I was 16 in 1976. What a magical time. The music coming out of the radio was a great soundtrack to be young to. Didn’t realize how lucky I was to live in such an innocent time when the future looked so bright.

Music can release any and all emotions in us. I LOVE music. I also hate it. This might be my favorite song of theirs, but I get weird listening to it. The words are almost verbatim what I think about my son's passing. So sorry about your sister.... I'm going to stay hopeful that one day me and you can listen to this song without tears of sadness...just smiles.

Me and many other kids from my neighborhood spent so much time outdoors. My group of friends (we didn't all know eachother real well, but it didn't matter....we needed more kids to play certain sports, unlike tennis or hitting golfballs on an open field) got together to play baseball during summer break. I played several outdoor sports even when summer break was over. Almost everyone needed bikes since it was normal to for kids to ride bikes everywhere. Staying inside the house during the summer break was not even thought of an option if it wasn't raining! Me and my closest friend always figured out plenty of different things to do....all accomplished without spending hardly any money despite all the hours of enjoyment each week.

I was seven years old when this song was released, my father, grandfather and two uncles were playing this while sipping on beer, I was the only one who thought that this was a black group and I said it loud to them, they all laughed and said "no, everyone has soul music within them, and regardless of color always keep an open mind." To date, hall and oates are one of my favorite groups of all time, rest in peace Willie, James, Dale and Adrian (my father, grandfather and two uncles).

I think Oates had the idea after he got kiinda stood up on a date by a girl he just recently met. lol, He wrote most of this one. One of their first few hits along with Sara Smile followed by many, many more they had.

Reminds me of a woman, I can't say that to the new one.

What can I say about this song?! I was in the Marine Corps when this song was on the radio....and I was captivated. It was the days of disco, but these guys were different! In the late 70's and early 80's, these guys had the Maidas Touch. EVERYTHING they touched turned to GOLD! Can't forget it!

I am lucky enough to remember when this song came out. So lucky to be a child born in 1970!

I was born on the day this song was released and my parents told me I danced out of the womb and laughed and moved to this song my whole first year of being on this Earth. Years later I am now a Dancer and Singer.

What an inspired LIVE performance by the whole band. No lip syncing for them, these guys were honed and skilled in and out of the studio. Pretty rare I think.

I was in high school when this came out still one of my favorites.

Been hearing H&O on the radio all my life, and it's only now that I'm starting to appreciate how amazing and talented these guys really were.

These two are definitely among if not the best duo ever in my opinion. From the first time I heard their music in 84/85 till now.They still sound amazing to this day.Their songs always make my day!!!

Richard Armstrong No doubt and I was born in 77 and love music even from the 50's and 60's as well.

Incredible still . I was blessed to grow up in the 70 's and 80's . They used to write and perform actual music back then . It had actual meaning. When you were done listening it touched your soul . It helped you hang on . There was no sampling . There was no aggrandizement of thuggery and violence. Truly a shame what music had become. No heart . It's empty . Just because you can hit 15 notes doesn't make it great . They still play our music , and will for decades. Love to my brothers and sisters.

Ya know, I also grew up in the 70's and 80's. My all-time favorite bands are Rush, Styx, and 38 Special. That does not mean I agree with your assessment of today's music. If you actually listen, I mean really listen to a lot of the music you feel is glorifying "thuggery", I think you'll discover that a whole lot of it is warning the listener to avoid that life at all costs. I also believe that every era has some incredible artists. From Prince, Kanye West (as much as I hate that guy I cannot deny that he is a musical genius) to the Foo Fighters and Ed Sheeran. If you don't realize that music still evolves just like it did back in our day and always will, then man, you haven't really opened up your soul and you're missing out.

@@msexton1968 Okay the "thuggery" rap litterly goes into the heart and soul, what you consume it was you bring into the heart and soul. The singer doesn't warn the listener to avoid that. That's why kids think it's cool that their pants are halfway down their but and act all tough and hard. This singing of "thuggery" is crap culture okay. There's people who turned stupid. This music is 100x better than the "thuggery." Don't try to counter or I slip then hit you back with my counter, and the punch ain't going to be a good one.

You are pretty right on what music has become. Few people listen to this now, but this is what real music is and lets enjoy it you know.

This is amazing!!!! The 1970s music is like nothing else.

I was 10 years old at the time this video was made. I enjoy their voices together, and separate. They are timeless, I agree, & I don’t understand why in the world would someone give this a thumbs down.

There's such great two-part harmony between Hall & Oates, I'm surprised that they didn't use it so much on their later hits. This remains their best song. I believe it actually charted twice for them.

Never was a H&O fan in the 80s, but damn, anyone could appreciate this. They flawlessly transitioned their verses between them.

Yes, this is true talent...but dont be deluded into believing that true talent died sometime back in the 70's. Im 50 and know of lots of talented "musicians" lol there are tons. Hint-you have to look somewhere other than the radio to find them😉
