My dad was a jazz aficionado and he loved Sade.
I was at this gig, in fact I even made it to the afternoon soundcheck before the actual concert, I wanted to make sure I got a front row seat! However, now I realize the young and not-enough-aware version of me didn't properly understand this miracle here. Probably felt the vibe, yes, but today I am _listening_ at last! Thanks for posting!

Memorable playing, that's for sure. But from these guys, we've come to expect this level of musicianship.

@@cooltrades7469 Cracks/no cracks, it doesn't matter. I like it that it's slightly different from the original. It's jazz after all and it's no less a masterful performance.
Dr. Hancock is a National Treasure.
This is beyond belief ensemble playing.
The interplay between Scofield and Herbie is exceptional, the way Herbie echoes Scofield’s phrases while ever intruding on Scoflield’s solo.
Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette part of the rhythm section as well
What a band...Jack de Johnette ripping it! Dave Holland unmovable on that acoustic bass!!! Daaaamn

Sade is a classy singer and I like her voice and performance. Don't know how she is doin right now...I hope well!! What a great version of a great song performed by the best musicians...All Masters!!
There is something about Herbies’ approach that really sets him apart from all other players, the constant innovation, playing outside keys , those lush harmonics…and that’s just from me , a drummer, then there’s Scofield, every bands’ dream guitarist, and Jack , such musicality….

At 1:05 Herbie had not considered Jeff Beck as a truly innovative, powerful influence on the type of guitar playing he speaks of. Of course, Jimi was incredible, but as early as the mid '60s, Jeff started to explore that sound (as well as all those 'effects', etc.) and influenced many guitarists for generations ever since, including even Jimi to some extent. When Chas Chandler first brought Jimi to England (where he quickly became famous with his band 'The Experience'), Jimi expressed a great desire to meet Jeff immediately. Jeff probably didn't get the recognition he so well deserved likely because of his desire to stick with mostly 'instrumental' (in fact 'fusion') music, for so many decades.
@JazzVideoGuy
Жыл бұрын
Jeff Beck's playing was in a class of its own.
Herbie is one of the all time Jazz greats. However, I'm shocked that he didn't mention Les Paul in regards to the formation of R'N'R. Sure, Hendrix was an innovator but Mr. Paul INVENTED the instrument he chose to make that statement with and multitrack recording which was used to record, arguably, Hendrix's biggest hit 'Purple Haze'. I'm always astounded at how many amazing musicians fail to recognize that man's invaluable contributions to music including his albums.
