It's time to start securing our off-grid homestead. With people becoming more curious of "what's down that road, we spend some time this week putting up a gate, meeting our new neighbors, and continuing the renovations on our tiny home camper.

I appreciate the "giving thanks" segment. Believe it or not, we should all be thankful for "hard work." It is a gift to be able to work at something and see the fruit of your labor. One day, it will be out of your reach, and you'll wish you were young again just so you could enjoy another day of hard work.!

You guys are Awesome! To share a little bit about me……I’m an older woman (61) now living full time in my 32ft Toy Hauler RV. I’ve been blessed to find a wonderful RV Park right on a lake in beautiful upper central Florida. Those of us that live in the park full time are a Family and everyone looks out for one another. So, I am safe and happy. Which is so important to me since losing my husband and mother not even a year apart very suddenly and unexpectedly. Watching the two of you build a wonderful homestead on the “Ranch” inspires me to get my butt in gear to finish/start the many projects I have planned for my RV, Me and my “Sunnie” (my four legged baby) haha….plus all the neighborhood stray cats I feed. I’m so glad you don’t allow the negative comments stop you from sharing your journey with us! Thank You for allowing us “watchers” to be a part of your life. I’ve only been watching you guys for a few months, however, in that short time I’ve grown to love both of you! Wishing you a very Happy Blessed Thanksgiving! GOD Bless. Mel. ❤️🙏 🦃

Never too old. I lost my home of 40 years to electrical fire March 2021 , lost 2 dogs, kitten and 2 hens that were being treated. 3 of my sons dogs and my girl survived, he breeds Siberian husky’s. I grabbed the first apartment that allowed dogs for my son to be released from hospital-, he got burned on his back 😢 thanking GOD he healed well and is now back to work 🙏 From in the woods to in town, my dog and I were so depressed that first winter- I bought a camper mainly to take the girls up when they were in heet, and used my time to clean up gla

Ooops. clean up glass insulation etc. 🥰😊🐾 We we’re NO longer depressed. We were HOME. Went back to the apartment last winter- same thing- depressed so we came BACK up home in April, brought more things each trip in town and AM STILL HERE 👍. There IS a temporary power meter for ripping down what’s left of my little house. Estimated at $15000 to tear down SO I’ll do it coz I don’t have that kinda money. 😳. I’m working on trying to get a wood stove that’ll fit as mine is too big, won’t fit anyways, I set my alarm fir 4:30 am and turn on a heater and it’s nice and toasty getting up to take Sorcha out to pee in the colder mornings - it’s very small- easy to heat but I MISS my wood fire. I bake, cook, have a twin tube washer spin dryer - still only on sunny days as my clothesline is my means of drying things. Beats wringing them out by hand. I got extra data on my iPhone, and brought my TV that plays DVDs, I’m happy- I’m content, LOVE the solitude the woods country offers and this is where I’ll stay ♥️🙏. I go into town the once a month when my pension comes and stock up 👍. I’ll be 65 in January so,, go for it my friend,, 🤗😊👍. Just be sure to have a phone for emergencies

Later you might want to put an automatic gate opener on your gate. Try purchasing one called " The Mule " . The cost is just a little more but you will not have to change it once or twice a year like cheaper ones. Also silicon all plastic areas make use it have a drain place for water even if you have to drill a hole in the bottom area so water can get out. It doesn't take much money to add a small battery and solar panel to power the gate.

The Gate is a great idea. I put a No Trespassing sign on mine. So many homesteaders now have pee pews so it is a real deterrent for uninvited guests !! Get ya 4-5 chickens, a Rooster and 2 Turkey Hens and A Gobbler. That way they can breed. Get a couple of Silkie Hens as they always go broody and make great incubators. I have ducks too - very sustainable. My Runner Ducks lay eggs year round with an occasional Moult. I have one Doe goat and one Buck that usually breed in October and kid in March. They are mini Nubians - no so small - but after the kids are 8 weeks old, we sell em and I start hand milking. We are in the woods of N Central FL in a cabin. Only 2 acres - moved here 8 years ago at ages 56 & 57 - designed this small cypress log cabin - but not off grid. Yet -as we all may be off grid when the SH*T hits the fan. Watch out for bears and other predators. And watch out for those few bad people. Wishing you all the best!!

If I ever got the chance to do this I would completely fence my land and have great gates and surveillance cameras!

It is not my intention to add to your "to do" list but think about developing a trail around your property so you can get out and take a break from the work. We only have 9 acres of wooded property but I have a 1/2 mile trail cut out that goes from corner to corner. When the projects get over whelming or you just need a break, it is a nice little walk. Your friends can have a trail on their property and they can be joined for a longer trail!

Looks just like my gate! I use a SpeeCo Genuine Two Way Lockable Gate Latch with a lock . It was low cost and shuts very easy and convenient.
