"At this Moment" came out in 1981 and made it up to #79, was featured in Family Ties in 1985, and later became a #1 hit in 1987.
One of my dad's favorite song. The song was featured on a TV sitcom " Family Ties" in the 1980's.

@@VKrulikoski Alex had originally decided to make her roommate his girlfriend because of the math of doing so (she was a perfect fit) and while dating her fell in love with Tracy Pollan's character. She had a boy friend but they found themselves originally hating each other but slowly falling for each other. At a dance they shared a dance and a kiss, at which point she ran off upset. She was leaving to change schools to be with her boy friend and he chased her down to tell her how he felt. That's when the song was played, while he was considering whether to do that or not. He thought she had left on the train when she came out of the bathroom, deciding she couldn't leave him. The interesting part about the song was that it was used in the show but wasn't on a record anywhere, someone on the show had heard it and got a recording for it. Then people started calling in requesting it on radio stations to such a level that they quickly rushed out the live album with the song on it and it was a huge hit. Billy went on to do a couple of popular songs for the movie Blind Date as well as have a role in the movie The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai.
The sincerity of this mans' voice as he sings these lyrics will continue to ring through the halls of history for ever! Absolutely, beautiful.
Yes. I heard this first while watching Family Ties. The next day, my father brought home the one and only album Billy Vera made. And it was awesome. Every song is phenomenal.

I still have that album and you are 100% correct!
"At This Moment" is a song written by Billy Vera and recorded live by Vera and his band under the name, Billy & the Beaters, in 1981,[1] during a string of performances at the Roxy in West Hollywood (January 15-17) and featured on their self-titled live album, Billy and the Beaters, released that year on the American subsidiary of Japan's Alfa Records. The song is more notable for its second run on the charts years after its initial release, following a featuring on an episode of Family Ties, during which the song became a #1 hit.[1]...***Stand Artist: BeBe Winans , Album: Love and Freedom, Released: 2000
Alex and Ellen. Their real life love story is one everyone should aspire to.
35 years after I first heard this song it still remains my all time favorite song.
This song by Billy Vera was recorded in 1981. Donny McClurkin wrote his song, and recorded it in 1996
One of the best songs ever
The NBC phones were off the hook giving out the information on this song after it was on Family Ties; I was one of those callers back in the day - pre-internet. I still love it.
This song will rip your heart out whether you can relate to it or not. Heartwrenching...
First time I heard it was when it was on Family Ties
This song says the quiet part out loud and clear. Billy is bad to the bone with this beautiful song it speaks so much truth it’s my go to song for heart break. Don’t forget the fantastic band mates and the sax man and the piano spot on.
One of my favorite songs of all time and one of the best one hit wonders EVER!!
Great song PERIOD!
I just viewed this on" FAMILY TIES "..no idea how I missed this in 81, but I thank GOD that I've heard it now!!
This is one of my all-time favourites!
Live !! Wow.
The song was recorded and released as a single in 1981, where it went all the way to... #79. It was used In the 1985-86 season of Family Ties and became quite popular, but it was out of print at that point. Rhino reissued the single and it went to number one..Looks like the Bebe Winans song is from 2000 or so.
ITS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES
What a song! I remember when it came out. I loved it then and I love it now. I’m quite certain this version was first. It just goes to show that great music transcends genre. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
80’s sitcom Family Ties Alex and Ellen dancing. She and Michael J Fox actually married in real life and are still married all these years later. 💛✌️🤘🏼
Where have these people gone 😕
This song is one of the saddest songs ever! You can feel the hurt.
Billy Vera wrote this song in '81 but it was used in '85 on the show Family Ties with Michael J. Fox as Alex. Alex and his girlfriend Ellen broke up to this song, it really did become an overnight hit. In real life, Michael married the actress who played Ellen, and they are still married today.
Was listening to billy Vera in the 70’s he’s 78 years old now.

OMG! I have loved this song forever!
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. Thank you for reacting to it.
I first heard this song in the fall of 1986 on the radio. I was In love with my girlfriend and we got married December 23 1986.
I LOVE this song and Billy. I went out and bought his CD after I heard it on Family Ties. And the backing band?? The piano is FIRE! And the horns?? WOW
We love your channel!
Bebe song Stand was released in 2000. Billy Vera song released 1981
Family Ties where i first heard it
I remember this song back in my high school years.
Family ties.....This will always remind me of that show....beautiful song !!
Yep, Family Ties. Around 1986-87 I think. Billy Vera had had hit songs as early as the late 1960s, but this was his only number one single. The song was used for the characters played by Michael J Fox and Tracy Pollan; they fell in love in real life and have been married for over thirty years.
I'm 51 years old I was a young man when I first head this song and it blew me away, it grabbed my heart and walked all over it over and over again!

Billy Vera was first. Mid 80’s
Good song. 80’s memories.. family ties was already popular, but the fact Michael J Fox is still married to his then on screen gf is cool too! The song blew up because of it & its held its own over time... Billy V plays it with such passion & soul every time 🖤
Hey. Thanks for your comments. I agree with your thoughts on “sampling without permission”. I could tell what you were feeling early on when you said something about chills and pulled your hair. I can’t find it now but somewhere on the internet there is something about the sampling, perhaps in the KZread comments. I didn’t know the song when it first hit, but about 10 years ago the band I was in played it for a few years. I listened to the Billy Vera version a few times to get the sense of it, but most of the other 100 times or so was our band doing it. I loved watching the audience dancing to it then stopping and watching in awe of the last 30 seconds. Our guy, a trumpet player, nailed it. Thanks
I believe Billy Vera sang this in 1986. It is definitely 80s for sure.
Billy Vera & the Beaters wrote this song in 1981, while the Winans did not go "solo" and were still with the PTL Singers until 1987
Billy Vera sang this sad song with such emotion. Great reaction to this song!
He also sings the theme song for KING OF QUEENS

Billys was 1st by at least 20 years. Both are fine songs
The song was written by Billy Vera in 1981
Wow. I just looked up BeBe Winans' "Stand" and heard it. Ty, I don't know which song came first, but it is quite obvious that the similarity is unquestionable. I don't even want to know, now, who "stole" from who (but I have a pretty good idea). Both songs are about despair -- "Stand" is about hope; "At This Moment" is about heartbreak. Both are very moving. I think the second song (whichever it is) was inspired by the first, and it doesn't seem to me like a conscious effort to steal anything, but to take something and mold something else out of it. When artists do this, though, I think they should give due credit to the source. The original songwriter shouldn't have to take the second one to court and sue him in order to get that credit, and remuneration, if that's what they want. That's the way I see it, anyway. Enjoyed your video about it.
This came on a tv show in the 80’s called “ Family Ties”. Michael J Fox character “ Alex “ lost his gf and this song came on. Btw on a show called “Mannix” The Dramatics premiered their song “In The Rain” and I went nuts trying to find it!
Family Ties was my first time i heard this song
This takes me back to when my parents had just got divorced. They still loved each other which is why the got remarried ten years later. 1981 what a year for change in my family.
You should check out "Storybook Children" a song he wrote and recorded with former gospel singer Judy Clay back in '67. It was his first commercial recording success, reaching the 50s on the US Pop chart and #20 on the R&B chart.
billy and the beaters
Billy Vera record this song in 1981, but wasn’t a #1 hit until ‘87 because of a TV show “Family Ties”.
Written by Billy Vera and recorded live by Billy Vera. First released as a single on Alfa records in 1981, Billy Vera was the originator/writer of this song and melody first. :) Having said that, Bebe Winans, Cece Winans are FANTASTIC!! 💜 I play them often on my Gospel Hour.
The only problem, my friend, was that the Bebe Winans song was released in 2010, while "At This Moment" was released almost 30 years earlier in 1981.
The first time I heard this song was on Family Ties. Amazing song, awesome show.
Ummm 1 person is a miserable cat !! Family Ties - Alex P Keaton & Ellen - when fiction becomes real!! I remember the episode well - I believe Ellen was leaving & there's the scene where Billy Vera is playing it in a coffee house & the Alex realizes Ellen is his true love & runs after her!! I'm sure it must be on KZread!! 💜💜💜💜💜
Thank you for doing this song.....It was from the 70's. It did take me back...I was once in a relationship with a great guy that I broke up with right around when this song came out.... It made me tear up thinking of that awful night when I had to let him know that it was over....He was a wonderful man, sensitive, smart, and a great catch for someone, just not me. I still think about him and wonder 50 years later and wonder if I made a mistake.
Wow 👌 👏
Love this!!!
😂oh hush I’ve been watching your videos r top rated! Love them! And I’m showing my age but this was a favorite of mine!
I first heard the song on Family Ties (1980s) when Alex P. Keaton (Michael J. Fox) danced with his girlfriend! It’s was an instant hit after that video! This song was originally released by Billy Vera and the Beaters in 1981 and it stands the test of time! Great song!! ❤️❤️
At this moment came out in 1981. Be Be Winans stand came out in 2000.

Al Meyer thanks . I couldn’t get a hit on my search.
Omgosh. This song was really popular at the time an old boyfriend and I were ending things slowly. For some reason, it always came on the radio as we were deep in discussion. Yep, I still cry.
I’ll always love this song! This was one of my go-to Karaoke songs in the late 80s and 90s.
Always loved this song
Love this song! Live his voice
Simply BEAUTIFUL❤❤❤So UNDERRATED.
If you can’t relate to this song you have never been in love and had your heart broke.
It's been a long time since I have heard this song. I love it. Thanx for requesting and playing it.
Real music from the heart . Soul knows no color
Yep on my ipod awesomeness
True story I was listening to this and simply reds if you don't know me by now both are amazing songs topped it off with Jeff Healey's Angel eyes again very good songs. They made me love blues they made me love jazz and made me love these more you know they're just good songs. But yes they're about heartbreaking commiseration. And then I'm going to be bounce back to Roy Orbison who did she's a mystery to me. And in dreams and things like that I love Roy so yeah I had like the trifecta and higher of some of the best songs to grow up to as a teenager sounds great musical experience I love you Billy you're the best. Also rest in peace Jeff Healey and Roy Orbison oh and Tom Petty.
Came out in 1981 and became a hit on the TV show family times
When my wife and I were first dating we used to go to this little club in Santa Monica called “At My Place” and watch Billy and the Beaters perform most Saturday nights in 1988 - 1989, then I got transferred out of country… we still pause, hold hands and smile when we hear Billy playing somewhere.

Oh wow! I love this song 😁 makes me want to cry for the singer 😢 such a beautiful heartbreaking 💔 song...WOW what a strong voice 💪 takes me back to the wonderful 80s 😊 love the piano! YAY! hair tug 🤗
He put it out in 1981, then won a Grammy for it in 1987
Like many other people, I first heard it on the tv show Family Ties. I’ve loved it ever since.
Released in 1981 reached #1 in 1987 after appearing on “Family Ties”
Billy Vera and the band wrote this song in the mid 70s. It never went anywhere, so when FAMILY TIES offered to buy the songs rights in 1985, they did so, hoping to cash in somehow on the song. After the prom scene with Michael J Fox and his date, This song was an instant hit. Billy and the Beaters never got any of the royalties from the recording, and the song is still owned by NBC.

Yes, it does sound like Bebe sampled some of the melody. This was out before Bebe recorded anything.
Billy Vera was the first with this song and melody. I looked it up.
Amazing love this maN singing this song, and that sax, just WOW!!!!
I seen the exact the visuals in my head, as the ones in/on your wall art when I was on lsd multiple times. It always amazed me how it made it to print. Impressive!
Billy was known as the blue eyed soul . He has appeared at the Apollo theatre in Harlem many times and has recorded and sang with Judy Clay . He also has a star on the Hollywood walk of stars. One of my favorites is MY Heart Cries .
Family Ties. Final Answer.
This came out in 1986, was the first.
Do you actually realize how many songs come out, a day worldwide. It's impossible all of that is pure original stuff.. Influenced, inspired, stolen, borrowed, different lines , wat ever it is, it all comes from yesterday's artists. The own personal touch is what makes a great artist. Even the Egypt pharaohs built tempels with stones from old tempels.
this is the original, released in 1981. Stand was released in 2000.
At the end he shoots he scores !

1985 came back from Texas to have my girl Cathy B tell me she was seeing another guy. We were in a diner with table top jukeboxes and this song came on. Still brings tears to my eyes when I hear it. good music can recall emotions from 35 years ago. Amazing
I was talking to my kids when I heard it on T V on family ties . I have known billy for many years. I used to be a bouncer at the 12/20 club in Hartsdale N Y , and he played there every weekend. He was often called the Blue Eyed Soul Singer
