This is an excellent short. It starts & seems to end in nearly the same place. Along the way, we learn about the main characters plight. In nearly the same way he does. It's mind boggling to think of traveling that far into space & the effects it would have on the travelers. This is a good story on so many levels 👏

@@BlakeRidder Excellent film, compact, rich presentation. Also a definition of Hell.
A really impressive story line, silky smooth acting, beautiful timing and delicious colouring - thank you all for your talent.
The premise of Mark's memory wipe in this video reminds me of an old story: A man opened his eyes & found himself alongside a forest path, sitting on a tree trunk that had long since fallen over. He didn't know where he came from, where he's was going, how far he'd gone already (but it must have been quite a distance because he was tired). Thinking about his situation further, he realized that he didn't even remember his name, his age, where he lived. Then he heard the scratchy-sounding voice of a woman, which startled him a bit..."So now, what is your third wish?" When he first opened his eyes his head was bowed while he was thinking & trying to remember but now he raised his head to see a withered old crone standing nearby. Quickly taking in his situation, he asked the crone "What do you mean by my 'third wish?' How could it be my third wish if I hadn't used the first two?" The crone replies, "After you got your first wish, you wished for everything to return to the state it was *before* your first wish. So that was your second wish & you don't remember either of them because even your memory was returned to the same state as it was. So now you only have one wish remaining." This confused the man because he could scarcely believe what the crone was saying. After all, he didn't believe in magic or have any superstitions to speak of. But his curiosity was piqued & he decided to see if the crone really could fulfill a person's wishes. "Alright," he said, "I wish to know who I am & why I'm here." "That's funny," the crone cackles just a moment before fulfilling his wish & disappearing forever..."That was your *first* wish." 😱

@@jessehemphill4905 The man forgot who he is (amnesia) so his 1st wish was to regain all of his missing memories; apparently, he was a really bad boy with lots of regrets. He hated knowing that so much that his 2nd wish was to reverse the effects of the 1st wish, including giving him amnesia again. Since he'd forgotten what his 1st & 2nd wishes were, he repeated his 1st wish. Now he has no more wishes & can't reverse it any more. Now he's suffering with the knowledge that caused him to wish for amnesia...

Agree totally! Great story well told.
Very very cool story line. Scripting was realistic with a solid cadence. The tech wasn’t too outlandish that it couldn’t be possible in the near future. The acting was excellent. (I feel like there is fine line when acting in an AI role - either super stiff and detached or going totally robot rouge without any mechanical inclination). The AI barkeep and AI wife/bar hostess found a very convincing medium. The captain played panic, confusion, discovery and finally defeated resignation to a ‘T’. Thanks for sharing!

I really enjoyed it. An intriguing story that kept you watching. Very slick direction that was unobtrusive and calm which enhanced the sense of control by the AI's in contrast to the 'captains' state of confusion. The impressive lighting gave great depth. The lead was very good, underplaying something that would have been internally frightening gave it more power. Great work all round.

China’s modern and contemporary history shows how dramatically Mao’s revolutionary practice had changed the nation that is currently a major superpower. This is one of the best shorts I have seen.
This reminds me of a movie that I watched, it has me thinking about how a projection might actually have a blank face, and how a human face has so many nuances to it even when emotions aren’t being displayed. My mind also took a different bend in Considering the narrative. What is the main character really isn’t in a spaceship, and really is having a psychotic moment from an alternate reality. It would be yet another twist in the story plot
I enjoyed that. Thank you

I felt a little impatient at first, because I'm not a fan of the genre, but then I actually got more interested. If he can't go into hypersleep, does that mean he's going to be physically and mentally 44 years older, if he's still alive when the ship reaches its destination? If they're only 44 years away from an inhabitable planet, they must have been in transit for at least a millennium. I'm not sure that's consistent with what we learn in the video. I'm not sure you mean that the potential problem here is that his own sanity might turn on him. That suggests that he needs to be psychotic to survive. I was tickled by the explanation of "AI." So it doesn't mean athletic ineptitude. :-) I watched this with CC turned on. What's with the delay in showing the last word of so many sentences? It reminds me of long German sentences in which the verb comes at the end. Of course, I've already heard the word, so the delay in seeing it is unintentionally, I assume, ... amusing. While it would be nice to know how this turns out, it already works as a short film. It looks like the 2,000 other passengers are going to awaken without their top leaders. Thanks for the video.
