🚆 4K Brand new tilting double decker train cab ride (Switzerland | IR70 Lucerne - Zurich)

Welcome aboard the new SBB flagship for national Intercity and Interregio traffic, the Bombardier Twindexx Swiss Express! We are in Lucerne in central Switzerland on the direct Interregio service to Zurich. With only one stop in between, it is a quick ride between the two major cities with beautiful landscape and great sights in between. It is the first cab ride with this relatively new train on this channel and it won't be the last!
The Twindexx, referred to as FVD or FV-Dosto, has sparked some controversy and received a lot of negative press. I won't comment wether the press was right or wrong, however it has made this train famous in Switzerland. The FVD is meant to replace the Re 460 hauled long distance services and will allow a tighter timetable. It is achieved by better acceleration and an innovative system called "Wankkompensation", which basically is a tilting system for double deckers. Naturally, it can't tilt as far as a single-decker does, but does still significantly reduce lateral forces onto passengers and train crew, which should allow it to take curves slightly faster than conventional double deckers. As of now (July 2022), driving faster in curves is no longer intended to be pursued. However, the mechanism is in place and works. If you watch carefully, you can clearly see the train's body tilting into curves. Sit back and enjoy the ride!

    The conductor's announcements as we approached Zurich Hbf were outstanding, even by Swiss standards. He then said goodbye using Swiss Dialect! I have visited Switzerland many times, and this is the first time I have heard Swiss dialect used in a train announcement!

    They arent actually. SBB Actually published a page about the issues with the RAB(D)e 502 and one of it is the Tilting mechanism / Wank Kompensation wich make the train shake violently wich is seen in this video by the vibrations. its a huge failure of SBB to have bought these trains. but they do have some nice views and a nice looking cab, ive been in one multiple times.

    The DML makes more sense for S-Bahn trains passing through Zürich HB. If Zürich HB is the final stop, the platforms up top are a terminus station. Also, all of the international trains are on the top floor platforms, this is a train which serves many international connections.

    @@wildcraftone my mistake, I was confusing this service with IR75 to Konstanz - absolutely right, terminating service has no business taking up capacity on through lines, thanks for the correction. Edit - seems this service transforms into a Zürich - St Gallen service, sometimes extended to Chur - as such, DML might make sense - I'm assuming the separation of the service numbers and the effective termination upstairs are done to allow extra units to come from the sidings in Zürich to cover any delays \m/

    Extra thought: it's useful to have an IR service turning in the main train hall so there's always a train to the airport visible to tourists - they don't have to go looking, it separates the relative strangers from the regulars and it also helps keep short distance customers from bothering long distance \m/

    Hallo Railway Emotions - eine weitere tolle Fahrt zurück nach Zürich (am Nachmittag fuhr ich nach Luzern 🙂) - der neue Zug gefällt mir optisch sehr gut, auch der Komfort ist Spitze. Ich glaube auch, dass die technischen Gegebenheiten für Euch Lok-Führer super sind. Als Passagier fällt der Zug bei mir allerdings durch. Ich bin sicher schon 30 Mal mit einem FVD unterwegs gewesen - zwischen Zürich und St.Gallen, zwischen Zürich und Lausanne, zwischen Zürich und Luzern usw. - aber kein Zug rottelt wie dieser, wenn man im oberen Stock fährt (ich fahre meistens 1. Klasse). Einmal hat der Kaffee übergeschwappt, ein andermal konnte ich das Feierabendbier gerade noch rechtzeitig festhalten, sonst.... Hoffentlich bekommen die SBB und die Lieferanten die Probleme in den Griff. Das ändert aber nichts daran, dass das Video toll ist - herzlichen Dank. Liebe Grüsse Remo

    @@TheFirewing1980 Schlimmer denn der Cisalpino/Pendolino geht es fast nicht. dieser zug hatt bis jetzt noch keinem unfall. und ein ding was der Cisalpino kann sagen ist das sie Comfortabel war. nicht sölche steinsitze wie im RAB(D)e 502.

    Etwas verwirrenderweise wird hier der Twinndex als Neigezug bezeichnet, dabei ist die Wako eine Wank Kompensation d.h das Wanken des Wagenkasten wird (oder sollte) durch Stellglieder kompensiert (unterbunden) werden. Bei einem Neigezug wird der Wagenkasten aktiv zur Kurveninnenseite geneigt (wie bei einem Zweirad)...

    @@TheFirewing1980 Interessanterweise sind die ursprünglichen Hersteller Fiat (Pendolino) wie Bombardier (Twinndex) jetzt bei Alstom integriert - also beide vom gleichen Hersteller😂

    I have had a few journeys on Class 502 sets on my Interrail journeys in Switzerland and I find them overall pretty poor. Build quality is not very good and also the ride is not too comfortable with many rattles added to the overall pictures. For a new unit I much prefer the Class 501 which is really good but the IC2000 loco hauled double deck trains as found on many routes within Switzerland are much better, they just need some power points fitting to certain coaches.

    Danke für diese Fahrt mit dem Bombi! Die Geräuschkulisse hat mich ein wenig verwirrt: Einmal die Ansage "Zugbeeinflussung", die man sonst nur in Deutschland hört und dann habe ich den Eindruck, dass der Ton nicht synchron ist (z.B. beim Halt in Zug oder bei der Schutzstrecke im Zimmerbergtunnel).

    I personally prefer the much cleaner, unobstructed look that the videos have now and speeds may vary from train to train on the exact same route. If you want to know the speed of a certain section, just take 360 and divide it by the time it takes to pass 100 meters. 100m is the distance between 3 catenary masts. If it took 4 seconds for them to pass, the answer is 90km/h. Or just ask. ;-) It's a thing of preference and unfortunately, I can't make everyone happy. If I were to add the speed from now on, some of you may be happy, while others would miss the clean look.

    Ich bin länger nicht mehr mit dir mitgefahren. Schön, die Strecke Luzern-Zürich wiederzusehen - und noch dazu in einem spektakulären neuen Zug. Besonders schön der Showdown: der Blick in die Haupthalle vom Zürcher Hauptbahnhof. Vielen Dank für das Video! Nachtrag: den Bahnhof von Sihlbrugg fand ich auch aus Autofahrersicht etwas unheimlich: 4 Häuser und 6 Gleise. Wozu war der gut? Vor 12 Jahren war der aber in meiner Erinnerung noch aktiv, oder?

    Vermutlich ist genau die spärliche Besiedelung von Sihlbrugg der Grund, weswegen man vor vielen Jahren den Bahnhof geschlossen hat.

    In UK an audible whistle has to be given on approach to trackside maintenance staff.This does not seem to be the case in Switzerland. How are they safely warned of the approach of trains, particularly the high speed ones which give very little time to get to a place of safety ?

    As we passed through the second Root station we passed a freight in a loop siding on the left, Would/could this be a daily pick up/put down service for all the rail customers on this section of the route? It seemed out of place on a line with no freight yard and I would assume heading for a Zurich yard for sorting? Does the power line geometry have to be updated for the double deck tilt trains due to the excess sideways movement of the collector over that of a non-tilt set?

    It is just a siding where the cars get collected and dropped of by a passing local freight train, yes. Tilting trains always have the pantograph tilting in the other direction, the power lines are not modified for them.

    Technically 200 km/h, not sure about VMAX for the IR70 route. I take this daily from Luzern to Zug :) my only complaint is the Bombardier trains are not as smooth as the Stadler trains.

    Der IC2 mit 147 war ähnlich unzuverlässig und Bombardier hat sich viele Fauxpäse geleistet, mal ist tagelang kein Zug mehr gefahren weil das Softwareupdate einen sicherheitsrelevanten Fehler, mal war jede Wende eine Katastrophe, mal wollte der Zug im Stehen ständig die Sifa Taste gedrückt haben.

    Bei der ankunft in zürich war die durchsage auch auf französisch. Schweizer die italienisch sprechen (wie mich) gibt es relativ wenige und ja, wir lernen Deutsch in der Schulen (mindestens 3 Jahre).

    Unfortunately the Tilt System is now permanently out of order, because the Problems could t be fixed. That happens if you chose the cheapest offer. Maybe the company has lernt something from it.

    It's a pretty bad train. Probably the worst train on the Swiss network. It shakes violently when going over switch points and even sometimes while on regular tracks. Some speed gains will not be realized because the train can't go as fast as advertised/planned because passengers cannot be subjected to the severe lateral shocks. All in all its a shiny and good looking grave for millions of francs from railway customers and tax payers.

    Bei der Anzeigetafel im HB Zürich, sieht man, dass der Zug nur bis St.Gallen fährt, so wie man es bei der Durchsage hört. Es fährt nicht jeder Zug von Luzern über St. Gallen direkt nach Chur

    Ich denke es hat mit der fahrgastlenkung zu tun in Luzern wird nur die Fahrt bis Flughafen angezeigt weil es den direkten Voralpen express gibt und in ZH nur St. Gallen weil Reisende nach chur über ziegelbrücke schneller sind der Zug fährt in den meisten Fällen sehr wohl Luzern chur

    @@ursmorach5599 Normally trains arriving in Zurich as IR70 continue as IR 13 to Chur VIA ST GALLEN.

    Salut super vidéo mais je veux pas être méchant en vers toi mes les tiwwx c'est de la merde comparer aux aux omeno et TER 2NG de la SNCF sa tombe souvent en panne du a des pannes informatique et côté voyageur siège inconfortable
