Is This The Best Road Trip Self Defense Setup?

Road Trip Gun
bit.ly/2CHLudt
Because of the pandemic, a lot of my recent travels have been road trips. I often find myself in parts of the country that I am not familiar with.
Because of this, I have a self-defense setup designed specifically for road trips.
Talon Sai was in town on his journey across America in his awesome van so I figured we’d talk about our road trip setups and why to have them set up the way that we do.

It helps a lot if you have concealed carry permit. Plan your route and look up the carry requirements for each. There are links online that show laws of each state and what state honors other state permits. Also get a copy of the federal law for transporting and comply and carry with you. Basically, for the feds, ammo and guns are separate from each other. Guns are in locked hard case and stored away from the driver and the ammo. You can simplify some of the confusion found in state restrictions by following the most restrictive like not carrying a any gun into anyplace that sells liquor. Same thing for govt facilities and schools, etc. look at concealed carry.com and use the app. If you have questions, call the appropriate authority for the state for clarification. -- get the name/number of the person so the police can call and verify. You will find that there are State’s that you really don’t want to travel through -- permit or no permit. I have a permit and recently drove from S.C. to Colorado and back. I carried a copy of the key laws on my iPhone and reviewed daily. It was pretty easy for me carrying in the car. For hotels, I carried directly to the room and back so that everything was under my control at all times. People do break into cars at motels. Consider reviewing state laws for pepper spray. Not as good as a gun but an option to have available. Also, look up maps of where demonstrations have been held and avoid them -- one less potential problem. Enjoy your trip back east.

The regulation of firearms is legal. If the members of Congress actually wanted to address the issue, they could by exercising its authority under the commerce clause and banning state and local regulation of firearms. I wonder why no 2A advocates have argued against state and local gun regulations on that basis.

Los Fromla what on earth did you just spit out? You good man? A militia, the people are the militia, it’s a non-government regulated collection of normal people who are armed with guns and other weapons, sorta like a military group but not. The 2A is intended not there to allow people to “hunt down runaway slaves” as you so foolishly and incorrectly have said, it was made so that the PEOPLE of the United States of America cannot be controlled by a tyrannical government, just as England was when America decided to break away. Know the history and the time period. Also, if it was intended to allow people to “hunt down runaway slaves”, then how is it that half of the US wanted slaves and other believed it should be abolished? Seems like you’re just LOOKING to put the race/slavery card in this. In the modern day, the 2A is no different. It was never intended for slaves and still is not, it still stands to keep a potentially corrupt or tyrannical government from EVER oppressing the people. If you leftists think Trump is Hilter, then you should be all FOR the 2A. I’m not even a Trumpy supporter/worshipper. Edit: the 2A is NOT the government giving itself or ANYONE the right to keep and bear arms, it’s the documentation that says that INALIENABLE rights to defend yourself and your country from bad people, and these rights are GOD-GIVEN (or if you’re atheist, well, they’re rights born into you as an American, that no one can ever take).

You can thank federalism (specifically an idea know as selective incorporation for this one). The 14th amendment ruled that all the rights and liberties of born or naturalized citizens of the U.S on the Bill of rights are applied at the state level. But SCOTUS ruled that each of the rights or liberties had to be incorporated against the states on a case by case basis as a way to still reserve power to state governments.

Those people haven't traveled through rural Arkansas at 2 AM. There's some weird people out there in places they logically shouldn't be. We used to travel to spend Christmas in a rural town in Missouri, little bitty place. Crime there was rare, but there were incidents, over time, of houses being attacked by small gangs of intruders around the holidays. Nothing ever happened to us, but my grandparents, some years, would spot strangers sitting in their cars across the street, watching my grandparent's house during the Christmas holidays. Police wouldn't do anything because it's not illegal to sit in a parked car. Cousin of mine has a farm in the sticks, he has a severe problem with meth heads trespassing onto his property and cooking meth there. If you visit him, he insists you bring your own rifle and preferably also a sidearm. Point is, there's lots of reasons you might need a compact self defense weapon to travel with long before the current unrest.

No need to look for a specific class on the subject. The only useful areas of cover a basic vehicle provides is the engine and rear wheel well or the vehicle faced long ways. Those are known as hard points and should be used for a VERY short period. Prioritization should be to get the fuck away from the vehicle and to better cover before the vehicle becomes a true bullet magnet. If inside the vehicle shooting out the front windshield, the first bullet or two leaving your barrel will typically deflect upwards. If shooting into a front windshield the rounds typically deflect downwards. To minimize deflection just keep shooting through an already made hole where possible. If not possible then no big deal. There's a couple other key points but you get the idea. A lot of it is common sense and there's nothing "dynamic" at all about it.

So far, both Google and locals haven't had much advice for me. I just tried researching for "dynamic shooting range" etc., with zilch success. Any other terms you can suggest? I mean, there's gotta be SOMETHING within driving distance, right?🤯 Since I really don't know what I'm doing yet, I also don't own yet.
