Shoei Neotec 2 - Road Test and Detailed Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I didn't rush to get this Shoei Neotec 2 video out as an 'exclusive' I wanted to give it a proper 'Road Test' before giving you my verdict. When it comes to modular helmets I'm a virgin, so I really needed to be convinced by this new offering from Shoei. Here's what I thought....

    The Neotec Mk1 was the first Shoei I never got on with, gave me jaw ache when closed and felt top heavy when open. I now have a Shark Evo One which is dual certified and the chin bar flips over so it's well balanced in both configurations. Thanks for the review.

    Interesting. First person I have come across that had the same issue as me. I had a Multitec and two Shoei Adventure helmets and I love them, they are perfect for me, but the Neotec absolutely kills my jaw...Mine just gathers dust. Barely ever used it. I would love to know if this one would be better.

    I've worn Arai full-faced helmets for 20 years and was shopping for a new one. My first Shoei was bought in 1986 and left a very bad impression as it was a terrible fit after my Bell Star II. It left a scorching hot spot on my forehead after a couple of hours that I just tolerated. What I didn't realize was the amount of wind noise it was letting in which contributed greatly to my tinnitus after using it for a few years. It was just the wrong helmet for me. Fast forward to today and I was again looking for another Arai but was interested in a flip-front which they will not make. The salesman had me try on a Neotec II and I was sold. They're being cleared out on discount as the model 3 is out so at $200 off, it was a deal. But they only had matte black. A long search found the Wine Red I wanted in my size and I'll have it in a couple of days. Shoei has come a long way since 1986.

    Hi Tony great down to earth review. "Cool" of cause surely as Bikers its what we all want to be ! So much so in recent years I have brought an Arai 2014 TT RX7 and more recently a Shoei Spirit 3 but somehow both of these ended up staying on the shelf and I used my Schuberth C3 Flip even though it mists up even with a pin lock fitted. Its just so convenient to use in garages etc so forget cool is my opinion. Should also add that having also owned a Shoei xr1000 and the quality is so much better than Arai that its Shoei all the way for me but this time the Neotec 2

    I bought my first flip helmet (Schuberth C3) around 8 years ago and wouldn't go back to a standard helmet for road use. I've just bought a new Neotec 2 and have to say I think it is superior to the C3. Better ventilation and all round visibility. If I'm honest I'd say it's a tad noisier but that's no big deal for me as I use plugs. Fit snd finish are top drawer.👍

    Excellent review Tony. Similarly, I ride with an open face Bell 500 around town trips, but also switch to my modular Caberg Duke for highway riding. Here in Thailand it can be extremely hot so when passing through towns or villages at the slow speeds, it can be nice to flip up the front briefly for some needed fresh air. I think your Shoei version has much better quality and fitment, but do you know it's crash test or 'SHARP' ratings??

  • @mancavemoto

    @mancavemoto

    6 жыл бұрын

    Suan Pailom Coffee Roasting Thanks, yep that’s certainly a benefit of the flip lid. The helmet is too new for a SHARP rating, but the old Neotec is a four star, I would assume this is probably higher. It’s also one of the only modular helmets that has a CE rating in both the closed AND open positions

    They are not interchangeable however you will find the cheek pads to be less snug on the 2 in the same size helmet. Shoei is using 4 distinct shell sizes in the Neo2 while the original Neo used 3 so it was common for the cheek pads to be too tight.

    Sure Bill, both wheels can come out without the need to remove the brake calipers. The rear wheel only needs a selection of spanners/sockets, the front requires a 17mm allen key (hex). Remember to take the spacers out of each wheel so they don't get lost! Then just take the wheels as they stand to the tyre place...

    Modular helmets are particularly good for touring, easy for fuel stops or to take the occasional photo etc. I do like the Shoei brand and particularly the Shoei X spirit 3 or NXR depending on your budget. I think Shoei will be my next choice for a full face and would be a consideration against the Schuberth if I was in the market for a modular.

    Hi Zunaid, I haven't reviewed the Scuberth C4, but when talking to the guys at Motolegends they said the C3 was actually a better helmet than the C4. There have apparently been some issues with the C4 misting up. You can read that here www.motolegends.com/shoei-neotec-2-helmet-review-editorial

    I have the C4 with the Sena SC1 built in comms. It was the first non Shoei helmet I ever bought. I have been very disappointed with the C4 for the following reasons: 1. The visor will not stay up/open at speeds above 80kph. 2. When the chin guard is open/up, it is not in a locked position. Riding off road can cause the chin guard to come down on it's own and block your vision. 3. The front vent cover has fallen off. I don't have any comments on the comms as I only listen to music mainly. I'm seriously considering ditching the C4 and going back to Shoei.

I am going by what most reviewers are recommending. When I put the c4 on it was like my head was transported into a 7 star hotel. I am coming from a bmw systems 7 helmet. So I can't compare it to a shoei cause I never worn one. Anyway it feel good and I feel good having the latest on the market. At least here in SA.

  • @meremail

    @meremail

    I recently bought a System 7 after much show room analysis, and with the help of sales staff selected a size L which is the largest size in the smallest shell. This means it has the thinnest padding. Subsequently the helmet gives me a headache which I have been able to reduce slightly, but at the end of the day the helmet doesn't seem to be a comfortable fit for my head shape. I like to ride with the visor open and it doesn't have a firm upper position lock like my old HJC, so the visor will slam shut when least expected. Functionally, I like the modular, but I have decided it will be a Shoei Neotec 2 or Schuberth, but Schuberth isn't sold in Australia so maybe my planned UK trip will offer the opportunity. So good point to consider for any helmet is shell/padding sizes. With mine, no extra padding can be fitted.

    @@mancavemoto I tried this but I found the chin strap was way too short, even adjusted to its longest it was still too tight on my throat. Don't see why they couldn't have made the strap an inch longer.

    I have worn the NEO tsch and the Neotech 2 for 50 thousand miles each. I went down and smacked the side of my head into the pavement with a whack with no effect and barley felt it their superior product

    Good question, and I did compare the two but didn’t put it in the video. I thought it would, but actually the Neotec II looks a little smaller if anything. That might be down to the darker colour? But I was expecting the opposite

    My problem with all these kind of reviews and certainly about the pricey helmets is "all the reviews are the(say) same, there conclusions are all the same ,be they will be reviewing the Shuberths or Showy, Aria or whatever,,,,they all say how well made they are .and how can you live without them!!!! its all the same!!! just sayin

    I think that just shows that if you’re spending a decent amount of money on a helmet, it’s hard to buy a bad one. It all comes down to personal preferences
