Semi vs Prius w/Body In-Roadway | DIAMOND BAR, CA 5.1.22

‪@randysr18‬ DIAMOND BAR, CALIFORNIA - CHP and LACOFD along with LASD responded to a traffic collision involving a big rig eastbound 60 freeway at the 57 freeway split. CHP dispatch was receiving multiple 911 calls of the big rig on fire. Once firefighters and officers arrived on scene they located a semi on the right shoulder of the 60 fwy, not on fire, with a black Prius down the embankment and a female in the slow lane of the eastbound 60 freeway non-responsive. Firefighters and paramedics pronounce the female dead on scene. One male was transported to a local hospital in unknown condition. Unknown at this time how the crash occurred. CHP has only carpool and fast lane open. It appears the female was ejected from the Prius.

Okay I don’t have a problem hypothesizing. They’re approaching the off ramp so it’s possible she saw she needed to move over quickly so she didn’t miss her exit and in her haste she didn’t see him coming from behind and he didn’t have time to stop. Or it’s possible that he was distracted and didn’t realize she had slowed down for the off ramp and he smacked her from behind. Could be a combo of her moving over fast, him going way too fast, leaving no room for error between them. For the truck driver’s sake, I hope he wasn’t the at fault driver. You can see he’s torn up.

Maybe he called his wife for support. It appears they’ve been there awhile and wrapping up, but maybe his truck isn’t drivable and needs a tow. You don’t get to decide how people react…that’s how it works. You react how you react and leave others to react to trauma the way they do.

@@floveymcdaniels8118 So him texting someone after what he’s just been through means he’s an asshole? Lucky for you, you’ve never been at a crash scene with a fatality and have zero appreciation for how long it takes and what emotional torture it is to see a mangled up body that was a healthy human being with no problems a few seconds ago. Stuff like that is hard enough on first responders and they have time to prepare themselves for what they’re about to witness but if you’re just a regular old civilian that was doing business as usual and out of nowhere, chaos like this happens, it’s traumatic af. You don’t know what he was looking at on his phone, but he would’ve needed to provide all of the info on his company to the police. But even still, do you really think you’d be at a scene like that, having been involved in a crash that killed one person instantly and you’ve just watched them extract a second person and load him into an ambulance and after you’ve spoken to police, you wouldn’t reach out to someone you know? I don’t see an asshole for that, I see someone who’s going through something horrible and is looking for some kind of familiar human connection.

Guys, get it right. I said “EITHER he’s an asshole or in shock?” My comment stands. He was on camera for longer than just a few seconds and the look on his face/body language was that of someone who looks inconvenienced. Why do people always do that when someone comments on their comment. “I’m allowed to have an opinion!” Yeah, so are the people who are disagreeing with you. To me, it was the way his shoulders looked weighed down and how slowly he walked when he did move and where he stood the entire time, that signalled to me, that this was a heavy situation for him. You can be in shock because you understand the gravity of what has just happened.

Okay, I'll take a guess as to what happened. - Prius cut in real close to front of semi - got hit in right rear quarter panel (P.I.T. style, confirmed by minimal front end damage to semi) - caused Prius to spin sideways, then catching driver side tires and flipping several times (as indicated by debris field) - Unbelted female occupant was ejected during "barrel roll", momentum carried her down the road from the initial impact and subsequent roll. - Prius continued on it's trajectory towards overpass support column.

DIAMOND BAR - The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office sought additional details and asked law enforcement for further investigation into a fatal crash that killed a pedestrian. 23-year-old Daniel Salazar was accused of DUI driving May 1 and crashing his 2007 Toyota Prius into a stalled 2012 International Truck Tractor and a woman standing on the right shoulder of the eastbound 60 freeway east of Brea Canyon Road. Salazar, a Pomona man, was booked at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Walnut Station. The case against him was rejected. He was detained only and he was released May 3 at 10:44 p.m., according to Los Angeles County booking records. “On May 3, we asked law enforcement for further investigation,” according to Ricardo Santiago, public information officer with the DA’s office. Santiago did not elaborate further. Ana Cruz-Sanchez, a 29-year-old Rialto woman, was standing on the right front side of the semi. The Prius struck Cruz and the right front side of the semi after drifting onto the shoulder, according to the California Highway Patrol. Cruz died of blunt force trauma at the scene. Her death was ruled accidental, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. The CHP believes alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. Salazar was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital medical Center with minor injuries.

The woman killed was the truck driver. She was standing in front of the truck when the driver of the Prius struck them both. The Prius driver is the male at the end of the video who's being taken to the hospital. He's been arrested for DUI.

Condolences to the deceased members family. Hugs to those who survived. The one thing that really bothered me in this video is the deceased laying there, even though covered up, was in the open for passerby's to see. I wish they pulled the police vehicle there right away to block the view.

Considering the lack of damage to the front of the truck, and where the car is, it looks like the car probably cut the truck off, and the truck wasn't able to stop in time.

My heart aches for the surviving man from the Prius, as he gets wheeled right by the woman that he may have loved on some level or at the very least, had befriended. And there she is lifeless on the ground as they hoist him into the ambulance and he must see her one last time, silhouetted under a blanket with her lower arm exposed. Ugh. And worst, the magnitude of it all probably hasn't sunk in yet.

people with the big pickup mentality is the reason gas is 4.50 gallon. did you know mileage standards for almost all SUVs, no matter the size, are classed as trucks? so strict gov't standards wont enforce better mileage minimums. if we got smaller again and we didn't need gas hogs for what we think we need, supply and demand would drive the price back down
