Ойындар

I built this 28mm stone barn using foam core and das air dry clay. I plan to use it for Bolt Action and Warhammer Fantasy terrain.

    Wow Dan this is amazing work! You say it’s not perfect but with the attention to detail it’s more perfect then anything you would ever buy in my opinion. The sculpting is excellent. Since your doing a number of these projects if your ever interested in trying something other than Das clay I would highly recommend Apoxie Sculpt. Mainly because I have found air dry natural clays to be less durable to bumps and falls etc. I know you keep your stuff at home so maybe not an issue. However I find Apoxie sculpt behaves like a natural clay when sculpting but hardens like a synthetic which I prefer. Anyway something to think about. Cheers

    Thanks Palmer. It was fun to push my skills a bit and be able to make a unique piece that was of my own design. I remember you using Apoxie Sculpt for that tower you made. I am not familiar with the product, but should give it a look. As you said, I do not plan to haul my terrain around, but I still want it to be sturdy. I should do a little Apoxie Sculpt recon before starting my next one. Thanks for the suggestion!

While we were there, we toured the Jameson Distillery. Jameson with ginger ale and lime has become my drink of choice in the evenings ever since. My daughter gave me the Jameson sign for Christmas this year for my man cave. Would it be easier to etch the stonework into xps foam rather than using clay? Just wondering as I’m going to attempt to scratch build terrain soon.

  • @danbuman8422

    @danbuman8422

    9 ай бұрын

    It probably would be easier in xps foam. I didn’t have any on hand and I have never used it for terrain before so I was more comfortable with the clay, which is super cheap. I have a terrain book describing the process and I follow a gentleman in the UK that makes buildings for war gaming this way on commission and have been blown away with the results he achieves. I wanted to give it a try myself. I found it to be intuitive and enjoyable. I like the heft that the clay provides and I think as my skills improve, extremely realistic results could be achieved. I would say for very large pieces, like a castle, foam might be batter. If you have xps foam readily available and are interested in going that route, give it a try! Both mediums can give very good results. Good luck with your project!!

  • @TheJankmaster

    Looks great man...did you say you glued the clay to the foam core? The pva glue attaches the clay to the wall/floor, or do you apply it and let it dry to give the surface mor “purchase” for the clay to grab on to?

  • @danbuman8422

    Thanks Rob! I apply the PVA to the foam core and then, while the glue is still wet, I apply the clay on top of the glue. This creates a strong bond between the foam core and the clay. Hope that made sense :)
