Secret Hidden Gem of Madeira - Doca Do Cavacas - Natural Rock Pool Lido

Hey everyone, and welcome to my KZread channel! I'm your host, James, and I'm here to share my love of travel and culture with you. Today, I'm going to be taking you to a hidden secret little gem in Madeira, which is an easy walk from Funchal. It's called Doca do Cavacas, and it's a natural rockpool lido that's absolutely stunning. You will walk past all the really busy Lido's on your way but be sure not to miss the entrance during your walk.
REVIEW
Doca do Cavacas is located just a short walk from Praia Formosa, one of the most popular beaches in Funchal. But unlike Praia Formosa, Doca do Cavacas is a much more secluded spot. The lido is made up of a series of natural rock pools that are filled with seawater. The water is crystal clear, and the views of Cabo Girao are simply breathtaking.
I visited Doca do Cavacas on a hot summer day, and it was the perfect place to cool off. The water was refreshingly cool, and the sun was shining brightly. I spent the afternoon swimming, sunbathing, and exploring the rock pools. It was the perfect way to relax and enjoy the beauty of Madeira.
INSIGHT
If you're looking for a hidden gem in Madeira, Doca do Cavacas is definitely worth checking out. It's a beautiful spot that's not too far from Funchal, but it's still relatively unknown to tourists. Here are a few tips for visiting Doca do Cavacas:
- The best time to visit is during the summer months, when the weather is warm and sunny.
- Take your snorkelling and flipper gear so you can see the amazing fish in the ocean, the water is so clear with ots to see.
- The lido is open from 9am to 6pm, so be sure to arrive early to avoid the crowds.
- There is a small entrance fee of €5.50, but it's well worth it.
- There is an amazing seafood restaurant which is part of it, so you can grab a bite to eat before or after your visit. They will issue you a blue wrist band to leave and re-enter.
I hope you enjoyed this video travel guide to Doca do Cavacas. If you're planning a trip to Madeira, be sure to add this hidden gem to your list!

@@WyldStallion-bs9oo there might be something, as each lido seems to be part of the same company/ scheme and you see lots a kids/ schools in the busier ones. There is a website for them all, so sure you can find out. I’ve also done more videos and covered a coastal walk showing another couple of Lido around Funchal. I think there are about 6 in total. Hope this helps. We go every year

@@BakeAcrossEuropeMadeira is quite a small island out in the Atlantic Ocean and not well known for people leaving, other than Ronaldo. It is incredibly beautiful and there is so much to do. I’ve also covered walks & food markets

Question. Why would anyone pay to enter when they can just swim over from the beach? I’m always of the philosophy if it’s by the sea it should be open access. Too many French and Italian coastlines are pay per use access. So much so that I always go out of my way to swim to the parts where you have to pay.

I understand your point but they have facilities and it’s peace of mind. It would also be too busy. I’m currently finding this with an open water swimming near where I live. Also, it creates jobs and brings money into that community, so I’m not too bothered about paying £4-5 per day
