buenos Aires, Argentina South America

Cheers, Eduardo! I've been watching Ring Ring waiting for that to happen. :) Also the next ABBA reaction should be in tomorrow's batch. I've been lagging on it a little because it's so long (23 minutes!), but I think I should have time tonight.

Also if there weren't A&F voices mixed to background, just 'ordinary' backing choir, You can instant reccognize it. Nobody ordinary singer can't match their bright voices. That's why some covers sounds rather awfull. 🤣

As for the 20 minute ABBA Undeleted, since it’s basically many songs edited together, with a few interludes from the studio, I’d recommend pausing the recording now and then to talk about what you just heard. It would be way too much otherwise, imo.

I have to respectfully disagree. I have urged Matt to have at it in one go. The almost overwhelming nature of the amount of release-worthy material that the group abandoned because it didn't meet one or more members' standards is part of the experience of that track!

I agree. I never liked the Wembley live album much. To me there’s something missing sound/production/recording wise. The live recordings from the 77 Australian tour seems to be so much better.
