Song wise, there is nothing simple here at all. The song is one of the very best "crafted" pieces I've ever heard. There is allot going on in this song musically, and the only way to explain it is to look at how a pocket watch works. Musically, it's like that.

many of my heroes from the sixties had a hard time performing live as good as the studio tricks. Perry is still alive and well and of course we see even better that the original recording. the instrumental technique was zero difficult, but by the same token the band members were extremely skilled. they rolled it all back as Perry joined the band. by dumping their egos and joining with Perry - the rest is history. god bless them all.

TheKwod wow..just cause she/he mentioned Jesus. Doesn't even mean she believes in Jesus. You are an idiot.
Just a small town girl Livin' in a lonely world She took the midnight train going anywhere Just a city boy Born and raised in South Detroit He took the midnight train going anywhere A singer in a smokey room A smell of wine and cheap perfume For a smile they can share the night It goes on and on and on and on Strangers waitin' Up and down the boulevard Their shadows searchin' in the night Streetlights, people Livin' just to find emotion Hidin', somewhere in the night Workin' hard to get my fill Everybody wants a thrill Payin' anything to roll the dice Just one more time Some'll win, some will lose Some are born to sing the blues Whoa, the movie never ends It goes on and on and on and on Strangers waitin' Up and down the boulevard Their shadows searchin' in the night Streetlights, people Livin' just to find emotion Hidin', somewhere in the night Don't stop believin' Hold on to that feelin' Streetlights, people Don't stop believin' Hold on Streetlights, people Don't stop believin' Hold on to that feelin' Streetlights, people
He is the greatest rock vocalist of all time. Maybe Freddie Mercury comes close, but I mean the range is just otherworldly.
A powerful voice expressing powerful emotions.
I still can’t believe this was recorded 40 years ago.

You can tell it’s really Steve Perry singing because because of his ad libs. Oh the hair, the tight pants, the wife beater shirts, playing live, so eighties, so good.

I'm so thrilled that Forbes named this the biggest song of all time. My thoughts go back to when Jonathan Cain's dad told his son not to stop believing. Jon wrote the one line on a notebook - Don't stop believing! It took a while, but he finally collaborated with Steve and Neil and wrote this amazing masterpiece. Jon on keyboards, Neil's magical fingers on lead guitar, and Steve "The Voice" Perry's AMAZING vocals. Steve Perry will always be the GOAT!❤

Musicians had to actually be musicians in that era. They had to have a real voice and know their instrument inside out. I played in bands in this era. The competition was intense, and it was real. I had the experience of totally kicking ass with a great set, or my band getting our asses handed to us by another band because they were better. But it was real competition. We had to work harder to get better. Now nobody cares about real music and the hard work that goes into it.
Steve Perry was the greatest thing to happen to Journey. The Voice beyond compare
