🚆 4K Cab ride from Schaffhausen over the Rhine Falls to Zürich (Switzerland | S24 Thayngen - Zürich)
Welcome aboard the S24 service! Our trip starts in Thayngen, which is the northernmost station in Switzerland, but operated by DB. Unlike other lines in the region of Schaffhausen, the S24 never touches German territory, but operates on the german DB network with their own regulations and German signalling up until Schaffhausen. This also requires the driver to hold a permit for the German railways, which makes the S24 unique in the Zurich S-Bahn system. It is also one of the very few S-Bahn Zurich lines that serve the main hall in Zurich, but the only one that continues further from there. Again we will be on top of the legendary Rhine Falls, one of the biggest waterfalls in Europe, followed by a ride under the famous Schloss (castle) Laufen am Rheinfall.

Ist schon interressant, das mit dem Streckenabschnitt zwischen Thayngen u. Schaffhausen. Da sind zwar deutsche Signale (KS), deutsche Oberleitungsmasten und sogar rechtsverkehr, aber wir befinden uns in der Schweiz u. nicht in Deutschland!!! Die Stromspannung ist nach meinem Wissenstands aber der, der in der Schweiz üblich gebraucht wird.

@@Ms_1977 Stromspannung ist die gleiche wie in Deutschland: 15Kv 16,7Hz nur das Lichtraumprofil ist anders, deswegen haben die Schweizer bei den Stromabnehmern auch kleinere Wippen!!!!

Im Wechselbetrieb fährt man in der Schweiz auch öfters mal rechts. Z.B. zwischen Effretikon und Dietlikon.

My dream is to spend the rest of my life just travelling all over Europe / the World by train. I would literally sleep and eat on the train with an occasional stop over at random. Every day would bring new fellow passengers to converse with while the World glides past the window..

How does it come that the train switches between running on the left side track and on the right side track a few times? I would have expected just one to happen between the German regulated and Swiss regulated parts.

We have always been on the right track on German infrastructure and on the left track on the Swiss part. Occupying the other track inside a station is not considered driving on the other side. Plus, at least in Switzerland, we are free to use either track on most lines.

Startet die Linie tatsächlich in Thayngen? Vor 12 Jahren bin ich oft in Singen nach Zürich eingestiegen und musste in Zürich nach Zug umsteigen.

Ja, bis auf den Teil von Zürich nach Zug ist hier der gesamte Linienverlauf zu sehen. Auch heute noch würde man von Singen aus in Zürich umsteigen, weil es die schnellste Verbindung nach Zug ist.

Yes, DB allows you to complain about everything and anything, like 2 minutes delays. In SBB you don't get to complain because there is no delays.

Ich dachte immer S-Bahnen halten an jeder Station auf ihrem Laufweg und wundere mich gerade darüber, dass die Bahn am Haltepunkt Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall durchgefahren ist und nicht gehalten hat. Wenn nicht mal die S-Bahn da hält, welche Züge bedienen diesen Haltepunkt dann?

at one point the train used the right track instead of the usual left track. Why?

We are free to use any track on most of the routes. Left is the standard, but it doesn't matter really. Depending on other traffic, the time of day etc. we simply use the right track.
