    Lace and appliques are a quick way to add embellishments and look fabulous. There's so many colours and designs of lace available, or you can look for pre-loved clothes made from lace or decorated with lace and reuse the fabric from those. Happy sewing.

    Hi! Just found you and you explain thing so very well. I always wondered how to get around that curve in a much cleaner way. Ty. I often rip lace off off dresses and blouses and attach them to a recycled item I am working on. This may help in some cases. Thanks for offering your expertise for free.Thanks, Debbie

    Great information on working around curves. How closely spaced are your stitches? Also do you stitch the whole applique on (as in, evenly spaced stitches on the interior of a peice as well as the edges) or do you only do the edges with a few tacking stitches? Thank you for the information!

  • @RockstarsandRoyalty

    @RockstarsandRoyalty

    My stitches are generally evenly space at about 5mm apart all around the edges of the applique. I only sew the interior if it's either a big applique or it's going over a curve where it needs to be held in place in the middle as well as the edge. Hope that helps.

    Hi! Loved your video, I'm new to lace appliqués and I am hoping to add one to a leotard of mine and I was wondering if you can use a sewing machine or if lace appliqués always need to be hand sewn into place. Thank you!

  • @RockstarsandRoyalty

    Hi. Glad you loved the video. You can use a sewing machine depending on where on the garment the appliques are. Just be really careful of your machine needle hitting any beads or sequins. I find the sometimes the appliques move a little bit if I machine sew them so I prefer the finish of hand sewing. You'll find out what works best for you with some practice. Happy sewing and thanks for watching.

    @@RockstarsandRoyalty I know this comment is 4 yrs ago, but what if the fabric is duchess silk and you're sewing lace directly on the silk fabric at the hem of a ball gown? I'm afraid the machine may run stitches and ruin the fabric, but 6-8m of hem width is an awful lot of hand sewing 😅💀

    Hello, I have a quick question- where you're adding the appliques on the sleeves, are you adding it all around the arm or are you just adding it for most of the arms? I ask because would it get caught to the dress and/or would it look nice if I don't ad anything on the part of my arm touching the dress?

    Brilliant video. Do you have on that shows how to decorate Lycra for a dance ballroom dress? Sally

  • @RockstarsandRoyalty

    @RockstarsandRoyalty

    Hi Sally, I'm glad you liked the video. I don't have a video on how to decorate lycra as it's not a material I use very often. I know that E6000 fabri-fuse is good for adding gems and appliques to stretch fabric, so I'd recommend trying that. Adding non-stretch appliques to stretch fabric is tricky. You need to pin them with the fabric stretched as it would be when worn. Check out my vlog #65 which will be up this Tuesday or Wednesday - I've just finished a stretch velvet bodice for a burlesque performer and talk a little in that about adding the non-stretch sequin appliques to that. Hope that helps.

    I want to make my own bead embellished lace coat that will go over an a line satin bridal gown. My question is, do I make the coat out of say, chantilly lace, than add the extra details? Or make a coat out of embellished lace? I’m a quilter, not a dress maker so I’m not sure where to start. Help!

    Do you sew with a single thread? On some other tutorial it was suggested to use doble thread. I’m just wondering if it’s not going to fall off. Regular thread?

  • @RockstarsandRoyalty

    @RockstarsandRoyalty

    3 жыл бұрын

    I find a single thread is fine. Double threads get twisted and knotted so easily they drive me mad! I always use a good quality thread like Gutterman. You can do knots regularly as you sew to make it more secure if you think it's necessary.

  • @RockstarsandRoyalty

    Sew them on while the fabric is stretched the amount that it will be stretched when it's worn. Cutting the appliques into smaller sections helps too.

    I looks like all the lace is cluttered and overlapping and can't see the design good. Thanks for the tip for sewing them on the fabric

  • @RockstarsandRoyalty

    @RockstarsandRoyalty

    5 жыл бұрын

    When adding lace to a garment you're adding something flat to something curved so there will always be a compromise with the lace design and areas where it has to overlap. I always start by adding the lace where it will be a feature, such as the centre front, and keeping the lace design as original as possible, then cutting and overlapping over the curves and hiding as much of the overlap as possible on less visible parts such as the side seams that are hidden by arms. Another option to achieve a less 'cluttered' look is individual appliques with gaps between them, but even then they may need to be clipped and overlapped to sit properly over curved seams and edges.

  • @RockstarsandRoyalty

    @RockstarsandRoyalty

    5 жыл бұрын

    If you have any tips for adding flat lace to curved garments without overlapping it or it ending up 'cluttered' please let me know - I'm always looking to improve my skills and knowledge.
