Thanks BBC My summary while listening Some languages are endangered. We often hear about animals at risk of extinction but a recent study by the Australian National University found that out of the world's seven thousand existing languages, half are under threat. But what can be done to save languages from dying out? According to Ghil'ad Zuckerman, a linguistic professor, he had a dictionary written by a German Lutheran Christian missionary in 1844. His name was Clamor Wilhelm Schumann and he wrote the dictionary with up to 3500 words because he wanted to Christianize "heathens" so it's topsy-turvy righting the wrong of the past by using a tool written for one goal in order to achieve the diametrically opposite goal.

What do these languages have in common? Recognize: I don't recognize any of them. endangered: endangered animals, at risk of extinction. be under threat: sb or sth is under threat from globalization/higher prices/invasive species die out: what can be done to save languages from dying out? what could happen if more and more languages died out? we have to prevent rare species from dying out. The sad truth is that it was no accident that these languages died out, given the treatment of Aboriginal people. The sad truth is that it was no accident that the public lost trust in the government. The sad truth is that it was no accident that teachers were desperate to leave, given the treatment of educators from parents, and politics. Racism: Living abroad as a Chinese taught me what racism felt like. Have you ever experienced racism? Poverty: people are living in poverty. Injustice: correct a historical injustice from the past complain of, admit, remember, protest against the injustices heathen: ironically: Ironically, her boyfriend is a racist. what is ironic is that he did less exercise than me. destruction: it caused the destruction of culture and languages. Speaking your own language is about more than communication, it means knowing your roots and feeling good about yourself. In quotation marks. Right the wrongs of the past.
