🚆 Scenic cab ride on the Red Bull train (Cargo Cab Ride Switzerland | Buchs SG - Basel)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

It looks like a normal freight train for most people, but railwaymen and many trainspotters are able to tell exactly what those trains carry. Some love it, some hate it, but fact is, the beverage is consumed all over the world and that is where this train comes into play. Welcome aboard the "Red Bull" train! Today we pull a lot of the cans through Switzerland and later they will continue their journey to Bremerhaven in northern Germany. The exact distribution is unknown to me, but most of the cans will find their way to shelves in the United States. Every single consumed Red Bull in the US was in this train once, since only cans made in Switzerland are imported to the US.
Enough of the energy drinks, let's talk railways: Our locomotive today is a BR 185 from DB Cargo Switzerland and pulls this train from Buchs SG marshalling yard in eastern Switzerland to Basel-Muttenz marshalling yard in northwestern Switzerland. It takes us from the south of the rhine valley in Buchs alongside Lake Walen and Lake Zurich through the center of Zurich, with a view into Mülligen marshalling yard and a turn into Limmattal marshalling yard (RBL) for a short stop. From there, a right turn takes us onto the Bözberg route and a few hours later, we have reached our destination.
Locomotive: BR 185

What’s going on with the houses, I try to understand the architecture but it just doesn’t makes sense for a third world guy haha if you take in account the perspective from the camera those houses are HUGE, most of them seem to be like having 3 floors or more and the size is like ENORMOUS, is it like just one family live there or they’re condos, like little apartments inside, I’m sorry if this sounds dumb I just can’t understand 😐

BEAUTIFUL ride, especially the first half hour between Buchs SG and Sargans. That's a stretch of Kanton St. Gallen one doesn't see very often. I hope we can see more of it in the future! Question for you: a few minutes into the ride the track diverges and the branch to the left you indicate heads to "Schaan - Vaduz" in Liechtenstein. How much railway is there through Liechtenstein, and is there any passenger rail service to the country from Switzerland (at least to Vaduz, the capital)? For some strange reason I was under the impression that little Liechtenstein was without railways. As always, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR WHAT YOU DO!

Did you load in Widnau at Rexam? Does Rauch Fruchtsafte fill the cans there or in Bludenz?

This all came from Rauch Widnau and is then shunted in two parts to make a complete train. That is not part of my operation, I take the train from Buchs, as you can see in the video.

@@RailwayEmotions Thanks very much for the clarification. On topo map.geo.admin.ch, I see the spur to the Rexam facility (owned now by Ball Corp.), from Widnau station. I find it interesting that Austrian and American companies find Switzerland such a great place to locate their facilities. I think the Swiss railways have a big part in that decision, not to mention stable rules and regulations. Thanks as always for your videos.

Saw this almost as soon as you posted, so much to take in, so took a while to respond. Amused to see your comment elsewhere about the origin of the train - is the load brought in small portions by rail from Widnau or are all the pallets trucked in and loaded in Buchs? Shame about the US policy, Rauch appears to have rail access to its main plant in Ludesch /Nüziders. When was the loop at Sargans built? I travelled from Innsbruck in the early '70s and, at that time, when heading for Zürich, the train would go straight through and reverse South of the station before stopping in a platform - when I repeated this route in 1990, the loop was in place. Finally, did you find it frustrating that you were held in RBL for however long it was and yet you were stopped again in Killwangen platform? Would it have hurt the regulator to keep you in RBL a minute or two longer, so you could keep rolling? Thanks for sharing so many unique experiences \m/

The train is shunted in two parts directly from the factory, no trucks involved. The loop was built in the early 80s and is frequently used by night trains, Railjets, EuroCitys and freight trains like this one. Quite often, freight trains run ahead of schedule, so they're already through some neuralgic points. But this can cause an extra stop or two that were not planned.Stopping in cargo operations is just normal and not frustrating. ;-)

@@RailwayEmotions yeah I guess, given the abundance of staging points west of the Kohlendreieck, it'd be a waste not to use at least one 😉 - thanks again \m/
