They really do. Not sure where you're based or if you'd be at all interested, but in all seriousness, the Cigar Cutter in the above video is for sale. Let me know via my website (in description) if you want to talk more. Sorry if that sounds a bit presumptuous! Otherwise, glad you enjoyed the sound in the video :)

Lovely! It's always good to hear you play and I'm in awe at your skill on the saxophone and indeed, any instrument! I liked the first one better, can't really explain why... 😃

As i hear it, the Cutter's tone peaks about 2 partials higher than the 6M's. That's the core - a higher frequency. Its there on the 6M too, but its delicate. The midrange core on the 6M is not nearly so prominent on the Cutter.

Both good! I would go for that Conn. But I of course would want to own both!

Hard for me to express a preference here, Tim. Both horns have their unique & wonderful vintage characteristics. The Selmer produces a lighter/airier sound to me that can be just a bit "abrasive" at times (not criticizing). The Conn seems more focused, although darker in tone. Like them both. Thanks for sharing!

Well, the most important thing is whether you like it! If it feels good to you, then you’re well on the way. I have to say that all the vintage Besucher’s I’ve played have been great. As far as my experience goes, they’ve got better than average intonation than most other old horns... and have a really nice ‘cross between American and French’ thing going on. Do check the intonation though... one vintage horn can vary a lot compared to another of the same model/year etc. Might be worth trying a Beuscher Aristocrat too... those altos are great.

This is a ‘classic’ series from the 1950s. Slightly different to the jazz series.

I think it’s the same or similar mouthpiece that CP played on Bird with Strings. Sounds excellent. Ted Klum has a Yardbird model based on it. 👍

Hard to say. I’ve had the Selmer a fairly long time & I’m quite sentimentally attached to it, so it’s probably the one I’d struggle to let go of more. I also tend to record with it as it has a little extra top end to the tone which works well in the studio. Live, though, I tend to use the Conn - something about the combination between the in-your-face dry/dark sound that it has in the room (hard to capture on 1 mic!) and the incredibly tight and responsive action. But it’s a close run thing - they’re both great, with incredible projection as good as any other model I’ve tried.

I think sometimes it really does boil down to that attachment you have for an instrument. I always end up going back to my old favorites. Thanks for the reply and thanks for the videos.

Selmer sounds brighter to me! Sometimes brightness is needed. -I'm looking for an alto suitable for playing lead in big band and right now there seems to be one Selmer sigar cutter for sale in the region.
