What do you think were Shawn Michaels intentions in that match with Hogan at SummerSlam? Let us know in the comments below!
@jhmoxl
Ай бұрын
i tend to believe Shawn. I think he was working Hogan much like Terry Funk did. Hogan is a super hero character and so you go over the top and it just weird out of context when clipped and without seeing how Shawn worked as a heel for the last decade of his career. I actually thought Shawn laid out a pretty good match that night that built to a finish where it felt like Shawn is absolutely screwing Hogan out of this one tonight, and then nope Hulk is just too good.
@ad206

His intentions were to do what they wanted him to do. This match has become such an internet myth over the years. The match was no different than any Mr. Perfect match (he even did Mr. Perfect's turnbuckle spot), Sgt Slaughter match, anything Hogan did in the late '80s, early '90s.

People think ric flair, the rock, stone cold Steve Austin were the best on the mic. They forget the hulkster could shut down any career or storyline with just 6 words: "that doesn't work for me brother"
To bad that 2005 heel hbk only lasted for like a month. Should have been a full gimmick for a year. Imagine Heel HBK vs Babyface HHH in '06. Roles reversed.

I was just going to mention this, that it looks like dude has bigger arms here in retirement than he did when he was active! Shawn was never anything remotely close to a "body guy"; to the contrary he is always mentioned as the very first name, the epitome of the much smaller, more athletic types that was turned to in the wake of the steroid scandal and defined the most beloved era of wrestling ever. Perhaps, indeed, part of his holding up so well is the very fact that he probably took it easy on the PEDs when younger in bodybuilding you see this often that these are the guys who can still look good and don't face health crises when older. This isn't a current video but he still looks quite good today. Especially for a guy who'd gone balls to the wall with something as generally, multiple-ways unhealthy as pro wrestling.
Shawn, basically: "You're all a buncha mark-ass sheep." Crowd: * Loud applause * "Yay!! Fuck yeah we are!!"

Hogan was long past his in-ring date. Michaels, the character, acted as a heel to try and bring out the best of Hogan, the character. Get him fired up, get him passionate enough to have a match that Michaels (the character) would know was facing Hogan at his best possible, and could he beat that guy. It's a decent story, for WWE. He did oversell, trying to make Hogan's offense look good, because Hogan isn't in 2005what he was in 1985, or even 95. Hogan's matches always looked ridiculous to NWA fans like me, anyway.

It was surreal to see Hogan return to WWE to work with guys like Shawn and Taker after they had become the faces to the company in his absence. They were only really starting out when he was first around, but they were now more on his level and had created their own legends by the time he came back.
Love it. Wrestling fans are such easily manipulated nerds 😂
damn, seeing Shawn's muscles, specifically his shoulder repeatedly flexing as he moves his arm, he keeps his fitness up even when retired. make me think that as a NXT trainer he's using a more hands on approach and physically showing the guys a thing or two. its just interesting to see considering between his wwe runs he ran a wrestling school. Brian Danielson even trained under him, but Danielson has always cited William regal as his biggest mentor. back then it gave the impression amongst fans that shawn wasn't that great a teacher (this was perpetuated by whatculture in one of their many lists, not my personal opinion). I just like to view it as more character growth for shawn and he's now connecting with people more than in the 2000's. wish jim cornette would give him a second chance, I think shawns earned it.

Greatest wrestler of all time, HBK
I loved what Michaels did in that match. It was a perfect response to Hogan's bull crap.

FALSE CLICKBAIT - Shawn says it wasnt on purpose - that he was just a bad heel at this point - and taking bumps like he always did. So he shows a lot of respect for Hogan here. ...

🤣 he was literally upside down at one point, never did half the silly overselling before the match with hogan
I wish more people would play with the "real behind the scenes."
I just love Shawn Michaels
Going back and watching it, I don't get the controversy over it. Shawn bumped more than normal because Hogan was older and couldn't, and Shawn was bitey in his promo because they wanted Attitude Era Shawn vs. New Hogan. The so-called controversy, I think, was purely cooked up by fans because of the people involved and because, without this story, the match wouldn't have been that interesting.

I don’t think it was cooked up by the fans. I think a “journalist” reported it as fact and everyone just believed it. Pretty common practice unfortunately lol

The flips and running around before bumping was exaggerated enough to make it look super fake. Selling should be done credibly, same goes for underselling. When I first watched it I felt embarrassed as a fan. Cringe! Cringe is perfect for how I felt seeing it. You people... lol

The controversy was hogan agreed to a 3 match deal with shawn.where they split tbe wins. Then hs changed his mind. It made alot of people mad. He tried to ruin the takers career in 91

@@user-kbz09 But Shawn bumped like that when he was heel. You can easily find matches of him doing these things. People just choose not to because they're always in constant praise mode of Shawn in his second stint where he was mostly a boring face.

It's true. People hear cuss words a few times on WWE, they are like "ATTITUDE ERA IS BACK!!!! NO MORE PG!!!" lol

Well that escalated quickly...
Only thing funnier than that promo with “Larry King,” was him bouncing around like an idiot, That was more entertaining than what a real match would be with how limited Hogan was in his prime much less 130 years old, seeing Shawn get punched, and overselling like he got hit with a nuke still makes me laugh so hard it hurts, if Shawn could go that much back to ‘97 and not conflict with his religious beliefs, why didn’t we get more of it is my question, seems it was just the s**ual content he didn’t care for…except when he was blindfolded so he couldn’t see as we saw during the DX barbecue in 2006, lmfao.

@@korbendallas12tell us you know nothing about wresting without telling us you know nothing about wrestling. 😂 Hogan was a TRASH wrestler. The man had three moves: the Hulk-up, the Boot, and the leg drop. The latter effed up his back and made his already meager technical skills worse. Hogan was never big because he could wrestle. He was big because Vince saw an opportunity. He was big, blonde, and he could work a crowd. He went supernova when he adopted the Captain America gimmick. He was a cartoon superhero in the 80’s, so cemented himself in the cultural zeitgeist. Like any semi-smart celebrity, he’s carefully maintained his position since then. And I’m in no way mad at him for that. He achieved and has held onto a rarefied air. But to think he did all that because he could actually wrestle is ignorant at best, outright delusional at worst.

He had the look to get over in the 80’s and he was much more agile and athletic back then just watch some of his matches in Japan., or his match with Andre The Giant in Japan it’s like a whole different Hogan, his genius might be in not taking many loses that definitely helped his case in being so over and drawing so much.
