This is really the only song of theirs that was big. Those of us who grew up in the 80s watching Family Ties remember this song because they used it as a love theme of sorts between Alex and his girlfriend (the woman who would become his wife in real life). The song originally was released in 1981 and peaked at #79, so it wasn’t that big. Then, when it was used in Family Ties in 1986, the song blew up and Rhino Records bought the rights from the original record label and put it out as a single, and it hit #1 on the charts.

The original came out in 1977 and it was released again with a new video in 1994

What a song and only Billy could deliver no one else,this is and all time classic…..for a white boy he got a whole lotta soul !!!

I would subtract 20yrs of my life to have my mother back again. This was a special song we shared. Good to hear it again..... :)

This song was released in 81/82 and did fairly well. Then in 1986 the tv show Family Ties used it for the characters Alex and Ellen's love story (Michael J. Fox, Tracy Pollen) and the song went to the top of the charts. The two met on the show, married and are still married today.

I grew up with this music. They stopped producing great music in fifties and love songs in the early 60's. When I watch you two I can see that Mel just wants to reach over and take you in his arms and hold you and love you and can hardly wait for the pod cast to be over. Dancing slow to the Penguins, Platters, Cadillac's, Dupree's and so many-many more just fills my heart and soul. I can still feel those warm sweet little girls in my arms and their parents Putting their hands between us and saying "Bobby, you know better than that" HaHaHaHA. Working in bars in the 80s/90s, we used to have how the night would go by how early and often someone would put this on the jukebox. 😂 Same with a few other songs.
