SCCA Trans Am at Road America, 1987.

PLN and Pruitt blowed up real good! Les leads it for awhile. Roush shoves Deborah in the non-turbo car, she actually does pretty good with it. Hoerr ends up with 'silly wind resistance' after a Porsche dies in front of him in Five. And Jenkins/Nuber still talk about silhouettes like they're modified street cars. Wish this one had been on the Cavalcade instead of ESPN, but ya gotta take what you can get. Hey, at least it was televised. Beggars can't be choosers!

Ah yes back when Trans Am was actually a major series. A lot of young people don’t realize that Trans Am back in these days was just as big if not bigger than IMSA was

I'd watch the ESPN Speedworld when I got home from work. Loved it. Jenkins and Nuber were like friends. Hot 🍵 tea and cake. I was set. Opening to the show has that flipping 3 car Lyn St James crash at a west coast track. 👍

Even though in1987 racing was still good for the most part, Trans Am racing in 1987 seems so much different than the TA races of the late 60's-70's.

That Mercury XR4ti driven by Pete Halsmer must have been in the second lead spot given the coverage compared to that yellow car off the front. Heavy sarcasm intended. Watching these races as a young wannabe, I didn't recognize the bias. Go where the money is.

Halsmer was an IndyCar driver and one of the most recognizable names at the time. Pruitt and Lindley on the other hand. Lindley was good in this series and Pruitt eventually become a star in sports cars and even ran IndyCar himself, but not as good as Halsmer was considered at the time.

Running in that serie at that point was quite absurd. They limited on output the turbos cars like the ford, porsche and nissan to favor totally obsolete v6 engine. And that guy in the v6 jumped the start and everything was fine. Later everybody went to imsa and cars averaged 1000 hp like it should have be since day one.

Yeah they took the V6 out of the beretta after about 3 races & went to the V8 which is in the #77 car till this day. I have it... V8 reliable & v6 not so much...

Question about 80s Speedworld videos, what was that dial tone before they would go to commercial?
