    Armskye: (arm-sky) bobbin clockwise good to know. Careful turn the bobbin tension screw a quarter ar a time. And don't go so far that it pops out and goes flying due to being under pressure they are tiny so easy to lose if they do pop out. Get an exta bobbin case to always keep on the correct tension for the transparent thread.

    Great Video! Please can you share how you finish off the seam for using the stretch tulle/ilusion effect. Is it correct that you can leave it raw? Also would you trim down the long seam you did down the sleeve you did in this video? I have noticed on some dresses that the seam looks very thin and wondered how they achieved this. Thanks again for a very informative video!

  • @findingshalom

    @findingshalom

    Hello! Thank you so much! Tulle can be left raw. However, most of the ones I do, including this one, have two pieces sewn together. One piece acts as the lining. The other piece the outside (with appliqués sewn on). It creates a nice finish on the end of the sleeve. I plan on making another sleeve video on my sewing channel “Christa’s Dress Shoppe”. I hope to do it soon. Thanks so so much for watching and commenting!! 💙💙 -Christa

    Thank you for your content. What are the price ranges we need to charge for this kind of work? In Europe and here in USA when we first opened the dress shop suburbs in Michigan I did most of sleeves/appliqué attachments, beadwork/ embroidery by hand but using the machine has changed my life. Like you I also learned from my mom and from being poor in Albania, anyway I’m happy and What a blessing to have run across your channel. Grateful of you with tips you give - my question is about charging people at our shop I feel that so many hours of work put into it with so little pay !? Do you have any suggestions or perhaps and estimate price list? I understand depending of the area of location prices defer but as a general formula maybe there is one. Thank you again for all the time you take and God Bless!!

  • @findingshalom

    @findingshalom

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hello 😍 Thank you so much for watching my video and for your kind comment. ❤️ I live in an area where I can’t charge as much as some areas of the US. My fee for labor on sleeves averages about $200 plus supplies. I used to charge much less but the hours you can put into them can be so much. People haven’t minded the raise in price. When I started my business many many many years ago 😄, I kept a journal of my projects. How many hours each alteration took etc. I came up with a general amount of time certain hems took, certain bodice alterations took etc. Then multiplied that by how much I wanted to make per hour. As I have gained experience and am more of an expert, I changed my hourly rate to reflect that. Because I pretty much charge a flat rate, there are some dresses I get stuck on and I don’t make the money I need to make, But then I have some I breeze through. It all evens out. I hope that helps. 💞

  • @findingshalom

    I use a regular stitch. I do stretch it a bit as I sew it so it has give, sense it is stretchy fabric. There is a straight stitch on my machine that is for stretch, but it takes forever to sew. If I was doing one wedding gown and had more time I might use that. Especially if I wasn’t used to stretching while sewing. (You don’t want to stretch too much. There is a fine line of too much stretch vs not enough)

    Can you please make a video on how to make sleeves with lining smaller Thank you so much ❤️

  • @findingshalom

    @findingshalom

    Жыл бұрын

    Hello, yes I can if I end up with an alteration on one. I haven’t had a lined sleeve come through in a while. In the meantime let me see if I can explain it with just words. Usually a lined sleeve is put together like a pillow case, “right sides together”, wrist seam sewn and then turned right side out. And then sewn to the armhole, of the gown. So in order to take it in, it must be removed from the armhole of the dress, and then turned to the wrong side (inside seam showing) to get to the vertical seam along the arm. That is where you take it in the appropriate measurement. You may have to trim the seam and clip the seam to get it to curve with the arm. I hope that helps. Are you altering someone else’s gown or your own?

    Thank you so much for your comment!! 💗💗💗 My mom taught me to sew as a child and I loved it. We were poor so having new clothes was a luxury. But we would get a box of fabric as a hand-me-down. I would dig into the box to dress my Barbies and later try my own clothes. Also, my mom had us make our own Easter dresses and Christmas dresses. Later my clothes to go to camp. Slowly as my mom helped I learned more and more until I could do it myself. Later, it’s what pulled me out of depression as I busily helped others. Bridal just happened as more and more brides started asking me to alter their gowns. And yes, it is stressful at times. Especially bridal since you are sewing for their one perfect day. Lots of pressure. But somehow I love it. 💗💗💗 Thank you so much for the question. 🥰
