    Thanks! I’m a big fan of those reels. I’m going to add one more 3000 before winter steelhead season, so I’ll have one on both E6X’s. They are so light! Trims more than 3 ounces from a standard Shimano 3000. 👍🏻

    Just bought a vanford 1000 for my crappie rig. First cast I ended up snagging a 5 pound large mouth some how and I only had 4 lb mono on the reel. The drag was so smooth that I was able to get the fish in without ever feeling like I was in danger of breaking off. I was really impressed with this little reel though.

    @@Ptro1 I put it on a G.Loomis Trout Series Ultralight TSR801-2, they are hard to find right now, but I would also highly recommend the G.Loomis GL2 Trout Jig Series. I have the 782-2 for trout fishing, a little cheaper than the trout series. It’s a 6’6”, Light/Fast action, rated 4-8# line. They have different lengths, you might want a longer rod for crappie. I use the same rod for crappie in Oregon, if you dig way back on my page, I fish that rod for Crappie.

    Great review my friend! Top notch! I have a Stradic 1000 FJ. It's around 4 years old. I've been looking into reels lately. This was very informative and interesting. Looks like I might be stepping into a Van!! Looks like a great reel for not a ton more than a stradic. I use St. Croix rods mostly (premier series) nothing top of the line. But I'm interested in trying a G Loomis out. Most of my my rods are 6'6" or 7'. Could you recommend a smaller G Loomis rod, mostly for portability reasons. I fish for gills, perch and crappies most of the time. Mid range price point...again, great review! Thank for any advice you can send my way!

    Thanks for the feedback! I have several models of Stradic as well, great reels, but hard to believe the Vanford is 2/3 of the weight in most cases. As far as rod suggestions in the G.Loomis line, I highly recommend the GL2 Trout Jig Series. You can see me using my 782-2S TJR in most of my trout, shad and crappie videos. Here’s the link to G.Loomis’ GL2 page. www.gloomis.com/products/gl2-trout-jig My very first G.Loomis rod was an old GL2 6’6” trout rod, I still have it. If you watch our latest video, “East Lake Trout and Kokanee fishing”, my wife and I are fishing with these 2 rods, the old and the new. It’s very versatile, from small panfish to Shad, which are hard fighters. Definitely check it out, it’s $250 MSRP, but well worth it.

    Just got my first vanford 1000. I own nothing but daiwa spinning reels. I have 4 fuego 1000 size reels. My only complaint with the vanford is that the bail wire feels super thin but I guess that the price you pay for how light it is. Compared with daiwa reels in the LT series they are a lot more beefier. Everything else about the vanford is on point. I watched another review video saying that the line roller bearings tend to go out after a year? Maybe that’s with daily use. I only use my trout gear around 2 to three times a month during trout season. Have you had this same problem?

  • @RAGEFISHING

    @RAGEFISHING

    2 жыл бұрын

    Congrats on the new Vanford, you’ll like it. Yes the bail wires are thin, but that’s the same on all Shimano reels, not just the Vanford. Sounds like you’re just used to seeing the thicker wire on other reels. I probably own 30 Shimano spinning reels from Siennas to Vanfords and have never had one break or bend. I’m assuming you’ll take care of it anyway for $230 bucks. And as far as the bearings, I have had any issues with any of my Vanfords. I’m up to 3 now, 2 3000’s and my 1000. My first 3000 is still going strong, you can see it in action on my latest steelhead video. 🎣

    I do not, I try to stop the blade occasionally which in theory causes the blade to spin the opposite direction. I want a direct connection to the lure, plus a swivel makes the profile longer. For Steelhead, I build a barrel swivel into the eye of my spinners. Swivels do help, but you will still get line twist.

    If roll was meant for ‘rod’, you’re on the top end of what I’d consider a trout rod. Most are 2-6# or 4-8#. My favorite trout rod is the Loomis 782-2S GL2.

    @danibadalov6121 if you’re running floats for steelhead and salmon I would recommend a 10 1/2’ medium heavy or heavy spinning rod with a Vanford 4000. You could run 40# Power Pro Super Slick as a main line. I’m a G.Loomis rod fan, but you could look for those specs in something more reasonable. Having light equipment (rod and reel) will make for a much better day of float fishing, so quality rods and reels make a difference.
