All SMT games BLEED atmosphere. The series draws you in with mystery & intrigue, and then pulls no punches with its story as you choose which morally grey ideology to side with and which do you sacrifice.

Loving the voices they chose so far. They really fit.

@@VonFirflirch I'd say look for gameplay and reviews, since IMO this one is a so-so remaster of a stellar JRPG from 18 years ago, so some gameplay elements might feel dated. Plus the battle OST in this one are sadly still compressed (thankfully other tracks didn't suffer, like this one in the trailer). Even so, the game's story, atmosphere, philosophy, and OST definitely holds up and still among the most unique the genre has to offer. If you have a 3DS (or an emulator), I advise starting with SMT IV instead since it's a more streamlined experience and serve as a newcomer's SMT.

@@w21aaaaa I've beaten IV so I am very intrigued by this one, yeah. I'm just a bit scared, going from a later 2D game to a 3D prequel, like... I'm assuming battles aren't nearly as fast-paced, among other things. By the way, how's death in this game? Can you skip the game over cutscene, or is it like IV where I'm better off rebooting the game so I can reload my save within a reasonable amount of time?

@@VonFirflirch "Death" in Nocturne is pretty brutal. Unlike in IV, when you die in battle it's game over (even when you have other party members still alive). No "save-anywhere" like in IV too, instead you save in terminals (a-la Persona). The remaster adds a "suspend save" feature, but it's more like Dark Souls where you cannot reload and have to live with the consequences of your actions. You can only escape said fate by reloading a manual save.

Hope you enjoy it, just don't expect a story driven experience or to save the world with the power of friendship at the end you should be set Mainline SMT games are much more player-choice and gameplay focused than Persona. Also, I know it can be tough to get to it, but give Persona 2 a shot! Its worth it imo

That's probably one of the worst parts of nocturne imo, your first time around there's no reason not to do true demon. You're just missing out on content if you don't do it.

I would rather buy this game while I can because the smt titles are expensive and hard to find around the time the switch no longer gets support... all the smt titles for the 3ds are already starting to peak above msrp with smt4 being $100 in most places online

Probably not. The fmv cutscenes are still the ps2 versions while all other cutscenes are in the unity version.

Yes! While SMT1 and 2 are somehow linked together, both 3 and 4 stand by themselves pretty well! If I recall correctly, there’s some callbacks to older games, but they’re purely fanservice and do not impact the lore. But if you’ve enjoyed Persona, those games are very different, so don’t go into them expecting Persona 1.0

You can play any smt game without any worries unless it's like a direct sequel like smt 4: Apocalypse. Though nocturne is considered to be like super hard so you might have some trouble early on

@@rifasclub yeah even though there is an easy mode, it's not really gonna change the design of the dungeons that look like goddamn confusing labyrinths. Especially that one dungeon that leads to Lucifer if you are going for the True Demon Ending. It will still be hard lol.

Exactly. And I will do the same when SMT V comes out. Screw the demons and the angels. Neutral endings are the hardest to get through imo. I mean just look at the amount of stuff you needed to keep in check in SMT IV to get neutral.

You heard about alignments? Law/neutral/chaos? Well smt does that. And unfortunately you have to choose one of them that feels right to you rather then the persona route deal of good/bad end. Do you believe in law and upholding peace, doing good for the sake of the many, even if that peaceful route means having to sacrifice freewill? Do you believe in the potential of chaos that can bring people freedom and ability to do as you see fit, even if that route means the weak are considered disposable? The mainline series doesn't beat around the bush when it comes to choices. You follow what you feel is right and accept the potential consequences with whatever side you decide to pick.

I hope they a had remastered for my favorite SMT title Digital Devil Saga and release them both together. I’m so excited to be playing this game again.

This game uses reasons, not the usual alignment system although basically there's three reasons of law (the ones shown in this trailer) and then two chaos endings (one kinda sucky and one with an additional boss known as True Demon) and a Neutral route with the freedom ending.

The general consensus is that Chiaki is Chaos, Hikawa is Law, and Isamu is Neutral. However you can also choose to side with none of them and embrace either your Human side, Demon side, or True Demon side.

i am more concerned about the "Dark souls of rpgs" reviews made by people who can't get past the start of the game, also let alone DS is an rpg already.

is this a port or a true remaster? I've been seeing how the cut scenes and audio are just ripped directly from the og version and not even full screen or HD. I've never played the OG games and want to buy this but I'm hesitant to pay the full price right now if it's just the same port of the original games. I may just wait a while for the price to drop during the holidays.

I mean imo it does look better, and does have a few qol improvements such as being able to select skills (its random in the ps2 version) and being able to suspend your save at any time (you have to find a terminal to save in the original) and voice acting but the original version is still really good and is much much cheaper of course. and yeah the price could drop pretty soon depending on how it sells. it's up to you

I do not understand musubi. Isn't musubi, the concept, about the connections between all things? Like threads in a tapestry, weaving around each other and splitting apart, and everything is connected? How does that fit into the reason of isolation?

From my understanding, Musubi is a very isolationist Reason. I think it's implied that its followers essentially become the Demiurge of their own personal world. Idk. It's the least fleshed out Reason and I really wish Nocturne wasn't as minimalist as it was so these and other details could actually be explained.

@@JustAnotherPrimalAspid "hmm yes thing will be awful since it NOT CARBON COPY of previous remake formula" idk man Gen 4 with gen 8 graphics would be complete jank given how trash its map design was. Redesigning Sinnoh to not be Sinnoh doesn't fix the problem either so we should at least be glad that they're not shoving unnecessary stuff into the game and keeping all that crud in Legends Arceus, which is what will actually be trash. Generally speaking BDSP will most likely be decent given how it's being worked on by people that helped with the Yakuza, Dragon Quest and Metal Gear Rising series.

@@JustAnotherPrimalAspid Fair point but I still like the updated map graphics for the game world compared to the original game's developer art type stuff. To me seeing the world in more clarity while still retaining the original overworld design is as fine as modern Pokemon is gonna get imo. It ain't gonna get any better than this for the series and I'm sorta just fine with settling for BDSP since Pokemon's gameplay and stories will never be improving from here on out. Also Megaten exists so yeah Pokemon ain't ever topping that.
