As a black woman with long natural hair, I find that other black women don't believe my hair is real initially. When I get asked about the products I use, I say I make my own hair products. When I tell them that I shampoo twice a week, they say that is too much work. So, my conclusion is, we as black women, have at lot to learn about our natural hair.

When you know what you are doing and you prep. It's really not a long process. Natural hair is so misunderstood and it's definitely not for the lazy. But here is the thing. To have healthy hair it does not matter the texture, length, ethnicity, or race. You are going to have to nurture your hair. Every race, every texture, everyone hair has its own set of problems or I would just say uniqueness cause problems sound negative. You just have to take the time to get to know your hair and know what it like and how to make it thrive. Once you get it figured out everything is smooth from there. I thinknif everyone focus on the healthiness of their hair and less on Length. They will reach any hair goals they are trying to accomplish.

I just did a post similar to what you said re:Washing Hair. I wash my hair once a week & create my own haircare products which cleanses the scalp, strengthening the hair shaft/strands, moisturises, thickens, by adding volume, with a protectant which immediately stops breakage. I’m a qualified Skincare professional trained by Clinique so scalps being Skin is correctly cared for. The ingredients I use aren’t the usual common names we hear of, I’ve deeply researched the amazing world of natural God given ingredients out there & I have the very best, to do the job! Even my menopausal hair is protected, when some stubborn Nubian “friends” hair would benefit it if they were prepared to pay for it & would have hair creeping past their shoulders by now like mine. Kitxander Says… “Good Hair Takes Care” & various different processes to help hair grow healthier. I’ve done the hard work for anyone who wants a product created with the Nubian Queen in mind & for All Hair Types because this is a non greasy organic skincare haircare product. #kitxanderhairfoodsystem65 £ 3in1Shampoo/Hairfood. @@toniahobbs5074 I totally agree ☄️ Re:Health Of Hairgrowth vs Length. You really can’t run before you can walk. Cleanliness of Scalp is key & Anti breakage, Moisturisation & DIET! I’m a qualified Skincare(Clinique) & Fitness professional with Diet & Nutrition qualifications. When I speak to Black women they really struggle with listening to women like me who know about what it takes to grow healthier hair & who look like themselves. I show them that I love wigs too & how I use them to rest my hair and not to REPLACE MY HAIR! I love being a Nubian Queen & the versatility my God Given tresses gives to me. I really wish & hope behaviours of some women change soon for women like myself who are really trying to build a brand which should be a lot easier given that there are so many Black women out there but are happy to buy products created cheaply by rich white people who really don’t care about their hair but know cheaply pricing is a selling point! And organic ingredients are fabulous but each ingredient needs to be used correctly otherwise it can have the reverse effect. My brand KITXANDER APOTHECARY has the formulas mastered so hairgrowth is really quite easy regardless of what your actually going through. I’ve had stress induced hairloss clients, menopausal thinning ladies, male & female, even White women! With successful results! I totally agree re:Hater. But we cannot continue to ignore this discriminatory behaviour due to people/black women who are incapable of showing respect & consideration of others who resemble themselves, but yet will be fast to say Black Lives Matter! Nubian Women with a good head of hair aren’t just born with it…they nurture it. Sometimes grooming procedures really don’t work, but what we do, we analyse what we have actually done wrong & don’t repeat it & replace it until it suits the purpose. But the really problematic issue is, is that black women realllly struggle with giving pure black women compliments if their non mixed/bi racial sisterhood friend/work colleague etc has lovely well kept & more importantly LONG HAIR! It’s as though they can accept a White woman having LONG HAIR but they are incensed with hate & jealousy when someone of the same race has mastered the skill of achieving what they fail to do for themselves due to sometimes pure laziness or a lack of self love. My mother used to wash condition & use quality products such as bergamot in my hair as a child EVERY SUNDAY preparing my hair for the week ahead at school. This was never skipped & then my elder sister would do it for me when she did her own hair & we would sit under a hair dryer. My Mum would also TRIM our hair so breakage wasn’t a problem. She wasn’t rough & took time sectioning the hair, & gently teasing the WIDE TOOTHED COMB through the hair in the first instance when hair was still damp. Blessed women with good hair really don’t need this negativity after all WE ALL have to deal with the discomfort & psychological pain of racism & discrimination from others who are quite frankly jealous of our full beautiful lips, gorgeous plump bottoms & stunning glowing brown skin tones which just don’t age in the same way as theirs! I’ve invented a Hairfood System which deeply cleanses the scalp using 100% researched organic products which protects the hair against breaking. The thickeness is instantly improved if you wish & a strengthening agent is added to preserve the length. If real Nubian Women share their knowledge & support others that look like themselves & create goods/product we really need to start now by consistently supporting & building OUR EMPIRES because other Empire’s are growing at an alarming rate & they are looking at /researching as always what Nubians use & talk about & steal it for themselves. #kitxanderhairfoodsystem65£ #kitxanderinstagram

I have always experienced other BW and Hispanic women, particularly American, stating what my hair can and cannot do. I also had an African hair braider comb my hair with a broken small barber comb trying to be funny. Of course I checked her and told her to use a wide tooth comb. She was trying to be funny and some of the other African women laughed. Its SAD how many dark women hate when another dark woman has confidence with her own natural hair. I had a Philipino woman, in another COUNTRY, roundbrush blow-dry my hair so easily and no BW, African woman, NOR Hispanic woman could do it without complaining or acting as if my hair could not be blowdried that way. IT SICKENS me, with ALL the hair education, specific women of color, STILL are the MOST hateful towards kinky, nonbiracial hair types. Many BW don't even want to be gentle nor take their time handling kinky hair because they still hold hatred and bias towards it and themselves.

It is not even my hair and it makes me feel so good to see us black woman rocking our grow from the scalp hair. For so long we were told our hair can’t grow - look at us now. At that time I had never worn any type of extensions or wigs or anything like that ever and when I told her I didn't know how, she told me I needed to get in touch with my ethnicity. I told her, you're the one with the thinning hair and the one who went to buy the clip-ins. You should have gotten instructions there. In all the years I've been natural, all of the negative reactions have come from black women. Some were even family members. The most genuine compliments I've received have been from white women. I remember having a nice conversation with a white woman while at the grocery store where she was fascinated by my twists. She asked me how I was able to keep them from unravelling without rubber bands. I explained to her how the strands of my hair coil together and when in sections they clump. She thought it was the coolest thing. It made me laugh at the time because it was a basic style, but she reacted to it like it was an elaborate masterpiece. I think the obsession with having "combed" hair is weird because the only way to do that would be if I straightened my hair, and doing that would remove all of the natural volume. Volume is crucial for many styles, and it's a blessing to have it without manipulation.

I was in Corporate America for many years before I decided to do my own thing. None of the less there is a big misconception that we cannot comb through our hair because as children they were calling people Nappy Head because people just didn't know how to moisturize hair. They just ran straight to the straightening comb or got a perm for their children. Some people ask certain questions out of ignorance but once they get an answer sometimes they become more Curious and next thing you know they're trying to do it themselves which is fine.. When I first started using grease again back in 2018 when I started watching your videos.. I forgot how long my hair was as a child from using Grease. I bought into the lie that grease makes our hair fall out Meanwhile my hair has grown so much since 2018 and I have followed your regimen. Some people just have the wrong idea about things but as long as you know what you're doing that is what matters.

With respect to moving up in the corporate world ; clearly, the echelon to which you ascend will be influenced by your education level. Also, there are prejudices in some businesses that prefer Black women to have processed or fake hair rather than our natural texture. Sad but true.

@Cam Jam - Exactly. While it's true that who you know does play a role, that does not negate the fact that education is also a considerable factor when trying to progress to certain levels. Likewise, the negative views that many people have towards Black women's natural hair absolutely affects our upward mobility within corporate America. If that wasn't true, there would have been no need for the recently implemented CROWN Act, which addresses natural hair discrimination in the workplace.

As a bw, I EXPECT black ppl to say ignorant things about natural hair because we have been brainwashed for generations to dislike, and/or hate it. White ppl haven't seen our hair since the 60s and 70s, so of course if they see it now they'll either think it's cool, or disagree with it but not say anything because they ain't trying to get hit with a discrimination lawsuit or get called the "r"-word. As black ppl, we give nonblack ppl too much credit when it comes to how they view our blackness. We need to have empathy for our ppl, and understand that a lot of us aren't there yet. Nine times out of ten the company you work for has a rule discriminating against a black hair, whether they follow the rule today or not, so to say Black ppl are more prejudice to natural hair, wouldn't be true lol. Prejudice and ignorance are two different things, especially when black ppl are conditioned to dislike their hair.

People talk about it all the time, it is medium length a few inches from bra strap. I shaved one side and love it- now they can look more.😂. People are so afraid to show admiration, but they'll show envy and jealousy it's a shame. I have worn my hair natural, relaxed, weaved throughout my life with no issues in corporate America. I have had the most horrendous problems from my own race, but never ever from any other race. It took me a long time to realize how jealous Black women are of one another. It's dangerous and unhealthy. I have always celebrated my sisters and always will. I love all hair types and skin colors. I'm just a hair person all of it excites me and makes me smile. I'm 4a/b mostly wear an afro, not blown out and picked either, I wash/condish/oil and let my coils tightly clump over time and pat, pat pat it down into a tight fro for weeks. it looks like a twa like that and I love it. In that style, No I can't just get a comb thru it. Why is it important to others rather we can get a comb thru it, maybe we don't wanna comb thru our hair all the time. When I blow it out and put it in two twists to the back with the ends tucked in, "why you wearing that old lady hairdo I aint seen that in a while but its cute on you" Me: uhm ok, yea thanks, I think?? When I straighten it, and they see the length and its curled. ppl have said to me "oh your hair looks nice, why you don't wear it like that all the time?" Cuz I don't want to! I reply, lol. I like having options and my fro is my preference. When back in the tight fro they got questions. You're right instead of being straight up they want you to feel inferior so they don't, cuz you seem comfortable and embrace your hair. You explained it so well! TY!

The statement that there would ALWAYS be hair in the comb is truth. This was my reality and frustration with using smaller combs vs when I finger-detangle and / or use a wide-tooth comb. Once I had my “Aha” moment in 2018 after taking down a protective style and in my commitment to fully detangle like I had never done before 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I, in essence, combed through, then combed again, and combed off ALL the length retained section by section.....😬😬😬 and then some...more and a little bit m o o r r e e e e e????? 😳😳😳.... with no end in sight 😲😲 I finally realized 💡💡💡 this was wwwaaayyyyyyy beyond shedding especially since by now there was little to no evidence of the length gained over 4 months of protective styling or of colored strands remaining. Yep, you guessed correctly - my poor head of hair was at its weakest ever as it had been permanently colored, (a few months prior to the protective install) and I ripped through it while wet/ damp. I have purchased multiple detangle brushes including the Wet brush pro (worked well for curly weaves), Michel Mercier pro and also picked up the Denman bush, Tangle teezer, Tangle buster at least 2 years ago.

Oh my gosh thank you for this video. I have been using your technique for about 1 year now. My Fine thin hair got so thick. I wore it stretched and down and it was like all of a sudden it seemed to have thickened. I was so shocked of the density of my hair. It was like it snuck up on me how thick my hair had become. And then this happened…… I don’t know what got over me or what would’ve made me do this….but on my next two wash days one of them I waited too long but on both of the wash days I use a comb and I basically thinned my hair out!!! I have been so brokenhearted about what I have done to my hip length thick hair!!! Now I’m one of those ones that you are talking about that have historically had long thin hair and thought that that was just my hair. But as I look back it has always been my wash day that has set me back with the hair density. You are so right about the comb. I’m going to be starting over yet again. I’m not gonna cut my hair it’s still really long but the density it’s probably half of what it was before my comb session. But you were definitely right you cannot comb through your wet hair like that!!! Thanks for the video you are so appreciate it.

Before I was natural I went to the beauty salon faithfully biweekly - l had family/other people always questioning my hair . They would ask if I was wearing a wig or if I had tracks 🤦🏾‍♀️. Since being natural (I believe I did the big-chop around 2009) I still get side eyes if I get it styled - I understand people will always hate on your “glory” 🤗… I really enjoy watching your videos keep up the awesome work…..

Story time 😆: I use to wear alot of head wraps in college. It was my way of protective styling . I was also friendly with the cafeteria staff ; and I would always greet them etc. One day, I wore my hair out in a big puff to the cafeteria . Out of nowhere an old cafeteria lady ran up to me and put BOTH of her hands in my hair and shook my head to see if my hair was fake. 😤I tell you it took God for me not to slap her. 🙏🏽 Bottom line: I did not greet her after that- but everyone else I did. It was so freaking rude of her. 🥲This also happened in NC. It will be your own people that try to embarrass you. Smh

Hello, I really enjoyed watching your video and the way you were talking about your natural hair. I'm natural too and I love to wear my braids, twists, and ponytail puffs. I always keep my hair washed, detangled, wet down, and then I will let my hair air dry or blow dry it. Then I will go back and style the hair. What type of growth oil do you use on your hair and scalp? I hope you have a good night and a great week. I will be looking forward to watching your next video.

Use cow ghee butter. It makes your hair so soft. Infuse with cinnamon sticks and cloves to deter the smell.

Interesting video! TBH I think that woman was full of it. I think she was really trying to tell you that she thought your hair was not appropriate for a corporate setting, using herself as an example. Yes, she envied your thickness and fullness. But she also was projecting. I’ve found that in the workplace, quite a few employees - black or white or other - believe that the kinkier the hair, the less professional the employee. I’ve had people question whether it was more difficult for me to get a job with my natural hair in twists. This was in the 90s. Some years later, on a different job, I remember one woman I worked with got a new boss and suddenly removed her twists and relaxed her hair. She acknowledged it was a new start and she was concerned her hair would have a negative impact. She was transferred to a different department anyway. You had the patience of Job with that woman.

People would get so mad when i wore my hair curly. I would dye my hair blonde and it still was super curly not straight at all. People would come up to me and ask how i got my hair to be like that. ?! They'd ask if my hair was real in front of lots of people and id confidently say yes😂 you cant buy hair that look like mines extremely coily. Theyd be so mad my hair was short barely to my shoulders and its not like i have a loose texture at all i just know how to define my coils. My hair looks like springs. I just shaved my head again. And im not doing color anymore cus it turns into a fiasco 😂❤

She is working through self-acceptance, accepting her own hair. She has taken what others say as truth and has learned not to love her hair as it grows out of her head. That is what a lot of women my age and older have lived through because the only narrative about black women's hair until the late 20th century was that our hair was "not okay as it grows out of your head" (except for a few years from 1968-1977). A little grace, a lot of instruction and patience (and don't let her too close in your life unless you sense a truly gracious spirit in her, that she truly wants to learn and not repeat that internalized hatred, "double-consciousness" mindset.

Miss Mississippi, I’m in my 50s, have natural hair & work in Corporate America. Unfortunately, both of you are right! You do have to know someone or have a sponsor (not mentor). Ageism is real (grey hair); no matter how many degrees or certifications. I’ve trained young non-melanin people; especially males and next thing you know, they are my manager. Most of my career has been in the Energy sector and the glass ceiling has left scabs in my scalp. The funny thing, I always received great raises and reviews but, the promotion or title; no ma’am!!!

Hi! I agree and understood the concept of what she was saying. My point is dying her hair black is not going to get her promoted. Getting that degree is not going to get her promoted. To me, it’s all about who you know. In states that don’t have a lot of opportunity like MS, a degree is honored and may be required. But not in Texas! It’s too much opportunity; therefore a degree is not priority. It’s mainly about skills, experience, and who you know. She and I are on the same level and I don’t have a PhD, and don’t desire to get one.😀

I'm still watching your video, but I may be dropping comments as I hear you talk. You know I never knew how to detangle my hair the way you were doing it. I always started from the bottom and worked my way up. Now I know you start from the top and work your way down with your fingers. Lolol

  • @mrs.mississippi5035

    @mrs.mississippi5035

Right… with the fingers you start from top to bottom. With a comb, you start from bottom to top. I normally detangle the bottom about 3 to 4 inches up from the bottom, and then start at the top/roots and pick my way down.
