Shoei Neotec 2 Helmet Review

Shoei Neotec 2 Helmet Review
www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/s...
The Shoei Neotec 2 takes the winning DNA from the Neotec 1, and dials it up with an impressive update. A revamped vent scheme allows for better airflow, and changes to the aerodynamics reduce lift and drag. Shoei’s 360 Pivot Locking System locks down a chinbar with a multi-piece EPS liner. Sun in your eyes? Flip down the Built-in QSV-1 inner sun shield. If you’re looking to add Bluetooth functionality, the helmet comes ready to accept the Sena SRL Communication System. Additional features include a micro ratchet chin strap, and all-new Noise Isolator cheek pads.

Best part about your reviews Anthony is your honesty. Its clear that your objective and not taking a hand out from any manufacturer . Another great review. Unbelievably I am trying to decide between a Neotec 2, GT Air 2 and a Spirit 3 I ride a 1200GS but just love the Spirit 3 designs.

THANK YOU for addressing the concern I was having while deciding between the C3 Pro and the Neotec II... with the SENA integration, it will be difficult to mount a third party communicator like a Chatterbox or Sena 10s if you opt not to get the SRL.

I've just purchased this helmet and what can I say it's one hell of a excellent helmet. This is my first Shoei helmet and the build quality is outstanding, the comfort is outstanding, the soundproofing with earplugs is amazing. This helmet isn't heavy, it's an average weight. In my opinion it's better than the schuberth C3 Pro, as the Neotec 2 is more comfortable and has a better pinlock (an Evo 120, the best one on the market today). The cheek pads are free to size when fitting, unlike the schuberth where you have to pay for additional cheek pad sizes. I have just ordered the SRL too. If you buy this helmet you will not be disappointed. If you can't afford it arrange finance, it's a must have......

Sharp's testing showed the latch opened during impact 30% of the time. That means the first blow could pop your helmet open and then you could try to use your face to slow down. The worst part is that Sharp's testing is not even designed to try to pop the latch open, they simply drop the helmet and let it bounce back up in order to test the initial impact forces. In a real world crash scenario, the weight of your head and body pushing the helmet into the asphalt is going to further flex the helmet shell; this may lead to a much higher probability of the latch opening. Not even a 100% latch closed rating is sufficient with Sharp's current testing, but 70% is appalling. In order to properly test this mechanism, the helmet should be secured during testing in order to ensure the shell has flexed enough to test if the latches are able to free themselves. Perhaps have the helmet secured underneath and drop something like a large slab of concrete from above on different sides of the helmet. Test should include: Chinbar Center, Chinbar Center-Left, Chinbar Center-Right, Left Side, Right Side, Top

I had a Neotec in large and it fit me great then I upgraded to the Neotech II and got a large as well, I was wrong to assume it would fit the same. I had to go down to a medium and add the 39mm pads to get a perfect fit.

So, now that the helmet had been out for last 3 years, how do the warranty work on these $700 helmets? Shoei says 5 years from purchase or 7 years from manufacturer date. Are they still making them brand new in late 2020 & early 2021? Am I going to pay $700 for 3 year old helmet with just a 4 year manufaturer warranty? How do the date of purchase warranty work in this case?

If purchasing Neotec 2 for the Sena SRL, be advised... Sena SRL Mic / Voice does not work with Freewire on Harley Boom systems. After some run around with Sena, their tech support acknlowledges this is a known issue. Its unfortunate since I purchased 2 Neotech 2's from Revzilla and 2 Freewires ; for rider and passenger.

I have just bought one and fitted the Sena mesh system not too difficult but if you do not want the system you have a ready made cash stash in the rear housing so never get caught out when travelling, in UK a £20 note is easily stashed under the foam insert enough for a couple of litres or a burger without trimming the foam..

I have just purchased both the Neotec 2 with the SRL system and the AGV Sport Modular in matt carbon tri-color. Yes, the Shoei is definitely much heavier. However, the fit and finish of the helmet have a more robust feel to it. The integrated comms is great but can sometimes be a pain to start up as you have to depress the + and centre button simultaneously and with a glove, it can be difficult. I use the Shoei daily. I like that the fabric area is easy to wash and the leather bottom does not catch onto velcro parts of your riding jacket. The cons of this helmet are that for those moto vloggers out there, it is difficult to mount a gopro and mic to the chin area. Also, the ventilation is not very good despite claims of improvement. I hardly can feel it when I'm on the move with full vents opened. The AGV is great for Sunday rides. It can fit a Sena 20S base mount and is easier to mount your gopro and mic. It emulates a little of the Pista R (which I have too) and has great ventilation. However, with great ventilation comes great ambient noise. There's no two ways about it. The downside is that it doesn't feel as sturdy as the Shoei and certain parts of it feels cheap. I guess part of the reason is because it is Made In China vs their Corsa R and Pista R range which are made in Italy. Overall, both are good modular helmets. I use more of the Shoei because it feels more like a workhorse and something that can withstand bumps and scratches from rough handling. The AGV gives a little more of the bling vanity factor and gives me the feeling I have to take better care of it.

Cool review and nice Z900. Love that bike! I have a GT Air. The speaker plugs fall out occasionally and I have lost one. It seems noisy. I have lost two breath guards riding with the visor open around town. A couple of questions. 1. Is the Neotech 2 quieter than the GTS Air 2? 2. Similar fit? I have an oval head. 3. Would you pick the NeoTech 2 or X-Lite 1004 for yourself? 4. Do the breath guards stay in? I wear glasses and struggle in the cold and wet with the GT Air and visor down, despite the pin lock. Thanks P

After getting word on the new Neotec 2, I really like the new looks but agree the thought of 3rd party sets or transferring my Sena 20S, or other accessories like a GoPro is annoying. Think I'll pass and I agree I thought evolution might have cut the weight down too but a minor bump up doesn't help.

Thanks! Did you get the open and close chin vent backwards? First day with helmet I came through a storm the vents were a little tricky but I was able to drive through the storm. As I settle watching this video and learning I had to slow down a minute and took a flash light on the bottom vent When pushed down I see light through the vent that might mean air would flow through there also. You are fast but remember you learned it first so you need to slow down a bit to help us learn.

Currently running a Schubie E1, so sick of my old Sena 20S losing electrical contact with the base in strong winds. It's that flimsy! This integrated system looks great, finally starting to see more helmets with more sophisticated integrated systems. Now, for Shoei to get my money: Release a modular dualsport lid to compete with the Schuberth E1 (give it a decent pinlock. The schuberth's pinlock barely works, and it casts disgustingly long lens-flares from car headlights) Have that internal sun visor and integrated Sena 20S EVO (make it anti-fog too!) Be under 1500g (seriously, the E1 is almost 1.7kg with my sena and a Hero Session mounted. It's atrocious.) Come on SHOEI, I am getting impatient with my Schuberth ;)

Anthony mentions the lighter HCJ RPHA 90. Yeah the HJC is lighter but that is achieved by being a noticeably more compact helmet, especially in the chin bar. The chin bar is so compact on the HJC that I can literally touch it with my lips if I make a fish face. Very claustrophobic feeling. With the Neotec 2 I have room to breathe and can make a fish face and my lips are still over a finger width away from the inside of the chin bar. Anthony failed to mention the two upper positions of the chin bar, one with a light detent followed by a heavier detent. I agree that the top vent, which is actually three positions (closed and two open positions) is harder to operate compared with the Neotec 1 or the HJC. Other differences between the RPHA 90 and the Neotec 2; the Neotec chin bar lock mechanism is a full 360 degree metal closure, while the RPHA 90 is 180 degree plastic and 180 degree metal. The Neotec 2 have a ratchet chin strap and the RPHA 90 has double d-rings (the USA version, ratchet chin strap in Europe).

Tried this on in my local helmet shop and was surprised at the fit. The reason? I'm definitely a long-oval head shape and traditionally am an Arai Signet guy. After my first modular, an LS2, I've tried three other LS2 helmets (their carbon-fiber full helmets and the Valiant modular) and, despite their and RevZilla's claim of being a long-oval fit, found them too short front-to-rear. But the Neotec 2 in size XL fit me perfectly with no forehead pressure point. Puzzling for sure as they claim an intermediate oval shape. Not in my experience! I'm looking for something a little more appropriate to a partial tuck riding position and wish I could find something with the same excellent fit.

Does the Neotec 2 address the side impact issues of the Neotec 1, it’s my understanding that the Neotec 1 used less EPS foam on the side to make it slimmer sacrificing impact protection, is this the same for the Neotec 2, perhaps this is where the extra weight comes from? Or is this an issue with all modular helmets? I’ve only used full face helmets and was thinking of making the change to a modular.

Anthony, you need to evaluate all lids (and especially the Neotec II), as a glasses wearer. The new all enclosed micro climate that Shoei create within this lid is good but as a glasses wearer, if you stop (even for a very short time), your glasses mist and no amount of airflow when moving again clears them. You are constantly lifting the visor to clear. It is a real pain. I had an Arai previously and you can have visor or face venting. On the Shoei it is only visor. Not great. Comm's unit is fantastic and features are good but boy is misting a pain.

Today I purchased the Neotec 2. I also tried the Schuberth C3 Pro, and C4. All excelent helmets, no doubt. But what made me to go for the Neotec 2, was the closing mechanism. I tried many times, but was never quite sure with Schubert, if it was locked properly on both sides in close position, or not. This particular feature was much better with Neotec 2 (Well, not perfect when compared with my previous 10 years old, a bit cheaper helmet.). Also the fully open position with Neotec 2 is perfect clear. By the way, I have read several opinions, that the C3 Pro is better option than the C4.

  • @RevZilla

    @RevZilla

    5 жыл бұрын

The main reason to get the Neotec 2 is if you want a high-quality modular helmet with an internal sun visor. The accommodation for the integrated communicator is a secondary feature. If you want a full-face (fixed chin bar) helmet with an internal sun visor, there's the GT-Air 2. If you don't need an internal sun visor and want a full-face helmet, then there are the RF-1200 and RF-SR. Only the Neotec 2 and GT-Air 2 can accept the integrated SRL communicator, though it's harder to mount other communicators on them. In that respect, the RF-1200 and RF-SR are more versatile. -DrewZilla

You can install other brands, if you're patient enough. We have 1 Sena SMH10, which we can not use with this helmet along with Cardo Freecom2 as a "ready fit" comm systems. That bring said, if you're really interested, you can install them, albeit in "undesirable location". My main gripe now is the price, at@$700 for a 3 year old model helmet??? Which by the way has 5 year warranty from day of purchase OR 7 years from manufacture date, whichever comes first, according to Shoei warranty. Either way we lose, unless they still manufacture brand new helmets today, at least within past 12 months.

Few helmets brands actually measure wind noise-- Schuberth is the only one that I'm aware of. A buddy of mine just used a Neotec 2 on a recent road trip and liked it a lot, he said it was quiet-- but of course those experiences are subjective. Provided you invest in a premium helmet suited to your riding style, it will be on the quiet side of things. I highly recommend the Neotec 2 to that end. -Kraus-e

If you have a thin jawline, I recommend getting size small and then getting the thinner SM 5mm center pad (stock is SM 9mm). That gives you the thicker cheek pads of size small, while the thinner center pad gives you a slightly looser fit around the crown compared to the stock size small. If you have a wide jaw, then I recommend getting size medium and then getting the thicker MD 13mm center pad (stock is MD 9mm). That gives you the looser stock fit in the cheeks of size medium, and the thicker MD 13mm center pad gives a slightly tighter fit around the crown of the head compared to the stock size medium. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/shoei-neotec-2-center-pad *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/shoei-neotec-2-helmet

Don't buy this helmet if you want quiet, its no better than your average helmet. Its a BIG price to pay for a helmet, but getting it to reduce noise is not going to be one of the things that will do, everything else is nice about the helmet, I do think its over rated for a sales point due to the massive profit in sales. The other side is when guys buy the helmet at this price point, they also don't want to give negative feedback because they will feel hard done bye, with spending extreme amount of money on a helmet when they could have got a similar helmet for half the price. One major flaw with helmets, is when you buy a helmet and try it on your bike you cant take it back, so your stuck with it. RevZilla, don't say its a quiet helmet when its NOT, its misleading.
