You lost me when you said the sequels get steadily worse, shrek 2 is literally the best of them all, one of the best sequels ever made.

Shrek 1 is a classic, Shrek 2 is the best, Shrek 4 is the most underrated.

The guys at Mr Sunday movies are covering the Shrek movies for their caravan of garbage segment at the moment and mentioned that mama bear appears at the end in the dance number. I never even noticed that she was apparently murdered half way through the movie and I’ve seen shrek like 20 times, shows how much notice I take haha.

I haven't watched Shrek in forever (probably over 10 years or more) but I always thought of it as an animation classic. Maybe as a 34 year old man I wont be so fond of it but never knew there was this idea it was something to be shrugged at or dismissed years later. I need to watch it again to see how it holds up.

if you never watched the 4th one how do you know its bad?...3 sucks 4 is amazing...its not parody comedy but its funny as heck

Shrek 2 is honestly a really well-thought-out follow-up to the first film that expands upon the original while still playing into Fairy Tale tropes. Prince Charming arriving late to rescue the princess for the opening, a Fairy Godmother being the antagonist, all of this because Shrek essentially flipped the story on its head in the first film.

Here's my rank for the Shrek movies: Shrek 2 Shrek Shrek Forever After (Shrek 4) Shrek the Third Yes, Shrek 3 is awful and the only takeaway you need is that Shrek and Fiona have kids. Shrek 4 goes back to form and is a great story. I really recommend you watch it.

Agree on Shrek 4 being great; it’s extremely underrated. I rate it slightly above Shrek 1 after binging the series (skipping 3) recently.

Thank you for finding a sample of the Farley/Murphy cut. It was nice to hear Farley again in something I haven't already seen a bunch of times.

I was working in I.T. when it came out and it seemed like everybody in the building (almost 600 people) was talking about this film. "this guy was sacked by Disney so he made this film just to rip the piss out of Disney! You have to go and see it!" and there were bootleg copies of it being handed around the building. There was a Samsung account there and they had a massive TV and they would watch it at night when they were the only ones in the building. It doesn't seem like all that much now, but at the time it was a big deal.

Not gonna lie hearing Farley as Shrek made me sad at what could’ve been

Oh my god. I never realized the whole Momma Bear getting gutted! I remember seeing Papa and Baby Bear being sad but I never put 2 and 2 together! 😱

28:18-28:57 During a Chris Farley tribute episode of Fly on the Wall with Dana Carvey and David Spade, Chris's brother John mentioned that Chris supposedly had five days of recording sessions left to finish his lines for Shrek. John then mentioned that after Chris's passing, he was contacted by someone at DreamWorks to record the remaining lines and finish the movie since John could mimic Chris's voice, but he had turned down the offer.

lilo & stitich came out after emperor's new groove...saved the company so they could make crap for 6 years before princess & frog ....love that stitch movie..its better than tarzan mulan beauty mermaid pocho hunchback and hercules...is it better than aladdin or lion king?..no but its also original unlike those films...so...it gets more points from me...

Shrek 3 when the frog King Harold dies and live and let die by Paul McCartney plays as the queen sends his dead frog body off in a shoebox on a lillpad. 😥

Shit-Show IRC, it’s an up-and-coming movie studio.

I was always raging about how Disney was an affront to American culture and a detriment to the upbringing of our children. An old buddy of mine shows up one night and says, "let's go see Shrek, I think you are gonna love this movie." I was falling out of my seat laughing at the jokes in the theater. Other people in the theater were pointing and laughing at me because I was so into this movie.

William Steig died right as Shrek 2 was coming out, and there’s a dedication to him at the end.

Now going have to watch it over again LoL

because toy story is pixar apple and disney and had so many people apart of it from steve jobs to george lucas, no one else really made close to as much money from a 3d animated film quite like the higher ups on shrek 1-4....the producers investors heads of the company made so much on it...

Its funny because I love Emperors new groove, but i also wish we had gotten Michael Allers heartfelt incan myth

um shrek 2-4 all made over 750 million box office wise and with inflation over 830 million...and 2 made over a billion with inflation 3 made over 900 million...and that does not count the dvd blue ray ect. sales...they exist for a reason

eddie was also on snl...so was murray....

Cmon, u gotta watch the second one, it's the best in the series!

@@ItWasAShtShow from a script pov, the second one is the overall strongest. The first part, with the family feud really hits at the more adult audience, keeping it fun with the jokes and goofing around. Then in the se half really crank up the stakes and it's a dang roller coaster of emotions. I still think the castle raid with "holding out for an hero" is a memorable sequence. While the third script is basically empty and nonexistent. The fourth is more solid, but nothing compared to the first two.

Rewatch Shrek 2, it's by far the best of the series. Better songs, better jokes, better animation, better use of the side characters.

@@ItWasAShtShow would recommend watching Shrek 2 again - it’s a brilliant self contained entity and builds up to a genuine 10/10 sequence: their rendition of I Need A Hero - the build up, the editing, the character beats, the score, the jokes, the action etc are all expertly expressed in this one sequence and it’s genuinely a thrilling build up to the final scenes.

bug's life is just kids seven samurai by kurosawa...thats why it gets hate...to me chicken run road to eldorado shrek and prince of egypt is better than any disney non pixar film from 1995-2001...and i like sinbad flushed away kung fu panda and 2 plus megamind and shrek 2 a lot as well ...imo those films were the best from that 2003-2010 era made by either company as well...its tough for non pixar disney animation but their saving grace for almost 18 years was lilo and stitch..like without that pre frozen they would of had a tough 17.5 year stretch while dreamworks imo had a monopoly of most of the best films..

Myths and mythology like Egypt's are a significant part of religion though. Disney's Ten Commandments (whoa never heard of this) wouldn't be different from Hercules having Zeus IMO. I can imagine the PR nightmare that'd be though.
