★ 4K 🇨🇭St. Margrethen - Buchs - Sargans cab ride Switzerland [01.2023] Führerstandsmitfahrt Rheintal

We've been to St Margrethen before and also passed through Sargans. Today we're taking a line connecting the two, along the border Switzerland shares with Austria and Lichtenstein, which is defined by the river Rhein. In Switzerland it is known as the Rheintalbahn (Rhein valley railway), not be be confused with the Rheintalbahn in Germany (which will also be covered on this channel).
Apart from the section between Heerbrugg and Oberriet, the land we see to the far left until we reach Rüthi belongs to Austria, and from just past Rüthi to Sargans it belongs to Liechtenstein. In a future video, we will travel from Buchs through Liechtenstein and on to Feldkirch in Austria.
The line is currently closed (February - October 2023) due to construction of a second track in certain sections to allow for an increased frequency of passenger services. Furthermore, a few stops that were closed over the years are to be renewed and reactivated, as labelled throughout the video. This is one of the reasons we love documenting railways in this way - when everything has been changed and looks different, we still have something to look back on.

This was a great ride. The train was slow enough where you could see things clearly. This was what I would call a workman's ride. A lot of time going through "business districts" as we called them in the small town where I grew up. It was great. Some great mountains and water. Thanks for showing me a part of the world that I will never see in real life.

It looks like from some of the early bridges under the tracks that a double track had been intended. Also the few over bridges have double track clearance, Problem is the track is built on the flood plain of the Rhine river, which has all sorts of issues for drainage and track support stability. Looks good in the light snow.

Hi. Yes, I always show the speeds according to what the train is allowed, in this case a single locomotive, which can travel 140 km/h but didn't in order to save power due to the predetermined crossings with other trains. As mentioned in the video, low speed was maintained in response to automated speed suggestions from the dispatchers.

Ottimo video, come tutti quelli a firma "Paolo".
