Lyrics:
Set me free
Leave me be
I don't wanna fall another moment into your gravity
Here I am and I stand so tall, just the way I'm supposed to be
But you're on to me and all over me

Sara Bareilles performed at my college back in 2008. I remember being extremely excited, none of my friends were fans so I went with my sister, & we ended up with an extra ticket... We invited an exchange student, she had never heard of Sara but was looking forward to good music. We enjoyed the concert together. At the end, I remember being disappointed that she didn't perform Gravity, it was my favorite song. Anyway, the crowd was thinning out and everyone was leaving. I was going with the exchange student for some drinks when we hear the piano. I turned around so fast and ran to the stage, holding the exchange students hand. Sara played Gravity and OmG she sounded like an angel. The exchange student was brought to tears... To end my story, me and the exchange student became very fast friends. After the semester we wrote letters and video chatted every day. We were best of friends. told eachother everything. Her sister messaged me and told me she had fallen ill. my best friend passed away a few weeks later. that was 5 years ago. Tonight was the first time I could listen to Gravity and not cry. I smiled the whole time. Thanks so much Sara for the beautiful music and for introducing me to the best person I have ever known. ♡♡♡

I’m a male and a truck driver with a conundrum. I’m a lifelong lover of music with an interest in just about every genre but it’s not uncommon for me to listen to music with heavier leanings. However, despite the fact that my friends make fun of me for liking Sara bareilles I’m an unapologetic fan and I always find myself coming back to this song. More often than not when she hits that big note it brings me to actual tears. To me Sara is a reminder that life is not about fitting into boxes that you or other people think should define you. Life is about appreciating beauty and I will forever be grateful for the emotion that she puts into her art

Something always brings me back to you It never takes too long No matter what I say or do I'll still feel you here 'till the moment I'm gone You hold me without touch You keep me without chains I never wanted anything so much than to drown in your love And not feel your reign Set me free, leave me be I don't want to fall another moment into your gravity Here I am, and I stand So tall, just the way I'm supposed to be But you're on to me and all over me Oh, you loved me 'cause I'm fragile When I thought that I was strong But you touch me for a little while And all my fragile strength is gone Set me free, leave me be I don't want to fall another moment into your gravity Here I am, and I stand So tall, just the way I'm supposed to be But you're on to me and all over me I live here on my knees as I try to make you see That you're everything I think I need here on the ground But you're neither friend nor foe though I can't seem to let you go The one thing that I still know is that you're keeping me down You're keeping me down, eh ooh You're on to me, on to me, and all over Something always brings me back to you It never takes too long

I think this song makes us so sad because it reminds us what it is like to long for someone who doesn't really love us back. There's some sort of connection there, but it isn't what you want, and you can see it slipping away. You know you should leave, and that heart break is inevitable, but the thought of being without them is too painful.

I was watching an episode of Community tonight and this song came on. I had never heard it before but it was so beautiful I had to look it up. And that’s how I’ve ended up here. I’ve watched it three times in a row. I’ve cried through most of it. Maybe it’s because I just had prostate cancer surgery and I’ve got a while to fully recover. Maybe it’s because just before my surgery, my wife became very sick and I’m not sure where it’s going to take us. It is probably because right now everything in my life seems like it’s upside down. But I still love the song. I love my wife, our family and friends as well. And I know the tears help heal everything.

I'm here in March 2022. I love this song and Sara's vocals are just so far beyond perfection. Her voice was made to sing this... I especially love the "So You Think You Can Dance" choreography that used this song. Mia Michaels choreographed it and the dancers were Kayla and Kupono. It was seadon #5 of the show (in the US) and I believe it aired in 2009. If you love this song and you love dance you HAVE TO check it out. Many polls have placed that performance at #1 of all time out of 15 seasons. Mia Michaels choreographed the dance from the perspective of addiction. With Kayla portraying an addict and Kupono embodying the concept of addiction, as a living entity. It's incredible. You must check it out!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

This song hits me at the deepest core of my soul because I lost my true love, who died in a car accident. He loved me and then some. If you have ever been loved by someone where you feel so at home, so happy, so free, where you feel more then you really are, that's true love. This song always brings me back to that sweet place-- I will always have in my heart and soul for him. To truly be loved is the greatest gift of all. Much love goes out to all those who have experienced that deep love because some never get to understand what that really feels like. My heart goes out to all you... Never stop loving or remembering true love.. ❤️ ❤️ I'm sending you much peace, joy and happiness. Never stop loving someone, or allowing them to love you. . ❤️ 😊

It’s so beautifully written, and so vulnerable, it moves me to tears…still. I thought maybe the overplaying would wear off with time, but I can still listen to this song every day and not tire of it. Just to feel deep within is a gift & everything else follows!! And how can anyone not feel from this song the emotion, the vulnerability singing from your heart & soul... It's beautiful & a blessing to have, that most artists have....

I dedicate this to my wife Ruby. We were together 39 yrs. this past December she was taken to Grossemont hospital. Ruby already suffered from lung issues that would put a man down. But sadly she was in where covid patients were. Ruby left this life on Dec 18th our wedding anniversary...... Ruby was my life my love my all. A part of me is broken and will never be the same. I miss you so very much my love. I know you’re in heaven watching over us all….. ps I wake up in mid conversation with you out loud and I look around as if you’re there somewhere in the house. Then I realized it was a dream or was it ? Love spans anything time and space and our love and relationship was people were jealous of( how close and open and dedicated to each other) hard to move on and sometimes I don’t. PS the last big thing we did together before she went to the hospital was see Sara Barellis live at the San Diego state amphitheater no lie we sat ( handicapped) 7 rows back . It was magical that was September and you all know the rest

This song literally woke me up to the emotional abuse in my marriage. Thankfully, we figured out that he had borderline personality and he was able to work on it. But I will be forever be grateful to Sara Bareilles for getting me through a really rough time.

To me this song is about an addiction rather than a breakup. The drug/action becomes your friend and provides you comfort. "I've never wanted anything so much than to drown in your love and not feel your rain" speaks volumes to me on wanting the peaceful, bliss state that the addiction gives you, without having the negatives that you undeniably know it brings to your life. Once touched by this addiction you realize you're powerless to it - "you touched me for a little while, all my fragile strength is gone". Peace and love to everyone - you control your mind, you control your future, you control your own happiness. Be strong.

Wow i am so glad that i am not alone on that. i struggle with addiction- a couple of them. I feel like such a failure. and I keep coming back to them because for some reason they fill a void in my life.. I have not figured out what that is.. I think of that every time i hear this song as well. FIGHT AGAINST THEM. For me God controls my life but that still does not mean that I am perfect. I am a sinner, I fail. Everybody does. I hope you find peace and recovery...yes sir,, BE STRONG

Its very interesting... having been in a trauma/addiction rehab, the most down to earth 'real' people I could relate to were Heroin addict trying to recover. Most people don't understand what replacing some higher power with addiction means. My belief in God seems to have been cauterized out of me though like an addiction there is still that subtle or NOT call.

I'm with an addict, and this song hits so hard. Watched him wither away and turn into someone i do not recognise. I saw it with my own two eyes. He's very much here, yet just a memory. Hope you're doing better now, I have a lot of respect for anybody who wrestles with that demon and makes it out alive. I hope with all my heart my man gets there too one day. We're both so tired in different ways. I feel so alone watching his life waste away instead of living my own.

That this song, this performance evoked such beautiful, sad, yet loving responses from people, that it struck a nerve with so many, says a lot about Sara's ability to wonderfully interpret a song. The setting for this video is so great. I love all the activity surrounding her as she walks, and never breaks for a second.

MrKouaVang Yeah she is underrated popularity wise and in the sense of the type of music people prefer to listen to. But she does get recognition. Like mysticsmb said, if she were to be a top charter, I don't think she would be the same. There would be a lot of media attention and pressure to reach out to what the people "want" to hear. That's why the really popular artists start behaving weird. It's not that they want to, it's that they are told to.

I like A&S's version. But sorry, Sara Bareilles just made me cry 10 times more than they did. Not saying they weren't good. But I heard Sara before when she first came out with the song, it didn't mean much to me at that time. But now, after hearing it, her angelic voice and just wow, the piano and everything. The lyrics. So captivating! Thank you for this song. We need more meaningful songs, and I know they are out there.
