As a first responder... The chemlight idea is helpful. Yeah I have Google maps but it's very very helpful if you're calling and say "doors open there's a glowstick on the front porch". Plenty of times I get into the neighborhood and have misread the address or something.... Glowstick guides me right in

Okay as a firefighter this is an absolute fact! if you put a glow stick , On the front porch we'll get to your address the first time vs giving us just your address especially because alot of the houses we've gone to the house numbers are either blocked by shrubbery or just not on the house. the ones that used to get me where the ones that people had on their mailboxes that were reflective like that's all good and great if we're responding to your house at 12pm but at 2am that doesn't do us any good

For the bump in the night type home invasion, Two magazines attached by a mag coupler is a good idea so you got that extra mag without having to figure out a way to carry the extra mag on your person in the middle of the night. And it’s less you have to think about. You just grab your rifle and it’s already got two mags on it

My tips and .2 cents: Get super familiar with your neighbors. My direct neighbor is an EMT with loads of knowledge on first aid, trauma, has access to EMS radio. His wife is also a nurse. I always have their back and they have mine. Had a group of 4 attempt to break into our cars. Luckily our alarm systems scared them off but having an alarm to alert you when there is an intruder sooner gives you more time and more of an advantage. Lastly on the topic of home defense. Actually work in your home with your gear. See if that 20” barrel AR can be useful in the hallway. See if it’s not and consider a shorter barrel if needed. Make plans with your family and have them involved in drills. Where to go, who to call, etc. My wife has a spot in our closet where she can go and lock the door and keep a gun ready, along with a panic button for our home alarm.

Don't forget about your house itself. The things you have in/on your house, i.e. your pets, motion lights, fences, etc. can be the difference in you having those few extra seconds and obtaining the advantage on someone or not. Familiarize yourself with your house and all the things about it, and then train for said scenarios. It's surprising what you can find out about your own home and how you can utilize it to your advantage while in a training environment.

  • @mysticfate8773

Also, train hands on techniques. Especially if you are able to de-escalate said situation, there is the chance of reescalation in the form of a hand to hand altercation. Also, it gives you an extra variety of options to effectively utilize in the "what if..." situation.

Awesome video. Really good points and I love the emphasis on asking yourself more questions to find the solution thats right for your situation. Thinking about the importance of response time is also something I don't usually hear mentioned in these types of videos. As nice as it would be to strap on a full carrier and a belt time is working against you the second you hear the bump in the night. I like to keep a med kit in a central location in the house, so that if you dont have time to grab one its still close by.

Excellent content. The 300 Blackout option is critical for home defense, especially using subsonic rounds. You have to consider the likelihood that a round may penetrate walls and that is why the 300 BLK is so useful. I have a 10.3 DD with Dead Air Sandman. No Laser just the Surefire upfront. Chem lights are a great addition. I like your Flash bang suggestion.

I built a rack to stage everything right beside my bed. Having been in a home invasion before i ever got in to firearms, I intend to utilize every possible advantage. Carrier is kept with one side open to pull it off the rack and throw it on in 4 seconds. 3 556 mags, tq and lvl 4 plates. 10.5 sits in front on the rack ready to go. Belt hangs on one side with additional support crap if the opportunity is there. Everything goes in an inconspicuous nike sport duffel in the morning while I'm at work and out and about, because the entire world has gone fucking crazy and the only person you can count on is you. And maybe the only person *other* people can count on is you. People think it's crazy to have a setup like this, but anyone that's ever woken up in the middle of the night and had to fight for their life with their bare hands knows better. Be prepared, and reject the opinions of anyone that tells you not to be.

I use a 188gr discrete ballistics in a PMAGs with a coupler and +5 extensions on each. I have a TQ on the brace as well. I have a homemade bandolier that has 2 regular PMAGs, and 2 21 round Glock mags. On the side of the bandolier is a IFAK as well. I’d also consider a carrier with two side buckles because it’s almost as fast. I may get a flash bang now too.

My bump in the night gear is a 13.9" suppressed AR that's equipped to run under nods if need be (has a white light of course) and an old Vtac skirmish belt. The belt has an IFAK, 2 rifle mags, 2 pistol mags, multi-tool, roll up dump pouch, small knife, small light, and a pistol also lives on the belt in a retention holster. My thought process was that it was easy to throw on quickly and it has most of what I need to patch holes or survive a fight. My rifle is just my go to rifle and its 13.9" because we have wide open spaces here. Kind of a compromise, but it works. I do have a carrier, ballistic helmet, nods, ect that are all squared away, but that stuff takes too much time for a bump in the night. I never thought of just tossing a chest rig over my shoulder though and that might be worth considering since I have those setup too.

It's not an "exact science", and there are flaws and disadvantages to this system, but they work. Unless you're a highly trained operator, it's human nature to look at something that you hear hit the floor. A well setup weapon should always be the start point for a civilian looking to defend house and home. Also, a kit similar to this, is the ideal setup for a concerned citizen that's looking to increase their lethality and capability. Full war kits are awesome, and shouldn't be discredited, but the average person needs to be honest with themselves. There are not many plausible scenarios where defending your home will require 7 extra mags, armor, Crye clothing, etc.

Chest rig as a sling is a pretty pretty great idea. Me personally, 556 carbine suppressed with a light+red dot and my plate carrier next to it. I've got the carrier setup so that i can slide in with one cummerbund already set like it needs to be and the other i can fairly quickly apply because its an AC1 using the velcro on top method. I've tested it a couple times and am happy with it, but definitely want to test it more. I do like the concept that lighter projectiles don't over penetrate as much as heavier ones, but the sound benefit of 300blk is definitely a weighted benefit. Great things to consider, especially having layers of kit available if time is available. Kind of like layering kit with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd line concepts, it could easily be applied to most any plan or gear layout.

I err on the side of wanting to bring as much violence to the fight as possible, and have a unsuppressed SBR w/ 300blk supers. My wife and I have a rehearsed reaction plan, and I want everyone on my block to know that there is something going down in my house.
