My father had given me his silver plated gold bell 6M when I decided I wanted to play the saxophone, and I've had it since 1964, the horn itself from 1939. Still to this day, the best sounding horn I've ever played, and I've played many as I used to sell saxophones for a living. Call me biased, but the Conn has always been a magic horn for me. You do it justice. This horn is made to sing

Here l sit , post pandemic, and your magnificent stylings bring me back to the safety and magic of summers spent in a lakeside isolated cottage in northern Ontario Canada, wood stove crackling, fireplace roaring, Lake Koshlong as still and smooth as glass, with two wonderfully, fatally flawed humans for parents, the magic of the Northern Lights, and the never ending classic jazz stylings of all the best of the best. ...my folks would have been as astounded then as l am now by this sax player.

Every day good musicians, play videos without background track. I have 6M and Ref 54. don't know which I prefer. Sax should always be accompanied by spectacular background; I don't care how good each of you are! Thanks for the song, you and the 6M are shown in the best spotlight here. Sounds like a dream!

Wow. I always loved this song but forgot about it. Had not touched my alto since 1998. In my on line group a student like me (I'M retired):UK trained) played it and I immediately looked for the sheet music. They say find 3 people , whose sound you like, who play a song and listen to it a few times. Wow. 20 times already because of embellishments and your feeling for the piece. This is a hell of a performance with a lot of heart in it. Inspirational and motivational. I played it 10 times but lack the embellishment and solos....but with this as a guide I am focused. With 3 hours practice a day....I've been avoiding songs and doing the pentatonics with the metronome hoping one day to be able to stand confident like you and perform,. Thank you for sharing. It is my daily piece. Until then I feel lucky to have easy access to it.

Yes, lot's of tenor recordings around... There's a lovely alto recording by Sonny Criss on 'This is Criss', though. Well worth a listen. Thanks for your compliments. I agree it sits really nicely on alto.

@@tbonijazz I’ve had few horns, but my go to alto is some brand called Classic, made in Czechoslovakia. I acquired it when I lived in East Europe, but it’s getting very old and it’s still a student model like all the others I have played, so I was due an upgrade. I do have a decent collection of MPs. Vintage MC Gregory and Berg Larsen are my favorites. Can’t wait to test them on M6, I’ll let you know how it goes. Thanks for replying Tim, I appreciate it. Cheers!

@@tbonijazz I finally got her back from a shop. Paired well with Brilhart rubber and Otto Links metal (I think similar to what you play on). It definitely takes time to get used to, but sounds so sweet. I can’t seem to play 3rd octave F# though (concert A). Does the 6M have different fingering for high octaves and altissimo? I can’t find any info online. Thanks Tim!

@@JosephAraza Sounds great - I'm really glad you're enjoying it. I've always used pretty standard altissimo fingerings for my Conns, but there's always more than one option for all these notes. I would look up an altissimo chart that gives you a few options to try, and see which one works best for you. Some of this comes down to the player rather than the horn.

Thanks Jasper. I'm glad you enjoyed it. The mouthpiece is an 'Florida' Otto Link Super Tone Master (no 'USA' stamp, so earlier Florida era), 7*. It's a really lovely piece.

What case do you use for your 6M? I'm having a lot of trouble finding a case that fits the 6M well.

I love it! Been playing a 271,000 6M for years. What mouthpiece are you using? Looks like a Lawton, which I used on my Conn for many years

Hi Ed, what HR do you use. I tried mine with vintage MC Gregory and a $75 dollar Brilhart ebolini. MC was more vibrant but ebolini really impressed me with a real vintage dark soft tone.

@@JosephAraza -- Thanks for the inquiry! I have used a Kessler Music Custom 50/50 NY Meyer for a # of years. Had some minor refacing done by Eric Falcon 5-7 years back. Kessler does have a trail usage program. The mpc is now referred to as the Kessler Custom NY Short Shank Pro Jazz model. They can be found online as Kessler & Sons Music. Let me know what you decide; always interesting to follow other sax buddies regarding setups.

BTW, a month ago found the e flat version in the real book. Also had on hand a Hal Leonard backing track so i am back in business!!

nice! but we get a better sense of your sound without all the affects.
