School Fire Drill #4

Ғылым және технология

Disclaimer: This is technically 2 schools part of the same district where I was called to assist in conducting drills consecutive of each other. In the first clip, at the elementary, which had the 4051’s in march time; the system was an old 2001-8032 that was later upgraded to a 4010 classic. For the second half, at the high school, we have a 4100ES upgraded from a 4002 that of which was expanded to cover multiple additional zones.

    The Simplex 4051 is getting increasingly rare, as well as the 4050-80 red light plate. Imagine if the 4050-80 was a red strobe 😳. Red strobes are common in the UK because it’s our fire alarm protocol. White strobes can be found too though.

  • @ZakWolf

    @ZakWolf

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yeah; that happened at the school I went to for kindergarten. Their old Simplex 4208 panel was failing, so they replaced that and the 4010 they had for duct detectors (I think) with a Notifier system, and the old 4051+4050-80 alarms got replaced with boring SpectrAlert Advance horn/strobes on adapter plates. The same thing happened with a few buildings at my college, except one of them used a Fire-Lite instead of Notifier, but still with Advances on the adapter plates.

    @@ZakWolf I go to a school that had a few simplex systems that got replaced with Notifier and Firelite systems. The Fire alarms in the complex dorms at my school used to have a Simplex 4002 with 2903s with 9838s and trim rings. The system was replaced in the early 2010s before I came with a Notifier NFS 3030 and they put Spectralert advances with the trim plates over where the 2903s used to be. As of 2021, the NFS 3030 was replaced with a Firelite ES50X panel but, they kept the Spectralert advances and added a couple L Series strobes in the bathrooms in the Nutrition Center. Another building at my school used to have simplex 2903s with 10” bells but, in the 2000s, they replaced them with Spectralert advances and hooked them up to a Notifier AFP200 which also has wheelock ASs and RSSs.

    Simplex 4051s on a 4010 system? Sounds a lot like the school I went to for kindergarten, although the 4010 was tied into the original Simplex 4208 panel that the 4051+4050-80s were installed with (the 4010 was for basic system controls and added-on duct detectors, while the 4208 was for the existing pull stations and heat sensors.) Though at my school, the 4010 was replacing a 4004 used for the duct detectors, which in turn replaced either a 2001 or 4002 panel tied into the 4208 some time in the 80s.

  • @safetech

    @safetech

    That type of combination with the older relay panels is sometimes seen when you have old AC driven audible visual devices and/or other other AC components in place on the old system.

  • @ZakWolf

    @ZakWolf

    6 жыл бұрын

    That would make sense. For some odd reason despite them using DC horns (the Simplex 4051s), the 4050-80 plates used AC voltage, but it could be attributed to the light bulbs they used. But by this point signal coding was primarily done on the Simplex 4010 panel (when the school was built in 1974 with just the 4208 panel, the horns did Continuous while the lights flashed on and off, but by the time I went there for kindergarten and they had a second panel tied into the 4208 for the added-on duct detectors (it was either a Simplex 2001 or 4002 by this time; a graphic annunciator was installed in the main lobby when this happened) the alarms did 20bpm March Time.

  • @ZakWolf

    @ZakWolf

    4 жыл бұрын

    And guess what? They STILL have the Simplex 4010 panel, despite replacing all the existing alarm signals with SpectrAlert Advance horn/strobes. This was because in early 2015, the old Simplex 4208 panel started failing (sometimes the signal circuits wouldn't work in a certain zone, or the system would randomly go into alarm), so during the February break they gutted the 4208, wired everything into the 4010, replaced the old 4208 battery cabinet with a couple of EST booster power panels, and replaced all alarm signals (they even replaced the Wheelock MT-24-LSMs in the modular with Advances!) But at least my city's school district considers faulty/malfunctioning fire alarm systems a top priority on their agendas!

  • @ZakWolf

    @ZakWolf

    4 жыл бұрын

    @Fire of Cthulhunado 23 Oh yes; they've become pretty scarce in my hometown. My college campus used to have them in the buildings built in 1978 (Simplex 4207 systems). But two of those buildings now instead have Space Age VA4 horn/strobes on a Faraday MPC-7000 system that may soon be on its' way out, and the other three buildings that had them now have SpectrAlert Advances (just like my old school!)

  • @ZakWolf

    @ZakWolf

    2 жыл бұрын

    And last summer, that Faraday MPC-7000 system was removed; each of those two buildings now has a Notifier NFS-320 system with System Sensor L-series horn/strobes (one of them is mounted on an adapter plate where a VA4 was, the rest were newly-installed with backboxes and conduit), FSP-951 smoke detectors and NBG-12LX pulls. But it's justified in that the MPC-7000 was having a bunch of problems, and the rest of the campus had already upgraded to Notifier during the previous decade.

    To be honest I would have been scared if my school had these LOUD simplex horns. My school has system sensor L series speaker strobes that are not even loud. They went last week and they were quiet enough to where I didn’t even notice that they were going off until I looked up at the ceiling and the strobe was flashing which I thought one of my friends was playing a fire alarm sound affect.

    The alarms in the second school appears to not be flashing. Perhaps the camera didn't pick it up because I watched it before and once did I see them flash, except the truealert which can be seen flashing.

    These are flashing. The reason why you can't see the 4903-9101 strobes flashing is because they are NON-ADA 4.75CD strobes not bright. The TrueAlert is bright (It's either 15CD, 75CD or 110CD). This is also a special 4 Wire TrueAlert which means it does not require any sync module.

    Same here, probably because my first elementary school also had Simplex 4051+4050-80 horn/lights. But they were on 20bpm March Time, and the panel was originally an old Simplex 4208.

    Same but some of them sounded like a siemens ummt and some sounded the exact same as the one In the video and also space age av32 which was like a l series's 3rd tone some of them and some of them sounded like a fire alarm from safetech's school fire drill 3 video but they Mostly do code 3 and some do cont and when it's recess time they would do slow march time or as I like to call it fire condition or alert tone.

    Welp, there's a possibility that they aren't rare at the Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center staff dorms, and the buildings next to the Hayden building... (The school buildings, has or had later-looking systems and has or had '9833s, '9806s, especially in and around the school cafeteria, and '9838s in the swimming pool area, except the locker rooms, which has or had a '9833)
