What the title says. Activated with pull station. Full building walk. Silence and reset. System worked like it was supposed to.

    Must be a 1990s Simplex system, judging by the sound! Nowadays a new Simplex system installation would typically be addressable, unless they are just replacing an old hard-wired Simplex panel (like the 4207/8, 2001 or 4002), when in that case a 4005 or 4006 would do the trick nicely while leaving everything else intact (I saw a 2001 panel that was gutted and had a 4006 installed in the cabinet!)

    Electronic piezoelectric horn with ADA compliant strobes have been widely used since 1993. The Wheelock MT is first introduced in 1993 and the AS and NS in 1995. Those first 3 notification appliances popularized the code 3 tone. The 4903 has been around since 1990ish in both speaker and mechanical horn flavors. Simplex stopped making mechanical horns in 1998.

  • @ZakWolf

    @ZakWolf

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@davidperry4013 I know back in 1993 there was also a non-ADA version of the Wheelock MT horn/strobe, and before that there was the Wheelock EH horn and horn/strobe series. In fact, during the late 80s and early 90s Simplex sometimes used Wheelock EH horns; SafeTech has a video of a Simplex 4001 system with those horns on older 4903 light and strobe plates. I also recall Simplex first began making those ADA-compliant rectangular 4903 horn/strobes and speaker/strobes in 1993, maybe 1994, and they still make the speaker/strobe version and one that uses the TrueAlert horn's sounder, largely for replacing failed 4903 alarm signals on systems from the 90s.

    I suppose that this system was installed between 1994 and 1998 because the Simplex 4004 was introduced in the first year mentioned, and the 4903 electronic horn-strobe was released during the latter. I suspect the electromechanical version was discontinued after that, so assuming that's the case, this particular system had to be installed between then.

    It's weird that most of the alarms have a different pitch. Are they different horns or is the voltage not the same for all of the alarms?

  • @exoticcar5482

    @exoticcar5482

    9 жыл бұрын

    They're mechanical horns, not electronic. These older style mechanical horns tend to be a little sensitive and very minor factors can determine their pitch. Newer electronic horns have the same pitch since their tone is generated by a microchip before being blasted through a piezo speaker

  • @GandSAfan

    @GandSAfan

    The pitch on older-style horns can also be determined on how tightly (Or loosely) each one is screwed in a wall, the composition of a wall can also determine how they sound.

I had never noticed that strobe. As for the 2nd question, no this is a dorm adjacent to the other building. They form an "L" shape.

    Do you work for a fire alarm service company? I know it can take days to fully test a fire alarm system throughout a premises. Where I work Ive seen the fire alarm technicians for 3 days in a row when doing the annual testing. And normally one day they silence the alarms and test the pull stations as well as check the sprinklers along with testing the smoke detectors then they even have a time when they sound the alarm to make sure all of the indicators work.

    MrWill1985 We do what we have to do to ensure the safety of our students. The alarm company only inspects annually. We have students in the dorms 9 months out of the year. It's not rocket science to test the system. We needed to make sure it worked.
