Back in the day 3 of my friends played Warhammer Fantasy with me. I went Blood Dragon Vampires (and Secondary Green Skins), one went Vampire Counts Lahmia (blegh), one went Wood Elfs, and the last went Bretonnia. I almost went Bretonnian, but the idea of feudal lord vampire in plate mail with men at arms wights and cavalry knights was too much to pass up. I almost went Bretonnian for my love of King Arthur and the stories of the Knights of the Round Table. I was excited to see my friends armies big reveal when we fought, and I was so disappointed. Zero effort, love or care was put in to it, but I kept my mouth shut. Ever since then I wanted to start a Bretonnian army, but I've never had the chance. Glad to see someone doing the lads of the lady proud. Great work.

Thank you! It was the Arthurian legends that drew me to the 5th edition Bretonnians as well. The lore frim that edition is deeply rooted in those legends and the sculpts by the Perrys really spoke to that as well. I did not have the time. money or painting skill back then to do them justice, so my Bretonnian collection grew slowly over 20 years and remained in boxes and unpainted. Now I am at the point in my life where I am able to fulfil my dream of a painted 5th edition Bretonnian army. It has been a true labor of love. Thanks again for watching and commenting :)

Great looking unit Dan they came out fantastic. I feel the same way about my beastmen when it comes to taking my time painting them. Maybe we will see more Bretonians this fall 😃

I have never actually played a game of Warhammer Fantasy in any edition, so I am hoping to learn some of the game play by watching the live streams on his channel. I bought the 5th edition starter set back in the day and never played. Finally digging my old stuff out to get it painted up and give it a try. I've been dreaming about this for over 20 years!!

I always especially enjoy these Bretonnian episodes of yours. Is the idea for the project to exclusively contain oldhammer figures? If not the style and depictions of the figures match almost exactly the Foundry Barons' War and HYW ranges that you could probably save by purchasing those rather than trying to source discontinued ranges.

Thanks Ralph! I think most people like my AWI miniatures more, but I love doing these as well. Always wanted to pursue this project so I am really enjoying it. I have managed to collect the full 5th edition range over the past 20 years and I am trying to initially keep it GW 5th for nostalgic reasons. I do have a few of the Foundry miniatures, which were also sculpted by the Perry brothers. I plan to add them to the army eventually. You are correct about how well they match. I have some Black Tree Designs medievals and they also match well. Thanks for your continuing support!

These are some of my favourite Warhammer miniatures of the older range, and I enjoy watching your project coming along. Very well painted! I am inspired by the way you have based them, may I ask what you used for their bases? :)

Thanks for the kind words! I fell in love with these Bretonnian sculpts when they came out and I think they have stood the test of time. The individual bases are done by glueing on a mixed sand(mix of fine and coarse). I actually glue it on before priming so that it is done and the primer helps seal it in. I then paint a dark brown on the base, followed by two dry brushings of two lighter browns. I then glue on woodland scenics fine turf blend grass. Finally a few grass tufts and flowers are added that I purchase to add a little more interest. Hope that answers your question!
