Repairman's Overview: Conn 6M "Transitional" Alto Saxophone (restoration of deleted video from 2011)

Музыка

This is a re-upload of a video originally from 2011.
Saxophone repairman Matt Stohrer of www.StohrerMusic.com was young once and made this video back in 2011, before accidentally deleting it thanks to a short-lived KZread app UI bug where you could fully and permanently delete one of your own videos with one click when you were trying to remove it from a playlist. But what was lost has been found, in original 720p quality, which was pretty fancy for 2011.
Also here is an article from 2012 on my website that has lots more detail and examples: www.stohrermusic.com/2012/10/...

Beautiful instruments and with a lot of history... I just wish I could see the details in higher resolution at at least 1080p. That would be wonderful. Thanks for posting. Greetings from Brazil

The reason we don't have info direct from Conn is that the company was sold in 1970, the HQ moved, and the archives were incinerated. (Ironically, the new owner was an educational publishing company.) Anything we've been able to piece together about Conn instruments from before that time has come from company sales literature, and of course, study of the instruments themselves.

Matt, do you happen to know if there was ever a transitional with the Art Deco engraving, but with the 6m pinkie cluster?

Matt..Really enjoy your channel. A friend was cleaning out his attic and came across one of these horns. Serial# M245685. Also on the Neck is No1308903. I was wondering if this horn is worth repairing or selling? I am a tenor player Selmer Super Action 80 series 1. The Conn does need some work but the body seems great and the neck looks good. Thanks again for a great channel!!

I have one made between these and it's a a great saxophone. One issue- the high B goes ~40c flat but the middle B is fine. Any ideas what could cause this? Local repair shops seem to not know much about vintage saxophones.

Typically large octave differentials stem from incorrect key heights and/resulting from a mouthpiece that doesn't match well with the player/horn combination. It's a complex system that can be hard to diagnose!
