Plum & Apple Szechuan Pepper Fruit Leather | How to Dehydrate Fruit | Ninja Air Fryer & Dehydrator

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hi everyone, and welcome to my channel! Today I'm going to be showing you how to make a delicious and healthy plum and apple fruit leather recipe, infused with Szechuan pepper. This recipe is influenced by the wonderful 'a Year at Otter Farm' by Mark Diacono, which is amazing book based on seasonal, natural and foraged ingredients.
This is Vegan/ Whole Food Plant Based (WFPB) and is a great alternative to sweets, and it's also a lot of fun to make with your family and children.
Fruit leather is a great way to preserve fruit and enjoy it all year round. It's also a healthy snack or dessert option. This recipe is made with plums and apples, but you can use any fruit you like. The Szechuan pepper gives the fruit leather a unique and punchy flavour that you'll love.
I really enjoyed making this recipe. It was easy to follow, and the results were delicious. The fruit leather was chewy and flavorful, and the Szechuan pepper gave it a nice kick. I would definitely recommend this recipe to anyone looking for a healthy and delicious snack or dessert option.
INGREDIENTS
7-800g plums, pitted and diced
6-700g apples (4-5), diced
1-2 teaspoon Szechuan peppercorns
100ml date molases or maple syrup or honey
1 lime or lemon (juiced and zest)
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Preheat your ninja airfryer or oven to 60-70 degrees (155 F).
2. In a blender or food processor, combine the plums, apples, Szechuan peppercorns, and lemon juice. Blend until smooth.
3. Pour the fruit mixture into a dehydrator tray or sheet lined with parchment paper.
4. Dehydrate the fruit leather for 6-8 hours, or until it is dry and leathery.
5. Once the fruit leather is dry, cut it into strips or shapes and enjoy!
TIPS
You can use any fruit you like in this recipe. Some other good options include berries, peaches, apricots and pears.
If you don't have a dehydrator, you can also make fruit leather in the oven.
Be sure to let the fruit leather cool completely before cutting it into strips or shapes. This will help it hold its shape.
I hope you enjoy this recipe!

What a fun way to use your beautiful plums! I definitely remember fruit leather. I loved the healthier versions even as a kid but I definitely had the roll up versions that probably had much more sugar than fruit 🤣I watched a video a few days ago on food52 with Erin Jeanne McDowell making fruit leather so now that I've seen your video it's like the universe is encouraging me to make some with a big batch of peaches I was just gifted. Great to see both the air fryer and oven versions. I like your graphics too and I'm looking forward to the cauliflower recipe!

Kathryn, thanks so much for your wonderful & genuine feedback, this means the world to me. Completely refuelled my passion for doing my videos! I’m intrigued with the Food52 video, so going to watch now. Let me know how you get on with your juicy peaches 🍑 😜 I’m trying to think of a complimentary herb or spice 🤔 Thanks for your encouragement, as always. James x

What a cool recipe James! I've never heard of fruit "leather" before, but I do remember having Fruit Winders as a kid 😂 These look much nicer though!! I think these could be a wonderful dessert recipe, will try to do it before summer is over!

Thanks Ryan! Thought this would appeal to the plumage & foraging season. I always cover a recipe every year & try something innovative. I’ve actually made some more of this tonight, including greengages. It’s also healthier than most other sweets and it’s WFPB. I watched that documentary you recommended last night, which was interesting. Be good to get some honest feedback on my videos, as I want to improve 👍🏼

Hibs. My mum makes fruit leathers annually for decades. In Aussie they sold them as kids fruit dried strips. Excellente.

Yum!! I remember growing up eating them and I loved them. I get them for my boys from time to time from Trader Joe's when we're near one. I never thought to make them myself, but now I'll have to consider.😁 Is the pepper a necessity or is it more for flavor? Thanks for sharing James, wonderful as always!👍🏽😊

I’ve just looked at the cookbook and it just says ‘pre-heat the oven to 70 C/ Gas very low’. Place in oven for 8-10 hours, until it’s tacky but not sticky, so you can peel away. Hope this helps. You’ve reminded me to make this again, it’s a brilliant recipe

It’s actually a nice healthy snack, you might be surprised! I’ve got the hang of KZread shorts now, found a way of converting videos but ultimately need to have two cameras, like you had your setup. Will be releasing a short for this on Saturday morning. Also doing videos for Instagram & TikTok, but it’s all a bit of a slog to be honest. Trying to bring out my personality a bit which I prefer in longer videos. Hope you’re well buddy 😜🙏🏼
