I was always scared to have a fire drill during gym class because I knew it would've been way louder than in the hallways or classroom. Not to mention all the schools had the alarms set to continuous

Same. I was and still am afraid of the alarm. In 3rd grade my teacher let us know that there was a fire drill during gym and I ended up with a sour stomach in the office. We had the EST 757S2-15PS in every room and hallway BUT the classrooms.

that was a problem for me as a kid and ultimately, i realized the noise sensitivity was from migraine headaches. who would have considered that? ironically, years later i ended up working on a rescue squad

I'm reminded of the school I did a baseball mascot gig at this morning; they used to have a Simplex system from the late 90s with vertical 4903 rectangular horn/strobes, but a few years back they replaced it all with a boring Siemens system with Wheelock ZNS horn/strobes and RSG T-bar pulls.

Love that reverb! How it makes the horns make a pop sound when they sound on and off in the temporal pattern! Who agrees?

Gary Beltz I was referring to the horns in the gymnasium. I don't like it when the alarms sound the same. It's sort of like hitting the same key on a piano over and over to me.

Not only they are a tripping hazard but a major fire safty violation doors left open can allow fire and smoke to travel threw the building more quickly and put lives in danger the doors are fire doors suppose to be kept shut at all times that's a fire marshal regulation.

Yup. Not only are they a tripping hazard, but fire doors are supposed to have magnets on the backs. Magnets shut off and release the doors during a fire emergency to reduce the spread of the fire. If the magnet is damaged or no longer functional, it needs to be replaced! Instead of wedges, they oughtta use magnets.

Ashton Lovell Siemens U-MHU-MCS, Simplex 2901-9806 on 2903-9002 light plates, and if im right, a Simplex 4903-9426 possibly replacing a 2901-9806 on a 2903-9002 light plate. Edit: I forgot they were 2903-9002 light plates. 2903-9001 light plates have the horn behind them. Whoops. Hehe.

you all seem to have assumed I did not like the sound; I simply said the reverberation made them sound ominous, not that I did not enjoy this sound.

the fire alarms are speaker strobes. for a technical school I thought there would be horns.

What was the fire panel before since the old horns and truealert are left.

My school had the one similar to one in the gymnasium but ours had an extra something at the end, crazy how many different versions there are

I believe those are old school Simplex horns with lamp, instead of a strobe bulb. All of those looked and sounded like they were in the Gym. They sound even better when set on continuous tone. Back in the day, my middle school had these, all over the halls.

That one before the gym would have my ears bleeding cuz i have sensitive ears. I already have 4903’s (which aren’t as bad as i thought) and true alerts ( i haven’t heard one at my school yet but I have at a church I used to go to).

I like the older horn.

@@AadiPendse that's what my school uses along with SpectrAlert Classics while the other school in my area has those low pitched alarms.

There’s a abandoned Kmart in cookeville,TN I’m not sure what the panel was but the alarms were simplex 2901-9838s on 2903 light plates with projectors for 3 of the light plates and then there was 3 9806 fire alarm horns and simplex t bars I believe the system is still in the building

I saw what I think was a Simplex system with what I believe are 2901-9838s on a 4903-9101, most likely, before becoming a Hobby Lobby. That system is long gone! Now, I dunno what the ceiling-mount signals are! (Where there was a K-mart in Claremont, NH)
