@@brettm4858 I like it a lot Brett. Very smooth retrieve and also very light not quite as nice as my Daiwa Certate 1003's but then it's half the price. Make sure you shop around. I think I found the 2500 for under $300 and I also bought the 1000 which is also a great reel. Paid around $285 for that one. BCF and Anaconda will match any Australian competitors prices. Good luck in Tas.

I have a Vanford 4000 and a Stradic 2500 FL. Love em both. Not sure if the extra $100 fore the Van is worth it, although they seem to be getting closer in price. Since the Stradic spool is heavier, it seems smoother, in that the extra weight helps maintain the balance during retrieve. These two reels are close in total weight.

I have the Vanford 5000 and love it.

Great video - I just received a Vanford and am impressed by the smoothness and weight for sure. My handle feels like there is too much play and after inspecting the long screw in the handle which connects to the reel body seems to be slightly loose and I can wiggle it. This then makes the whole handle feel like there is some play in it when connected to the reel. Does your reel have a similarly loose screw or if my handle perhaps defective? Thanks

Worth noting that carbon drag is only in the 3000 and above I believe. Smaller sizes have felt drag

Looking at getting the the vanford or stradic 3000 for fluke, black fish and salmon which do you recommend

Love my Stradic FG reels. I also bought (4) Stradic Ci4’s when I heard they were discontinuing the model. The FG model are excellent reels even today. Care and maintain them and they will last a long time…even with heavy usage like I’ve put them through! Only had problems with two…one was my fault when I broke the handle; and, the second I had to replace bearings. Only two problems out of the eight Stradic FG reels I own! Well worth the money I paid for them when they originally came on the market!

Try an fl once. If you love the fg you will really love the FL with long stroke spool.

Very nice review! I have a boatload of Ci4s but all in 2500 and larger series. I've been wanting a Vanford 1000 and or 2000 (since they have the same body, just slightly bigger spool on 2000) and I've been wanting to put my Gomexus double grip handle from one of the 2500s on the new Vanford (either the 1000 or 2000, haven't made up my mind). The Gomexus double handle was made for the Ci4s so I'm hoping the Vanford has a compatible thread pattern for interchangeability. All that said, have you tried actually screwing the handle off one of your Ci4s into the Vanford to see if they interchange and are compatible? If not, I understand as a lot of folks don't worry about changing out handles. I guess I'm one of the goofy ones who likes to try different parts. Also helps to know in case one breaks. Anyways, let me know if you do try to interchange and if it works on both reels and again, very nice review!!

Yes, Daiwa has screw in handles starting with Exceler Lt $79 level reels. Always bothered me that Shimano didn't, even on $200+ reels.

I absolutely love my Vanford. It's set up on a Zodias 7' light for ultra finesse dropshotting and handled big smallies perfectly. I want to throw it on something else but I'm not sure yet. Thinking I'll just buy a 2000 on a 6'9" med for fun fishing.

Great review Ladybass; Thanks for your input. I purchased the Vanford 2000, 2500 and 3000 sizes and really love the smoothness, effortless casting and lightweight however with the long stroke spool design it makes flipping a cast off feel awkward next to my older Shimano's. Did you or anyone else notice this discomfort. Would appreciate opinions.

To be honest with you I have not noticed, it may be primarily because im using the 1000 size a lot right now though. I do have a twinpower that also have a long stroke spool though and i have not noticed any discomfort, but it may just be because im used to it!

@@LadyBass I don't notice it as much with my Stradic FL1000 or Vanford 2000 because they're smaller reels but with the Stradic FL2500, Vanford 2500 and Vanford 3000 I did. Like you said, I guess it just takes some getting used to. Thanks for your input, much appreciated.

What size braid are you using in your vanford 1000 ?

I had bad experience with the Vanford 4000. The drag don’t hold, on two of them, and it noisy

Bought my first Vanford. It is a 3000 series and so far is pretty amazing. Also a Stradic junkie and have one CI4 in 1000 size and 5 Stradics in 1000 and 2500 and this reel is just as good if not better. Great review Isa!

I have it in the 5000 size for Stripers & Halibut inshore. So far so good!

Nice review! Hope you can find one in the size you want. They are getting scarce! Can’t wait to your bass season opens!

They need 2 times service a year if going with any Shimano reel. Thier Moto is charge more give less. Ci4 hands down better reel.

They are easier to maintain tho compared to Daiwa reels

cross carbon drag does not come with the 1000 and 3000 sizes its on the bigger ones

That’s a good thing on the 1000, with such low drag pressure the carbon gets kinda jumpy

Does it have carbon fibre drag washers?

I had thought this was more of a replacement for the stradic CI4+/FL, for its waterproofness

The FL is actually a new model and the Vanford does replace the Stradic ci4, the Vanford is also a ci4 reel, think they just wanted to give the ci4 its own line of reels instead of calling it a Stradic

I think the Vanford 2500 is one of the best reels you can buy for the money, although I do prefer the 3000 sizes for a Stradic or Vanford. That being said, the 3000 Vanford now uses carbon drag washers that are absolutely horrible! The 2500 still uses felt which is far superior! I swapped my carbon washers out for felt when I got it and it has been a stellar reel ever since!

This is like everything today. You pay More and get Less. Shimano is going down hill and fast. I own and used both reels. Ci4 is better for the money 🤑hands down.

100 percent agreed. I only like vintage reels. I got a shimano IX spinning reel that costs 12 bucks. 15 years later and it still works. The ix reels have been around for 31 years. I won't buy new reels anymore. They keep cutting corners and raising the price.

Shimano doesn't make reels in China dumbass, they only have reel factories in Japan and Malaysia.

My personal opinion is the Vanford A piece of 💩. I know of 4 people the reel seized after 3 mo. You pay that price and the thing dumps in a few months. Look it up lots of problems. Don't buy it 💩
