I don’t think it can purely based on it’s name. Now if it was a one off Japanese word like Yakuza(which in itself is a pretty well known term in English anyway) or Sekiro(even though it has Shadows Die Twice to help it), then possibly. But history has not been kind to games with mostly Japanese in their title like Okami, can’t imagine how much harder it is with a title like Shin Megami Tensei which has 6 syllables. If Yakuza had retained it’s Japanese name, Ryu ga Gotoku, I doubt it would sell half as much as it did. Taking purely in Western territories btw. Persona has the the advantage of it already being an English word and Pokémon, while technically a a shortened term, is so much easier to remember.

This and SMT V are the only announcements I hear people saying they care for.

@@nabi7701 I agree, but buffs are ESPECIALLY important in the mainline SMT series, the final boss of this game is literally impossible to beat unless you either grind to max level (which isn't recommended), or use buffs and debuffs.

Eh, I still say Matador is worse, on account of being plonked so early in the game. You have a very small pool of demons to recruit and fuse from, you don't have access to registering demons yet, making fusion much more risky, your grinding abilities are extremely limited due to everything giving peanuts in EXP and money to heal with, and he's leagues above anything else you've fought in the game up to that point.

Don't stop at this. Digital Devil Saga deserves the same treatment too IMO!

It looks to be the Maniax Chronicles version that featured Raidou Kuzunoha. It was a 3rd version of Nocturne originally released only in Japan. In terms of differences, the big one is Dante being replaced with Raidou. They both are basically the same, gameplay wise, but ally Raidou does have Pierce, whilst Dante didn't. Yes, this small skill difference IS notable.

@@zachh2864 Yep it was in the base game in 2003 when Devil May Cry wasn't a millionaire selling franchise that overshadow completely the Shin Megami Tensei franchise. If you think Capcom was gonna be cheap with their Dante it was definitely not gonna happen. Atlus probably had to use some big money to get him that couldn't be payed by the base game price

The only thing I’m disliking in this thread is the fact that so many people don’t know about Raidou when he’s one of the coolest protagonist in the megaten franchise

@river. I don't see why would you play only the 3ds version when you can have a taste of both. It is about the experience more than anything else. Also Citra requires certain specs that not everybody outside the US can afford. It is cheaper to just buy the actual 3ds instead.

@@avioletmoon9482 If one is insistent on not using buffs or debuffs on Matador, do the following 1. Be overleveled. Level 22 should suffice 2. Make sure your party and yourself null Force 3. Get tons of Dekaja stones to cancel Red Capote. Matador will use it again on his turn when you do this, which is a wasted turn if you have enough Dekaja stones

Ok, this is impossible. I believe maybe Shin Megami Tensei 5 was probably worked to the bone for the trailer to rise now of all times. I believe that maybe eventually news on MegaTen would rise eventually. But Smash Bros and Demi-fiend? Pretty farfetched and unlikely. Sorry to break your dreams.

Tips: Buffs and Debuffs will save your life in Nocturne

I've been gaming for 20 years and turn based jrpgs are my favourite genre. This is probably the best jrpg ever made. A tight battle system coupled with a dark and interesting story, plus capturing, raising and fusing demons is addicting. If you want a brutally hard and rewarding jrpg this is your game.

Huh...I wonder if this means that there's a chance of getting HD re-releases of the 'Digital Devil' or "Devil Summoner" Series?

As a Persona fan, I am so happy I'll finally get the chance to play this game for the first time. Buying a Nintendo Switch this year turned out to be a great decision.

I hope you like it, man. I got into it because of Persona too and ended up liking SMT just as much as Persona.

0:58 Ah yes, the moment where the game goes "Okay, you've been taught how to play, now do it perfectly with no training wheels. It's going to get *MUCH* harder from here on out." By the end, you will know why SMT fans wince when someone says the phrase: "I challenge you to a duel."

Nocturne still is the high standard for non medieval setting JRPGs. Glad devs are acknowledging it.

Definitely gonna pick this up as well as smt 5 when it comes out! I’m one of the people that started with the Persona series, but I really wanna play the smt games. They look soooo good

Devil Survivor definitely blends the social aspect of Persona with the apocalyptic scenario usually found in mainline SMT + strategic rpg which hasn't been in megaten since like the 90s. Many people likes to recommend that spin-off as the perfect game to branch out from Persona
