Sena SRL Bluetooth Headset Helmet Review
www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/s...
Using 20S technology, Sena now offers their Shoei Rider Link (SRL) for integration with the select Shoei helmets. Seamless installation means quiet and slick Bluetooth comms that don’t disrupt the helmet's aerodynamics.

I have just purchased this SLR system and it does work well but there are problems. The 3 buttons are so small & have far to many functions using them. The biggest problem being when wearing a motorcycle glove you cannot feel or know where these buttons are located, it's very frustrating whilst riding and also very very dangerous. I would urge Sena to do a immediate firmware upgrade to this system, making it completely voice activated or adding at least volume voice activation. I hope you're reading this Sena.

I have been a loyal RevZilla customer for many years so it's with much bitterness that I respond to this review. I did not buy the SENA SRL, or a NeoTec2 helmet, though with all the advertising beforehand I was very excited for the products and waited to purchase after I put the helmet on my head to determine comfort. I called up a riding friend to see how his neotec worked out and he told me a long story of very disappointing issues with the SENA SRL and his extreme regrets buying the Neotec2. I'm glad I saved myself a lot of grief over spending potentially $1000. Sena Products have never been that great and I shouldn't be surprised about the debacle over the SRL. What surprises me is SENA's insane pricing when comparable headsets are out there that have just about the same quality for a fraction of what SENA is charging. RevZilla should be backing US the customer, and give an honest review about the SENA SRL instead of blowing smoke to make a few bucks. I'm very disappointed in you RevZilla.

2 new Neotec Helmets. 1 new SRL, waiting for 2nd (availability issues til July,). 2 new freewires for 2017 HD Ultra. Can’t get SRL mic working via srl to freewire to boom to iPhone. Gotta go directly from srl to iPhone. Also can't get SRL to Prism camera working either. Sena tech support acknowledges this is an open issue. (I would have not made these purchases had I known...)

I have a question on the ear pads and noise. The SRL speakers have (much) less padding area than the original padding that is replaced. Is this noticeable in the riding noise? Is the helmet more noisy after the SRL is installed?

I still have problems with the buttons in gloves. Packtalk on my old gt-Air the way better. Revzilla should stop such evident advertisement production and provide a real review for the goods.

I just made an expensive mistake in purchasing the Neotech and SRL-2 ($1,089) because the SRL-2 does not have a female Jack. I always use my $350 Big Ear earbuds, so have to see if/how to use with the SRL or take it out and replace with my 20S. Female jacks should be on every Sena as the speakers are worthless for music at speed. Sean’s should at least provide an adapter to install a Jack.

  • @RevZilla

You would turn on both the SRL and the Remote Control. On the SRL, press the center control button for 12 seconds to enter the configuration menu. Then tap the (-) button four times. When you hear "remote control pairing" from the voice menu, tap the center button, and the red LED will flash. Then press and hold the rear button of the handlebar remote for 5 seconds. If you have the RC4 remote, you hold the (+) button for 8 seconds. -DrewZilla

Very disappointed with the SRL SYSTEM the speakers are microphone speakers which actually sound like pure garbage. I cant believe SENA is considered one of the best in Bluetooth technology. They need to team up with a major speaker manufacturer in order to have a better sounding system and as far lasting only 10 hours for an average rider that may be cool but for a long distance rider it's a no go. It's over priced at 300 dollars and needs more work.

I just bought the SRL two to put on my new Shoei gt air 2 and I’ve always had seen a product with a jog dial and I think the system is complete garbage. The buttons are way too small. They’re hard to feel with a glove. It’s hard to find what button I’m pushing. It sometimes takes me 30 to 40 seconds just to send text. I think Cena really missed the mark on this one. I am extremely upset with having to pay $300 for something that I absolutely hate. I really expected a lot more. The buttons are way too close together and have way too many functions. It’s hard to push two buttons at the same time when you don’t know where they are.

On phone with Sena for 30 min they couldn't get to work with my internet told me to go buy different cable and download direct from computer. 2nd buttons too small. Have trouble with fingers, forget about when wearing gloves. 3rd could not hear a thing over 30 mph. My old helmet was Sedici for around $300 and was same that's why I spent so much. I wanted better. I got same thing for 4 times as much money. Save your hard earned cash!

Tow big issues with this system. When the battery is at the end of life then what ? Do you have to buy a new unit ? As far as I know Sena does not replace batteries. Also I ride many 14 or more hours straight. What do I do when the battery needs charging ? Do I now plug the helmet into the bike ? Kind of defeats the purpose of a wireless system. How about a battery that is removable so it can be swapped out . Al this time I just swap out the SMH10s I have . Sorry Sena I will stay with my Neotec and SMH 10s for now.

If you're considering Sena for a headset Communications while riding your motorcycle I strongly recommend you reconsider. The performance has never been 5 star with so many glitches. I've spent over $500 on their Communications products and regret that choice. For the first time ever I contacted their technical support for a problem. My SRL 2 that I paid a lot of money for the NeoTec 2 no longer is recognized by the desktop application. I attempted many fixes on my own before contacting tech support. Many. I've also received notices to update the firmware. Their tech support solution was to just ignore the firmware upgrade. The incredibly ignorant statement from their tech support was to state "the only time to upgrade your firmware is when you're having a problem with the headset". That's it. That's their solution? Well the headset is acting up it will not interface and will not be recognized by the desktop and I can't do an update to the firmware. I've seen a lot of negative posts for Sena and it could quite likely be from this kind of support. I also have the sm10. I've never been impressed with the performance and I've had many issues along the way but this really cinches it for me. I am done with this less than professional company.

$300 and you can't upgrade the speakers, because they're hard-wired in. The Sena 30K is slightly cheaper than this and a better system. I'm buying the Neotec 2 but I'm getting a different bluetooth, because I'm not paying a premium for old tech and inability to upgrade parts.

If you go to a motorcycle shop near you have them install it when there done it don't work they will throw another one in, this place will tell you to go pound sand just my opinion.
