No need to apologize Mel. Actually you gave them a great compliment! Black Soul and R&B set a gold standard that some non-Black artists aspired to. The Rascals got there! Gotta check out The Rascals - It's A Beautiful Morning!

I just commented the same thing! Such a great song! 🔥
They were consistently on the black R&B/Soul charts during the 60's and 70's. They were the one white band that always charted on those charts. They were awesome!
Another one of the great 60's groups I grew up with. They started out as "The Young Rascals" but later were just known as "The Rascals". They were considered rock & blue-eyed soul. They had a lot of hits such as "I Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore", "You Better Run", "I've Been Lonely Too Long", "Good Lovin'", "How Can I Be Sure", "People Got To Be Free", "A Beautiful Morning", "A Girl Like You", "It's Wonderful" etc.

Arif Mardin often produced them, as he did with the Bee Gees' "Main Course" album, from which Shawn and Mel recently featured "Fanny, Be Tender with My Love." Lots of soul with both groups. The Atlantic Sound.
This song was number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 the day I was born -- June 26, 1967. The Summer of Love, baby!!! It spent 4 weeks on the top of the charts and ended up as the 9th biggest single of the year. What a chill soulful vibe this is! Sounds as a fresh as it did the day it was released. :)

Blue eyed soul. NOTHING BETTER!!! Like Shawn says, music has no color!!!❤
Don’t feel bad guys. They have a beautiful soulful sound. ❤
They had so many great hits, Their wonderful drummer Dino passed away late last year.
Groovin was one of the Young Rascals big hits back in the day. Good music has no color barriers, first time I heard the Righteous Brothers on the radio I thought they were a black group. Until I seen them perform on T.V. I said Wow! We were blessed in the 60's and 70's with so much variety of music.

Classic 1960s Rock right here. Felix Cavaleri (Organ/singer) had so much soul. I was 11 yrs old when this came out. Greatest era of Rock, soul, or R&B was the 60s.
Don’t you be sad Mel!! You are 2 of the nicest kids (I’m 75 so I can say that😅) on the ‘reaction scene’. You are thoughtful, kind and genuine and Shawn is a real gentleman. ‘Groovin’ is a great song I’d gladly teach Mel how to do the Cha-Cha to. (Shawn you can watch and then take over) Thanks to Dagmar for listing a bunch of the songs I would have forgotten to mention. THIS is a DEEP rabbit hole kids!! She did leave out their version of Midnight Hour, which is the version I like to play on my guitar, and is a little more hard hitting than Wilson Pickett’s version. I have to elaborate….I grew up loving Motown. First time I heard the Rascals I thought they were black as well! Then I found out the truth, and I then gave them my own personal label, which to me was the greatest complement: “these are a bunch of white guys from Long Island who sound black!” Every song listed by Dagmar is a winner, I guarantee you will agree! GO DOWN THAT HOLE kids!!! You’ll be glad you did!!

You are so right & I'm so glad to have been there in the sixties.!
One of my favorite songs of all time. Rascals were dubbed as blue eyed soul. As soon as I hear it I stop everything I'm doing. I close my eyes and just smile and relax. Loves the bird sounds, the harmonica, the tambourine, the bongo and the overall melody. 'How Can I Be Sure' is another classic of theirs.
This is classic rock gold, it will never die, it sounds as fresh today as it did in 1967, it was a huge hit. You surely know that white kids were really affected by black music styles, and black music has been emulated by white musicians for generations and was a major part in ending discrimination. Black blues music was the main ingredient in the development of rock&roll. Love your reactions!

These kids at least they were at the time knock my socks off I was around then
Yes I remembered this song from my teens
They have a number of really good hits. Like their first, "Good Lovin'." Or "I've Been Lonely Too Long." Or "It's a Beautiful Morning." Or their protest song (everybody had one in the '60s), "People Got to Be Free." Or "A Girl Like You." Or "How Can I Be Sure." You can't go wrong listening to any of them. The lead singer is Felix Cavaliere.
ONE OF THE MOST UNDERATED BANDS OF ALL TIME,THEIR SOLEFUL SOUND AND EXCELENT PLAYERS WERE THE SONGBOOK OF MY YOUTH GREAT BAND!
These guys grew up listening to artists like Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, Ray Charles, the Drifters and early Motown, and it influenced them greatly. They were beloved by many audiences. Thanks for sharing, and please turn up your mics next time.
So love this song. Many summer days riding my bike down town, growing up in my home town listening to this song. Everytime I hear it now, it brings back so many wonderful memories!
Great, great, great reaction. I'm 76 years old, and this song was big while I was in the service.... It's been on my play list for years, in 8 track and cassette tapes CDs and MP3s. I used to work on several college campuses... one of which was an HBCU. Had this song playing in my truck as I worked one day and several students wanted to know which "Mo-Town" group this was. They were shocked that it was a white group from the 60s.
I was lucky enough to spend my younger days growing up with this music, when lyrics actually meant something positive that you could relate to. A time when young love and romance had a great soundtrack to nurture it. It’s time to introduce the younger generations to these golden oldies, which music reactors like yourselves are doing here on KZread. My husband and I are in our 70’s and we subscribe to your channel and enjoy watching you enjoy and comment on this music. 😊
The first high school my husband went to in Chicago was about 96 or 97 per cent black so one day while in gym class one of the "brothers" looked at my hubby and said, "Hell, I thought they was white!' My husband said he couldn't do anything but laugh!! So we understand you!! LOL!!
"GROOVIN' " always makes me think of when I was going into my Junior year at Kent State University....it ALWAYS takes me back to that period when this was released in July of 1967...it was still on the radio when I started back at Kent in September. My roommates and I used to "groove" in our dorm to this song ( there were 4 of us with a common room where our desks and chairs to relax in were located, and them off of that were two bedrooms each with bunk beds, closet and dresser) GREAT TIMES!

HaHaHa Love it ! Us white folks got soul too ! I am 68. Grew up listening to all kinds of music on the radio. Before the internet, social media , mtv etc. The only way we knew what color the band/singers were was if we saw the album for sale in a record store or saw pictures somewhere. Some groups made it to Ed Sullivan show and one of my favorite shows, Soul Train. We didn't care. We loved the music. You guys are great !
I remember this..yes, friends, I am that old! It was a great blue lights in the basement slow drag song. It was very popular on WVON in Chicago (VON was the acronym for Voice of the Negro) the only “urban” radio station in those days.
This has to be one of best reactions I've ever seen. The look on Mel's face was priceless. Thank you beautiful people for sharing your videos with us.
Love you guys!! 'The Young Rascals' quickly transformed into 'The Rascals'. Great songwriting and performing.
This is that blue eyed soul that a handful of groups pull off beautifully.
That was one of the best summer songs ever, and the "mood" fits exactly what it was like growing up in Calif in the 60s and 70s. Such great times back then!
I always loved that song since I was young. It reminds me of skating with a boyfriend back in Junior High at our hippodrome and hearing it coming from the overhead speakers. But it also carries this depressing melody underneath. Thanks for the reaction Shawn and Mel. ❤🙏
I had the great pleasure of seeing these guys twice back in the middle and late 60's. Unlike some groups which seemed to appropriate black music at the time for monetary gain, these guys added to the genre. They were soulful, respectful of other artists in the genre, and a fun band to watch. The first real blue eyed soul group. They had a lot of hits listed by some here, but my favorites were "Lonely Too Long", "A Girl Like You", and "Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore". Do more of this great group.
One of my teenage years favorite bands! As soon as I hear the start of this big hit, I am taken back to a wonderful, beautiful time, thanks for making my day … I’ll be singing this all day. Mel no need to feel bad, The Rascals were part of the blue eyed soul era right up there with Motown 🥰💜☮️ Thanks again, I’m dancing !
I'm English, white and 64. I remember this from the first time, and only watching you today I learned they were white. You're not alone, and no one should be apologising. Keep up the great work, and helping to educate the world. 👍❤️
I was 13 when this song came out. We'd walk around school singing Grooving. Our generation always wanted to know who sang what. We bought 45's they came in sleeves alot had the pics of the band. So we knew. But never apologize just live and learn.
Thank you for reacting to this group. I grew up listening to this group. They have awesome songs. My favorite is How Can I be Sure.

So glad you two reacted to The Young Rascals. They were a great band from the 1960s. I recommend reacting to People Gotta Be Free next by them. Also, if you want to see just how great their drummer is react to The Young Rascals on the Ed Sullivan Show (song called Lonely Too Long).
There is no need to feel ignorant. That is the beauty of music, especially before MTV. We heard wonderful singers on the radio and never knew what the ethnicity of most were. Music was the great unifier for many of us.
The Rascals and The Righteous Brothers were earlier defined as Blue eyed Soul. Here Felix Cavaliere does the lead and plays keyboards. Other great songs by the Rascals are Glory, Glory,' People Got To Be Free' and 'Temptations About to get Me'. Most of their music is great. Thanks for your review and honesty.
The soulful Felix Cavalieri doing lead. I saw them several times back then and saw Felix about 8 years ago and he still sounded good. A great band with a great fantastic catalog of music.

Love Your Reaction to this Band....part of my Era. Check out they're other beautiful music.
This band seems overlooked by those reacting . They had several big hits . Their secret weapon was 2 great lead vocalists , and fine songwriting . They did some psychedelic albums later on . A New York band .
Never apologize for thinking they were black! I adore both your reactions 😆 just shows the fabulous vocalists out there. I grew up in the 70s and was fortunate enough to listen to music from the 50s on up from my brothers and sisters. As a white Canadian chick, I became addicted to the Motown sound.
Love the 60s. Takes me back to my teenage years. Music is for enjoyment. Thanks for reacting to this music video.
Right there with you guys. I'm white, and I thought for SURE they were black!!! Shocked. You either have soul within you, or you don't, no matter the color of your skin. Excellent reaction guys!!!
One of the great groups of the '60s. They combined rock, soul and blues. Excellent harmonies with great lyrics and also their.own style when they covered a song. Their 'Time/ Peace' album is a collection of their greatest hits. You could react to all of them.
