Sewing Lace Cap Sleeves for my Friend's Wedding Dress

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I thought it would be fun to share a little more "me" with you all! Fashion and design is a huge part of my life and I often get asked by friends and family to create custom design clothing for them. When my friend came to me and asked if I could create detachable lace cap sleeves for her wedding dress, I was so honoured!
After the first fitting with her, I thought: "this might be fun to film!" So, I decided to film the process of creating custom lace cap sleeves. I hope you enjoy watching and please let me know if you'd want to see more videos like this in the future!

    Thank you so much for posting this! I had a wedding dress emergency with my daughter due to a horrible bridal shop saleswoman and had to add sleeves to a strapless gown just a few weeks ahead of the wedding... and I live out of town, so had less than 24 hours to come up with something & have no bridal gown experience at all. I watched your video several times and it gave me the basics I needed to create her lace sleeves - thank you thank you thank you, I don't know what I would have done without this!

That makes it so extra stressful on top of everything else with planning a wedding. Thank you so much for your comment, made my day! 🤍🌸 I hope the wedding was wonderful!!!!

    Thankyou for sharing such a special video Emily. I enjoy seeing a variety of content on my favourite channels and to get to know people more. How lovely to have the opportunity and wonderful skills to make something so beautiful and how blessed is the bride to have a sweet and very talented friend. Were you able to capture any footage or photos of making your own wedding dress? Many years ago I made my wedding gown, a Christening robe worn by two of our six children and some nursery accessories using my bridesmaid's tiny blue and white floral dress fabric. Not a lot of sewing since then but I do like the idea of stitching on scrapbook pages and have tried it once. Beautiful Pandora jewellery and pink box too! :)

    Thank you so much for your kind words, Susan! I am so happy you enjoyed seeing something different from my typical Pandora videos. It is really fun for me to branch out. I love that you made your own wedding gown, nursery accessories and a christening robe! That is SOO special and something your family will cherish I am sure! I love sewing, but I know exactly what you mean...life gets busy and it does take time to set everything up to sew/prep, etc. I love your scrapbooking idea!! That sounds beautiful. Do you have a video about that? Would love to see it! I have a few photos from making my wedding dress, but no video footage sadly! I'm actually in the process of doing a video about my wedding dress, hoping it'll turn out the way I'm imagining in my head, haha. Hope you had a lovely weekend! xx

    Thankyou Emily and you're very welcome! I have a few scrapbooking/craft videos in a Playlist but none including sewing yet. You may enjoy a channel 'Johanna Clough', a lovely and very talented crafter who uses stitching and vintage linens and beads etc and makes the most amazing journals including fairytale themes. I have just watched your wonderful wedding dress compilation on the iPad and will be watching again (and again!) on the big screen and commenting via computer. Amazing! xoxo PS I just amended this after re-watching my old videos and noticing I do show some stitching in a video titled 'Scrapbook inspiration....' :)

Just my cup of tea ;) and thank you for the channel recommendation. Going to go check her out! Awe, thank you so much, Susan! It was so fun to create that video and "re-live" the memories of that day and that dress! It was such a special project! xx

    Emily that's wonderful you have done some scrapbooking. Did you keep any? When I was a little child I made a scrapbook of baby pictures from magazines especially multiple birth babies, unaware of course that I'd have twins myself in the future! I so wish I'd kept it. We surely need more hours in a day for being creative. Ah yes I thought crafting would be your cup of tea! You've inspired me to look at my cup and saucer collection this week and to dust the contents of my china cabinets. One day I need to be more adventurous and try some different tea. I am in awe of the variety you share. I have for many years enjoyed only extremely weak traditional breakfast tea with skim milk and no sugar, just the very slight wave of a tea bag :) My dear sweet Mum would tease me and call it 'dishwater' bless her xoxo

    Paige Alesso thank you so much, lovely! 💕 Absolutely, you can use the same method on sleeves, however when you get near the seam allowance, don't hand sew the sides of the lace down, just yet. I would sew your underarm seams (in the other fabric) together first, then over lap the lace over the seam. It looks really pretty and prevents bulky fabric in-between the layers. If you are adding lace to already sewn sleeves, you won't need to worry about this step! ☺️💕 Tell me how it goes!!! xx

    So you just leave the edge of the tulle raw? Are their issues with rolling or unraveling?

  • @fashionstoryteller

    @fashionstoryteller

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hello Becky, there are no issues with the tulle unraveling or rolling. Many evening wear gowns and bridal gowns leave a plain tulle edge, depending on the look you are going for. If you would like to have a finished edge, there are two options you could try: you could use lace scallop trim to go around the edges and conceals the raw edge of the tulle. If you prefer no scallop edging (like this design), you could use the picot or rolled hemmed setting on your serger. This creates a different look which you may love for your design! Hope this helps! xx
